We went to Ecuador several years ago and spent time in Quito. There is a "on and off" tour bus that we used and one of the stops was the monument you walked up to. Our only problem was it started to rain when we got there and you couldn't go inside because they were "out to lunch" lol.

Haha - that is unfortunate! The statue is cool and worth the trip - especially in the safety of a bus :)

I would love to do that climb but seeing how things are now, it's best to just take a cab.

I walked those same stairs and got hit in the head with a gun and shot right around the same time as this video. Walking there with a camera was a really bad idea, but I had gotten totally complacent walking around the Historic Center where the police were so proactive looking out for you. I wish I had had your guys’ luck.

Oh wow! That is awful. Yea in hindsight we were really lucky.

Los turistas de todo el mundo que han llegado a Quito, siempre han hecho comentarios positivos, por ser una ciudad hermosa, historica y segura sin crimenes y Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad por parte de UNESCO. Los norteamericanos, son los que mas disfrutan y se van felices y regresan muchas veces. Ustedes, par de tontos, se coge un taxi desde la historica Plaza de la Independencia hasta la cima del hermoso cerro Panecillo, se paga 2 USD por 15 minutos de viaje y se evita caminar por 1 hora por el sendero de perros. Espero que regresen y comprueben lo manifestado. Saludos.

Hi there, nice video. I am staying in Quito for five days and in between one day going on a trip to Cotopaxi. Are there many stray dogs/animals around in the main (touristic) areas in Quito? I am asking because wanting to know if it is necessary to get the rabies vaccine before that. I would appreciate your response. Thank you.

There are a lot of dogs in general in South America. You will frequently see them roaming the streets, looking for food scraps. That said - I never once saw any of them being aggressive or threatening to anyone. They just coexist with tourists. They’re perfectly pleasant. So if it was me, I wouldn’t bother with a rabies vaccine.

ohhh thank you so much for your quick reply. Yeah, I think so too. I have been in Mexico also years ago, and saw also dogs sometimes, but they were just walking. And I am not intending to go to some unknown places and will stick in the areas where also people are around.@@windowseatworldtravel
