Really dig this! Appreciate the retrospective of how we got here, and tips to collect and enjoy ~responsibly~ While I don’t feel like I spent terribly above my means last year, fomo definitely hit the pockets more than it should have. The goblin definitely needs to go on a more strict and tracked diet this year!

I definitely am with you on taming your collecting needs. I had to sell some of my gem cards and older Pokemon cards in 2023 to pay bills but I have my own goals collecting wise now for Digimon and Pokemon.

great advice as usual. I recently got into Digimon TCG & I'm enjoying it so far. The art, gameplay, and collection part everything is great but it is easy to get carried away & buy too many boxes without realising how much you actually spend. So, indeed, we have to keep the goblin in check.

I like your passion towards koki and his artworks and it´s nice to hear your missing only a few cards. I got a 2nd copy of the Hydramon alt art and the BlackWarGreymon X alt art that both would fit in your collection from my christmas gift. I like the artworks of Naochika Morishita a lot and hope to hit the BanchoLeomon alt art in EX-05 that he drew and when i got the Magnamon X alt art from BT-09 i also started to become a fan of As´Marias artworks.

Thank you for your tips ! I was more of a vpet collector but I've decided to start a tcg collection too, and I do agree that planning ahead will help me save money (and space 😮). I want to collect cards with references to the digimon world games , x antibody mons and maybe Royal Knights too (as I really like Alphamon and Magnamon). BT-11 is good for Digimon World Games, BT-09 for X-Antibody and BT-13 for the Royal Knights, just as a little help if you don´t know where to start.

Thanks for the wise words, this is why I make sure that I take care. Of financial responsibilities beforehand so I don't mess anything up. Responsibilities before frivolities I always say. As for the goblin, you may have one but I have a ogre. But I still manage to beat him.

I've just recently got into Pokemon TCG collecting, and it is so hard to know what I want to collect, because the goblin what's it ALL :)), and also because there's so many sets out there. This is so important! I found myself lost at the end of 2023 looking back at how much I actually spend on cardboard for the instant gratification of owning shiny cards. I used to - at least in Digimon - do mastersets (And when I mean masterset, I mean every single variant so yeah...). So for this year I took a HUGE step back. I'll only collect my dear Lopmons, Cherubimons and Angewomons. So I kind of applied the 3 rule without knowing, lol! I dropped One Piece (Was lucky to pull my favorites that were also chase cards, so no crazy amount spent there) and also dropped the Digimon masterset thing. No more ghost or regional illustration rare chase, I've got the ones i wanted so bad 2 years back so I told myself that that's enough. You are right, the only person that cares if I have a card is me, so I decided not to care anymore. Not a lot of people talk about this, but this is a serious addiction that can very well ruin lives if not handled properly. The important thing is that I get really happy looking through my binders and anything beyond that will be handled with a lot of thought going forward. Thank you for this video! ;)

Great advice! I'm just starting again continuing my 1999 collection, then focusing on garurumon and greymon!....for now! I ordered the vaultx binder thanks for the double sleeve advice. Looking forward to your 2024 videos!

I can relate. I got into the hobby again recently. Bought the entirety of the new 151 set, and got borderline addicted. Really have to put effort into avoiding spending any more 😂

I am a Pokémon player, but I've tried my hand at collecting, and I've done so with a more serious collection and two more casual and broad collections: - The more serious one is I'm trying to collect every single bird Pokémon that comes out in the Scarlet & Violet block (except League promos and Asia-exclusive cards) just because I love birds, which has also brought me into a fair bit of trouble, not in finding them but with other players in my area and my girlfriend having "heated" discussions on what constitutes as a bird (does Porygon/evos count as a bird? I say no, others say yes, and more examples). - The more broad and casual ones is just trying to get all cards of my two favorite Pokémon that aren't birds that I find while trading with friends and people in my local community, without trying too hard for anything, and those Pokémon are Lucario (and Riolu) and Luxray (and Shinx/Luxio). I have to say it's a lot of fun, but you do have to be careful to not feed the goblin, as you say 😂

I cant lie that the whole "gambling" with opening the boosters can be addicting , i decided to focus more on doing decks and ordering cards rather than rely on boosters to get it once i saw how much i had spent... Its fun with people and its fun to trade but remember that we cant survive on card board (yet)

"Who am I kidding [we] can't afford kids," but we CAN afford $XX on singles every once in a while. I keep an ever-growing singles list, but generally buy singles that are a minimum of 1 year old. Keeping a strict singles budget means I can never get everything I want, and continually chip away at the list over time and prevents burnout. ARs have been great for me because they are relatively cheap. I just enjoy looking at a full page of ARs in my binder. For SAR and SR, I've become more picky to keep within my budget.

My goal for 2024 is to make more money so i can buy more cards 😂 This is a very important video, though, and focusing your collection goals can make meeting them much more satisfying. I found it really interesting that you keep "open" collection goals, ie as more sets and cards are released you will keep adding to those collections but they will never be "finished". For myself i like to complete things so I like doing master sets as that allows me to actually finish a binder fully then select a new goal/ project. Currently im working towards finishing master sets for pokemon go, silver tempest and obsidian flames. Once thats finished new awakening master set is on the list along with a whole lot of digimon backlog.

Great video as always~ I always love your Digimon content. I am curious to know what your thoughts are on Bandi wanting sets after BT-20 to be simultaneous releases as well as the leaks/revealed cards for the upcoming sets.

Im personally building a koki collection gonna be a huge koki art collection of digimon cards 😂😂

I have a singular collection goal with multiple smaller steps (calling it multiple goals makes it feel worse 😂): I want to finally sort out my collection of Magic cards and get it into a bunch of binders/sorted boxes. On the side, however, a different tcg goal that comes with a collection is the goal of starting Digimon and attending events. So, I guess the secondary goal is starting a new collection

I collected every full art trainer from Sword and Shield and I ended up dreading each new set release because of the obligation I set myself! I was incredibly freeing to stop collecting anything Pokemon as it became far too expensive! I now only collect my favourite cards of my favourite Digimon… that is until Disney Lorcana came out 😢

Oh my goodness LORCANA one of my friends has shown me the app, it’s so intuitive and all I want to do is make an animal themed deck

I've transitioned into buying pokemon singles now because the market allows it. It seems pretty much impossible to get your value back with current pokemon sets unless they print Iono or Eeveelutions. So instead of buying a case on every release I just open one box and buy the rest :)

Comp Yu-Gi-Oh last year for me was bad. Since then I've taken a cool off. Dug out some Pokemon cards the other day found my poncho Pikachu's and now the goblin has reawoke and I'm wanting to pick up more ponchos but after seeing the prices I'll prolly not bother 😂

2024 its my aim to cut down my collection. I got rid of a bunch of miniatures and cards. Yeah, I brought some, but less than I got rid of so counting that as a win right? I'd love to see some binder collections as they were at the start of 2024 so we can see the progress at the end.

i just want to build a pokedex as well as is possible with the current scarlet & violet sets. doesn't need to be rare cards, doesn't need to be all cards, but having a card for every pokemon that is available in the current run of cards would be nice. given how only 500+ pokemon are currently available in the SV series, I also have a good chance of still fitting into my 1 big pokemon binder.

Honestly i have been stopping my spending of pokemon quite a bit. Reason 1 its is straight up too hard to collect with the ridiculous amount of secret rares now a day also taking into consideration there is only 1 LGS in my town and they focus on magic and yugioh so no pokemon or digimon. Reason 2 digimon i find by far more enjoyable to play.
