DON'T do these 5 things to your luxury watch!

This is really 5 ways to maintain and look after your luxury watch. But that sounds boring, so I packaged it as 5 ways to break your luxury wristwatch.
Questions I answer are:
- Can I break my watch by dropping it?
- Will magnets damage my watch movement? - will airport security damage my watch?
- Can I swim with my watch / what does water resistant mean?
- How to safely change the date on my watch? Is it dangerous to change the date on my watch?
- Can I overwind my watch?
The Omega Railmaster is the best when it comes to dealing with magnetic fields, better than the Rolex Milgauss.
I also talk about the idea of wanting to make eye-catching content for Instagram and how this can lead you to taking risky watch shots. It's better the stick to wrist shots.
By the way, your Rolex Submariner is only 300m water resistant with withe crown screwed in. Even with the triple lock seal.
Let me know if I've missed any points out.

Dropping is definitely a no no as far as magnetism I don’t see this as a problem unless you work at a hospital around MRI machines. Normal magnets or computers aren’t much risk I have never magnetized any of my watches over the last 10 or so years I have been collecting. For over winding most modern watches do not allow this as they have a stop to over wind but for vintage it could be a problem. For water damage over 100m and your good unless your scuba Steve

Was surfing with my daughter and pushing her into waves. She caught a wave and as she sped away, her leash caught perfectly on my Omega Planet Ocean and snapped it off my wrist. Three hours later of diving to the bottom over and over again to look for it, I finally had to give up. Still pains me to think of it. I loved that watch!

I think a good rule to go with is just don't take your watch off in random places (public restrooms, at a friends place, basically anywhere that isn't beside your bed or to put in a safe). You can't lose your watch if it is simply on your wrist (the chances are really low for it to randomly pop off). Yeah someone could point a gun at you and take it but that's an entirely different discussion. Point of the matter is, you can't lose the watch if it's on your wrist like Adrian said. My mother told me this when she gifted me with my first rolex (submariner) when I graduated college. I've been wearing it for almost 5 years straight. Yeah it's scratched up but it's still on my wrist today.

I would like to add : do not take a shower with your watch, regardless of its water resistance. Soap and shampoo break the surface tension of the water, so it becomes much more capable of seeping into the smallests of openings. A seal capable of stopping pure water may fail on soapy water. Soap will deteriorate the silicone grease that has been applied to the seals.

Just a note for anyone considering a railmaster based on antimagnetism. All Omega Master chronometers can withstand up to 15000 Gauss. The railmaster was a tool watch built for antimagnetism back in 1957. But all modern omegas boast that spec.

Oi - that story at the end raised my heartbeat, lol (and good of your wife too). As a certified watch nerd, I knew most of these things already, though not to the extent you mention. I knew it's not cool to set the date between those times, but I did not know that 6:30 was the safest time to do so. And also even though I'm aware of magnetism, I was not super conscious about common household appliances. I will not, of course put my 1940s vintage Omega on my HiFi Speakers. PS - really contemplating a 14270 (or a vintage black dial DJ)... It's tricky to find the Exp with lug holes. I can't find any currently. Thanks, mate.

I think it's how hard you hit the end of your manual wind watch. With my Speedy, I wind it every other day and wind it till it reaches the end of its wind as recommended by Omega. I can feel when it's reaching that point (and also count the winds) and slow down and approach the end with care till I gently nudge the end of the winding action.

I managed to magnetize my watch some weeks ago, it went from +2s/day to +7. A bit annoying. If I have the tool demagnetised, will it return to its former glory, or not quite?

Quick tip for taking shots like that rolex shot. Fishing line attached to your leg and to the watch. Really easy to cut it out in post, (if you need to do that at all) and safe.

You make really cool videos ! To me the Seiko Turtles fit best into water. Especially the Save The Ocean versions. 🌊 🐟 🦈

Good video! It's bad that the information about the date change is not more carefully spread from dealers. Probably many owners of automatic watches are not aware of it. But why should I adjust the date at 06:30? I use to do it at 06:00. Does it really matter?

Watching this while wearing a 35 years Steel Square G. Feeling quite at ease... that being said... my Oris Flight Master is in the shop for a checkup after it started gaining over 1 min per day.

I'm thinking about sending my submariner to service as the accuracy is a bit off. Can you recommend any watchmaker that you trust besides the AD?

I own Omega, Rolex and Cartiers, but when swimming much less scuba diving I wear a $200 dollar Seiko 200 meter diver. It's 25 years old and has been diving, swimming, showering and hand washing all over to the world. It is damn near bullet proof
