Don’t do that to your camera!

For this week, I answer one strap question I was asked a few weeks ago: How do you strap your telephoto lens properly? I show you how to use the peak design ankers and straps. I hope this video is helpful. Let me know what you think below.

I've been using Peak Design anchors and straps for years. I use the exact same system with my OM bodies and 150-400 lens too. 🙂

Your demonstration speaks for itself (so do you), but I can add something.

Ha it more like a Peak Design add but you are right and l use the same set up with anchors and a Slide strap.

I love the Peak Design straps. I have both the “Leash” and the “Cuff” as they are very different in functionality. I find I use the Cuff most of the time as I don’t use long lenses often unless my camera is mounted on my tripod.

Some years ago, I thought it would be a good idea to use the OP/TECH USA lens loop for my Sony A1/200-600 mm combo. This loop has been designed to avoid stress on the camera mount. However, I did not notice that while walking, the loop constantly pushes on the lens release button of the camera! Long story short, the lens dropped to the ground and somehow, I managed to catch the camera body with my hands shortly before it followed the law of gravitation. Fortunately this happened on a grassy place, so there was no damage to the lens.

Thanks for the info! With the 100-400 I add an anchor to the camera body and another to the tripod mount of the lens itself, which I believe is fine. If only I had the 150-400 😁

About the best non camera manufacturer item for cameras ever made! For landscape photographers easy to remove your strap if doing panoramas or long exposures to reduce shake on a tripod even more. Easily transferred from one camera to another if you upgrade.

I stopped using straps to my gear years ago, I have had many more accidents with my photo gear with straps than without straps !

i prefer the QD (Quick Disconnect) system which is available on RRS/Kirk and some brackets/plates.

I've actual broken the mounts on an Olympus camera and also on an Olympus lens. The first was the lens mount on a 300mm. Then when I learned to use the set-up your detailing , I managed to grab my camera only while the lens was strapped. That stupid move broke a camera mount. So with any lens that comes with a foot- alway use the strap to lens AND be sure to use the lens to lift the camera into position.

Absolutely need to look at these Peak Design anchors. Currently using a strap connected to the lens shoe with large lenses and easy release clips on the camera for small light lenses. Very useful video clip Emilie 😊😊

Peak design couldn’t recommend them highly enough good of you to put it out there for other people. A good many of the Olympus ambassadors make me cringe the way they hold the camera waving about with a big heavy lens on the front. I’ve seen them do this often with the 300 mm at four that’s a heavy lens.
