    Cool idea. I've seen people use ascenders before in DdRT, and the funny thing is the way the 2:1 works against them by doubling the number of steps. Here by locking the limb up top, you change it back to 1:1, basically SRT. One problem I can see here is the way you could get stuck half way up, if for example your foot ascender falls off or breaks. If the prussik freezes, you'll need to relieve that tension before the prussik can release and allow you to rappel down. So skill with footlocking might come in handy one day, after all.

    Only had one issue with the Jet Step. The offset on the back side where the rope fair lead (the silver hook) is bradded to the frame was putting painful pressure on my ankle. I am wearing leather boots with a liner. I tried adjusting the Jet Step to locate in front of my ankle but it keeps moving back to my ankle. I solved the issue by putting a piece of the Walmart blue camping foam pad BEHIND the top adjustment strap. No more pain. The foam pad measures 2 3/8 inch wide X 3 1/2 inch tall. Or 60.325mm X 88.9mm. By putting the foam pad BEHIND the top adjustment strap and cinching the strap down tight the foam will stay in place.

    From here, I can go anywhere on the 🌳. But now, I'm going to go down. Quit while u r ahead my friend. Glad that the Jetstep doesn't do rope damage. There r so many gadgets out there that it's confusing which holds up over the long haul. Thanks for your time & effort. 😊 Tell Noah he's doing a great job editing.

    I have one and I really like it. But I'm a little intimidated still like you it's still pretty new to me period but of course I climb a little differently than you. I normally use a hand Ascender with it, on a sling step. It works really well it's almost like walking up the tree. I really like your videos keep up the good work Buddy.

    The higher you can set your tie in, the more SRS makes sense. You may advance to the point of using SRS for most climbs, and ditch body thrusting altogether. The Michoacan is a great hitch for that setup. I find it functional without the need for a rope wrench, though a dedicated SRS device does perform better.

    Kinda a newer climber, can I MRS with a hitch climber setup with a installed friction saver and just footlock? I am curious it works but I’m scared of stretching out my rope (1/2”). Thanks for all the content Bino!

  • @BinoH

    It sound like a modified foot lock where you have your regular climbing setup and you foot lock the running end. That's okay to do. You don't need to worry about stretching your rope as long as it's a rated climbing rope.

    Hey Bino, nice video I had a question, how would you advance a tree in a SRT method with a Basal anchor ? I’m new to srt. Thanks in advance

  • @BinoH

    @BinoH

    You would do it in the same way you redirct making sure you have enough rope. If you are advcaning higher than you can reach, you thow your line over the avancing tie in. Make sure you are connected with your lanyard disconnect your climbing system and reconnect to the line comming down from your advance tie in.

    I used to climb DRT by just chucking my rope from crotch to crotch but now I have use a throw line and my jet step to ascend and it’s the best thing seconds to rope walking and is also easier on the body

    The Jet Step performs great for a foot ascender, but it is my last choice. The hook has been an issue in the tree and on the ground. It even ripped a hole in one of my chainsaw pants. The cam design and ambidextrous use is great. I just wish they would use a latch instead of a hook. My preference is the ISC Strider, or the CT Quick Step.

  • @BinoH

    Good to hear about the performance of it. I haven't had them hook my pant but I can see how that would be a drag having the hook rip your pants. The Stider and Quick Step are nice options. Might be nice if they had two option latch or a hook. Thanks for sharing!

  • @TimberTrainer

    @@BinoH One big advantage of the hook is you don't have to explain much to beginners. A lot of first timers have trouble with latch mechanisms, but the hook is self explanatory.

    Is there any reason other than for the sake of demonstrating a basic quickie-less procedure that you’re not using a quickie here? Just got mine and used it for the first time and had a blast but seeing your end go through your butterfly gave a me a little bit of a shock

  • @BinoH

    @BinoH

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes a Quickie in a spliced eye or butterfly with a short tail with a Quickie. I was focusing on using the Jet Step on regular rope and entering a tree for climbers who have not used a stationary system. To add two components the Jet step and a Chest harness/ Leash or Landyard to pull your hitch up. It may help them to see the beauty in the SRS system.

  • @bryapatch9846
    @bryapatch98463 жыл бұрын

    Wouldn't it be easier to just use a running bowline, then you wouldn't need to take the hitch climber off the rope when you got up there, you'd just need to put your fishermen knot in the end of your line and be ready to go DRT/MRS.

  • @BinoH

    @BinoH

    3 жыл бұрын

    True but I wouldn't want to show a bowline on a climbing application because there has been times when the bowline has come undone. Might be better to use a butterfly with a short tail or a quickie in a spliced eye.

  • @bryapatch9846

    @bryapatch9846

    Fair enough. I use a bowline with Yosemite tie-off every day as a full time climber. But like you say a quickie or alpine would also work.
