It's called insurance. It is based on volatility insecurity perspectives which is relative. His advice is neither correct nor incorrect on absolute basis. Just like a life insurance seller will get commission out of selling the insurance to you which 'might' only be helpful if you were to unfortunately pass away within said conditions. Ofcourse you can choose to not buy that insurance and live to spend that insurance premium elsewhere. There's no absolute correct truth here.

Good evening Mr. Sundar, Your explanation of example of hedging by put option is very useful, but extremely difficult to understand by hearing only. A written illustration would have been easier and convenient to understand the calculation. I am sure that you have taught maths to your students on black board only. 😊

If my portfolio is having small cap companies , then if sudden crash will come , small cap companies fall 25-30 % , nifty index fall 5% then how hedging works 😂

Dont ever stop your sips in mutual funds. may be stop in sip in single stocks. I have a good diversified stock portfolio. I am stopping my sips or buying in bulk in stocks from june in my own porftolio, becuase my dad also still invests in direct socks. While instead of direct stocks i am going to buy etfs , mutual funds, ulips and reits in my porfolio for the next 5 years.

hedging is always for the safety of your capital in longer period of time you get space and many of them on this forum doesn't know the word stoploss even if the hedging done is kept for longer period of time

Sell before results... Buy after 1 day.... Simple don't buy option because of vix crash after results comes. option premium suddenly down 80 to 90%... Over all u lose.... If market fall 5% Then u make some little profit or break even.

Hung parliament, although a distant probability, but cant rule out any probability in elections, the only certainty about elections is uncertainty. Till then let us trade as it comes on a, day to day basis, for now market appears over bought and over valued for short term.

Guys you should understand that you are not at all 100% protected if you buy/sell your hedges to protect your portfolio as mentioned and claimed in this video. Suppose Nifty is stock that you buy at 22500 and you buy a put option of strike 22500 to protect. Now if Nifty falls 1000 points you will lose 1000 x 25 = 25000/-. Will your put option cover the entire loss of 25000/-? The answer is no because your nifty buy has a fixed delta of 1 whereas your put hedge has a delta of - 0.50 to start with. So it will never cover your entire loss. Plus your put option will also have theta decay against you. Similarly if you sell a call option to cover your portfolio it also has limitations. To start with your call sell option's delta is much below 0.50 and this delta will keep decreasing if the market keeps falling and this call hedge will only partially cover your losses.

For 100% hedge do synthetic future short. BTW hedges are done for protection against sudden surge or drop in mkt due to big event, hedges are never done for 100% protection.

YOU'RE 100% COVERED and you will make a decent profit even if the market turns bearish, bullish or sideways.
