The title is borderline clickbait. He said don't buy the G502 X Plus, not the G502 X. The Plus version only adds RGB. So he did say not to buy the version with RGB at the end and he said the non RGB version was good enough to buy. So he technically wasn't wrong with the title.

  • @telkaivokalma

Had mine for a day now, couple notables: - The DPI shift buttons are the main feature of the G502, second only to the grip style. Not for the ability to swap dpi on the fly, but for the button placement. Swap those buttons to keys that you can use in game. Ya'll not doing this are missing out, heavily. The G502 is the "best selling mouse ever made" and not the basilisk. What's the only difference? The DPI buttons. USE THEM. The larger size on the g7 also allows you to hit it with your thumb comfortably. This is great as I use it for push to mute and grenade/gadget depending on the game, and freeing up the pointer finger is useful. - The Scroll UP/DOWN is now customizable in GHUB. This is actually fairly huge. Bunny hopping and infinite scroll wheel shooting? I'm sure there are other uses. I've only made use of it in Warframe so far, but I'll be keeping an eye out for other uses. - The weight. I'm throwing this out there for the people not pretending to be "pro gamers" and actually value comfort over a .01 percent higher k/dr. The g502x is markedly lighter. To the point that is slightly uncomfortable. I have both the OG lightspeed and the X in front of me, and I'll definitely be taking up the advice of swapping the bottom weight plate. If you are in it for a lighter mouse, but want the comfort of the g502 layout, this is probably a huge plus for you. Not for me. If I didn't have the extra weight plate, I would be *weighing* (lol) the pros and cons as far as keeping the OG lightspeed around. - The RGB strip is awkward and noticeable in the palm. I don't like it. It's not a make it or break it for me, but it is unusual. - The thumb rest area feels shorter. I'm unsure if this is a pro or a con. - The lack of a gap at the front of the mouse between the left and right mb is annoying. I liked the gap. It's been a day and I've tried to click that area multiple times now when regrabbing the mouse because it sits in the same location as muscle memory puts my middle finger from the OG lightspeed. Not a huge thing, but it is weird. - It is talked about in the video, but the mouse wheel is a huge improvement. Like HUGE improvement. I have hated the g502 mouse wheel since I first picked up the OG in 2014, despite it becoming my favorite mouse for nearly a decade. This is significant, imo. The X fixed all the issues I've had with the 502, but added some others. So far I'm happy with my purchase.

Having used the g402 for years I don't think I can EVER use a gaming mouse long terms without those from "DPI" buttons. Always have the foremost one bound to melee and in movement heavy games like halo and apex not having to take my fingers off WASD has gotten me kills more than I can count.

it really is just a matter of preference, after using the g502 and some other mice i really liked the weight of it without all the weights and it felt super nice to use. even with all the weights my brain filled the gaps and i got used to it, still preferred it without them though. as long as it doesn’t feel like a rock, weight doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things as long as you’re comfortable with it and it feels good to use.

And as the new one has a pretty cheap and thin cable that is not sleeved as the old one every time the cable touched my table or something I could really feel it (Yeah bad cable management on my part, but it was never a problem before.) long story short, bought the lightspeed version, weight is more comparable to the old one and no cheap annoying cable :D Hopefully it will last me the next 8 or so years like the old one.

Playing apex I have my forward movement and jump bound to the scroll wheel for wall jumps and tap strife which is great for the free spin wheel but it get annoying when I go to lift up my mouse to reset center the mouse wheel is so sensitive that it causes me to jump at unwanted times and gets me kill more times than not. Got the G502X Lightspeed version in black (my first ever G502) and i'm freakin loving it. The only thing that stopped me buying a G502 before was the non-removable sniper&thumb button on the side. Absolutely hated it. Now that they've pulled a razer on that thing (on Basilisk Ultimate it is removable), got it ASAP. Using a Razer Basilisk Ultimate on the side and i must say that mouse has a very unstable scrolling experience. You cannot switch weapons in games only relying on the scroll wheel steps because it is not registering scrolls until you push the wheel a little bit further in order to complete its registering... When i opened it up i saw that it's using a cheap potentiometer system rather than an Optical encoder like Logi products. And that potentiometer is wiggling back and forth as you scroll the wheel causing those scroll skips. I've managed to tuck a toothpick (yes a freakin toothpick) in the enclosure in order to prevent it to wiggle, and it improved the scroll skips to a managable degree. If anyone is interested in it i can send photos of it. Anyway, stay away from Basilisk ultimate and V2. Stick to G502X.

I’ve had mine for a while now, main complain is the scroll wheel, dpi buttons. The free scroll wheel is something I don’t enjoy purely because I do play shooters, can’t be y-y 360 no scoping everybody ya know? I also find myself accidentally changing dpi and I have yet to change it in the profile (postal employee, sorry sometimes just wanna game) so I know it’s more of my fault than the mouse, but unlucky I have to change it. Overall though, I do enjoy the mouse, I wish I would have invested in the death adder v3 purely because I loved the v2 so much. But the mouse after I disable the scroll wheel, the mouse feels great in my hand as I have larger hands than most, the clocks feel great for my bigger palm grip, because I push towards the end of the buttons, the battery lasts me hours and I charge maybe weekly. I did have a lot of customization to it as we, so it does feel very Personal when you make a profile. It does have add-able weights to make heavier but although I find it fine. Overall I would say 7-10. Overall great feel besides scroll wheel, and goddamn was it expensive lol

I use the rgb on my 502 ONLY to have a visual representation of my current profile, so if my profile wasn't changed while starting a game I'd instantly know and will be able to turn it on manually. Other than that I also don't care for rgb. So if I want to have that feature I'd have to go for the rgb version, because the other ones have 0 lights to indicate that.

If you’re coming from the G502 Lightspeed Edition you can change the bottom cover that holds the USB dongle on the G502X(+) (which is pure crap plastic compared to the rest of the mouse) with the one from the G502 Lightspeed that has the two weight slots in it (and is much better quality plastic) and you get a pretty good feeling mouse that isn’t so heavy that movement feels sluggish, but not so light to the point you feel like you could chuck the mouse off your desk.

I use the rgb on the regular g502 to let me know if my per game profile did actually fire off. When my profile is in desktop mode I have the lights on the mouse set to red and when its running a custom profile for a game its green. Ghub is so trash and unreliable this became necessary to tell what profile the mouse is running. So rgb for looks is unnecessary but at least with my standard g502 and other peripherals like my keyboard rgb does a great job of communicating what color coded profile is running. So rgb can be practical. When it comes to my peripherals I couldn't live without it.

Too late. Bought that already. And I thought I would just be able to turn the rgb off. In part, that’s true, you can just disable lightsync. But the rgb is not completely gone. Whenever I’m away from it, the rgb turns on again, just so it ruins the battery time… There’s one more thing I don’t get either… I own an MX Anywhere 2S, which also has the “infinite scroll” (hyper fast scrolling) feature, but it works on a different software. In that one I can enable a smooth scrolling option, and that’s absent on G Hub. WHY? WHY? WHY? I mean, this is a high end mouse! Why would you have “infinite scroll” on it if you don’t pack its full potential? Other than those two problems, though, it’s a great mouse.

I just got mine today, would I pay for rgb again? ig yes but only with the white version since with it turned off it doesn't look much different to the non rgb model color wise, and effects are actually pretty nice, especially that new pulsar thing or whatever they call it. I liked old scroll wheel better because it was easier to press due to it's weight, and you could actually feel it spinning in free scroll mode, where's this one doesnt feel like it'd doing anything. I have one thing that annoys me, dpi buttons are poorly designed, while they look good you have to do some weird finger movement to press dpi down and i dont really have my whole palm on the surface of the mouse so I have it easier than most of it's target group. Why is this so important? well even in their software buttons that were hinted to be put over dpi functionality were 1 and 2 which are used for weapon switching, something that was easy to do on 1st and 2nd gen 502 and here it's a bit complicated with the increased size of dpi up. Other than that this mouse is 10/10 in all of it's configurations.

  • @telkaivokalma

It's probably heavily dependent on your grip, but I've found that button easy to hit with my thumb if that helps. But you are right, it was a weird adjustment with the DOWN sitting a little further back. A suggestion: swap those dpi buttons to numpad buttons and keybind the respective numpad buttons in whatever game you are playing. I use Num+ and Num- for DPI UP/DOWN respectively and then swap the in game keybinding for whatever I want to Num+ and Num- depending. Keybinds for 1 and 2 are a lot of time ingrained in certain games and that sounds finicky. YMMV, obviously, mice and their configurations are a very subjective thing.

@@yhiz4757 You comment is not based on facts, it's based on your emotions. Heavier mouse creates feeling of premium, this is not only related to mice, but almost all the products. When the product is made with good materials, it weights more and is not breaking as easily. There is an argument that lighter mouse is easier on your wrist and maybe faster to move and easier to stop the movement, but I have not seen any result based evidence on that and supporting lighter mice, which feel more cheap. Holes in the mouse creates obvious downfalls like dirt dropping inside the mouse, which may cause malfuctinon in long run and also edges of the holes is harder to clean and it feels awkward against your skin. Increased breathability is probably a good thing. G502 is the best mouse, if you want that type of button layout, which I do want. The g502 is a cheap PoS and really shouldn't be recommended in 2023 not for any use case. There are alternative button layouts and yes personally I would love more mice with 3 or more side buttons but I'd rather not end up like my dad (who has bad RSI after years of office work). Also the shape really isn't that ergonomic, just because it has a shitty thumb rest doesn't mean it's made to fit the shape of your hand like zowies mice or the deathadder v3 pro is.

@@yhiz4757 Your opinion is biased, because the amount of G502 out there. If there is one bad patch, internet is full of complains about that and they remain even though the problem is fixed. I have been using G502 for about 10 years and I have no problem with clicking. The mouse wheel was poor and I think it still is poor, but they changed the material, which probably makes it last longer, I still don't like how scrolling feels, I changed G500 wheel to my old G502 and it was much better and also much better than this new G502 wheel. Some people cannot handle their mice probably and then buttons can come of. Nothing like that has happened to me in 10 years of use. I bought a new G502, because I wanted to go wireless. My old G502 is still working, but it took some damage when I opened it to change a wheel. That is another con in this mouse (probably in most the mice), it is hard to open without breaking it. You are right that shape is not that ergonomic, but more ergonomic mice are not gaming mice, this is probably the most ergonomic gaming mouse or at least in top 5. Thumb rest is really good. Fit to your hand is subjective, because we have different hands.
