Thank you for making this video! I'm getting the Apple adaptor for non-courtroom use with an 8 ft. hdmi cable, but the heads up about the potential issue for 50 ft. cables is super helpful. I don't recall whether the hdmi cable in my courtroom is 30 ft, or 50 ft., but there likely wouldn't be enough time to order and receive a different hdmi adaptor if I wasn't aware of the potential problem after trying out my Macbook Air (15 in.) on a 50 ft. hdmi the day before a trial. Actually, rather than being stuck without enough time to get an hdmi adaptor that would work, I'd likely have been forever stuck using the Windows laptop we keep in the courtroom, because I would have incorrectly thought my MacBook Air wasn't capable of going long. I'm actually surprised that the iPad Pro can push through a 30 ft. hdmi though, and I'm assuming my MacBook Air can do the same.

Did you try giving power to the dongle via usb c? Maybe it recognized that displaying video signal through a longer cable required more power? Just a thought

Hi bro. Great video. Liked and subscribed. I have some questions when I don’t seems to find the answer else where. I am using my iPad Pro (comes with USB-C port) to listen to music connecting it to DAC, I didn’t use a Apple Camera Adapter (which was recommended) instead I use a 3rd party ones for my desktop DAC/Headphone amp. Everything was working fine until after like 1 year connecting to any DAC whether it’s desktop type or usb dongle type, getting it to work no longer straight forward and it’s inconsistent for it to detect. Also now my fast charge with the original cable and power brick does work anymore. I trouble shoot by changing cables and it works charging with other USB-A to USB cable (with the original power brick). But it doesn’t fast charge anymore. I even bought a new Apple Original cable to trouble shoot and it failed too. By the way I am a IEM (earphone) hobbyist. Now I only use the smaller dongle like usb c DAC and it’s not consistent detecting. I have to plug and on plug. Some times I have to launch a game or a music streaming apps and plug and unplug for 3-7 times only it works. Questions What damage the iPad usb-c fast charge port? Why it’s harder to detect the DAC (where I plug my earphone into). Is it kinda faulty or could it be the new IPadOS updates?

I'd love to know if it is possible to use a mini PC stick (running windows 10) with an ipad pro. My thoughts are if you used an app like duet display (would have to set it up on the pc stick first and then install app on ipad) which people use to turn their ipad pros into monitors for their pc. And then plugged the pc stick into the ipad's usb c port with an hdmi to usb c adapter, I don't see why it wouldn't work. This would give an option for those who want to use an ipad pro as much as possible as their main device, but could carry the pc stick with them for times when they might want to do something on win 10, like if some apps they needed weren't available for ipad (obviously those pc sticks wouldn't be great for resource hungry apps though like photoshop, but for many applications it might be fine)

Thank you for the idea you give us about that default of the cable.

Right now, there're two types of HDMI cables, one is HDMI 1.4 version and the other is HDMI 2.0 version, however they look like the same in eyes. And the type-c we talk is based on USB (i don't know what the version your iPad's USB it is, maybe USB 2.0 version, USB 3.0 version or USB 3.1 version. The latest USB version is 3.2 gen 2). So there are too many reasons we need to think about 🤔

Unsure if you done a video or not but have you been able to transfer files from an older gen iPad to the new iPad Pro via an adapter?

The picture is incredible with 4K Dolby Vision. You get what you pay for, third party can’t always compare to Apple.

@@enlighttened well lucky you. I brought one and can’t get anything to show up on my tv screen. It shows it’s connected with the little blue icon but no picture.

Apple dongle does need the power adapter connected as it draws less power from the iPad - the other adapter takes more power hence the difference. Let's face it though...how many people out there are going to be using 30m & 50m HDMI cable in the general population? Great vid though and that AV input device looks amazing 👍

One question have you guys tried the Amazon’s adaptor to any tv using Netflix or apps that usually don’t allow third party dongles? I had issues with aftermarket in lighting cables as apple did updates in iOS those adapters stop working only apples white adapter worked . Camera n pics mostly any dongle works but how about type c is apple doing this again?

Hi I dont know if someone already said that in the comment so i'll keep it short ( TLDR it's a power problem). The longer HDMI cable are very bad to transport data without loss ( it's a downside of HDMI ) So when you use low power input the power makes a flick but doesn't connect. The Apple dongle little cable is very weak and addup to already rather weaker signal ( ipad low battery PC and so on ). It might sometimes work even at slightly long length but it's uncertain. I saw a lot of occurrences of that in my life trust me these dongles are a nightmare.

For a 50’ run, you really would be better off with SDI or an hdmi-over-CAT6. Passive hdmi is not intended for long runs…

Which adapter has an Ethernet & headphone outlet?

50ft is the limit of the passive cable. I dont think this is apple’s problem. I’ve been thru all these problem in my auditorium setting with all different devices. Some works, some don’t. Some seemed to work then fail. I think Apple designed to draw small power as possible to protect the device and prevent interference with other ports. I also want to know clear solution to this situation, but if you are a normal user, plz be aware not to use hdmi cable longer than 30ft.

It's possible that it's an attenuation problem with the 50ft HDMI, and that the Amazon connector is somehow boosting the signal just a bit so the 50ft will work. (This isn't ideal, but...) If you have problems with SSD's/HD's not working/recognized by a tablet/PC/laptop, then using a plugged-in/powered mini-hub should boost the signal/power enough to make the drives and cables work (as far as getting a green light/power, and as long as the Tablet can read the drive's formatting). Thank you for this video :) >>> ALSO: These 2 videos discuss using a RAVpower Travel Router. You can set it next to your iPad Pro and connect the iPad through the RAVpower Router wirelessly (to an SSD/HD). Thank you for the info! I'm experiencing volume issues on my iPad 12.9 2020 using the Apple USB-C 3.5mm headphone adapter and two pairs of Bose over-ear wired headphones. As you probably know Bose is an approved third-party manufacturer. The volume automatically raises and lowers on its own and the headphone in-line volume control module periodically functions. I bought a similar adapter from Belkin, another Apple approved third-party manufacturer. Same issues. Have you experienced or heard of this before?

There are several Revisions of the HDMI specification, like, 1.4 and up to 2.1. Which HDMI specs does your 50 foot cable support, vs which specs does the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter vs what HDMI specs do the other usb c to HDMI converters support?

The Apple USB-C Digital AV adapter is splitting its bandwidth with HDMI and USB A port. A dedicated USB C to HDMI adapter is a single bandwidth scenario. Try this with another multi port hub and let’s see what the result is. Not defending any brand just surmising possible reasons. Also on the USB-C Digital AV adapter was it the new 60hz 4K model or the older 30hz 4K model? Look forward to your response.

It works with my cable, the problem I have with it is that it grabs the audio automatically and I can't use my Bluetooth speaker anymore.

I bought this 6 days ago and at the time it worked wonderfully but now when I try to charge the iPad while using it the adapter doesn’t work but If I charge it without the adapter it works, but the other slots work it’s just that one charging slot that won’t work is this a common thing that happens?

You're right, it's a shame! I'm a big fan of Apple for a long time and I purchased the Apple adapter (very expensive but I was sure it was of course a good choice...) and doesn't work: neither on my iPad pro nor on my iMac 2019, neither in HDMI nor in Displayport...I'm very disappointed!! I purchased now a SATECHI cable (half the price of Apple product) which is working perfectly ;)

I am definitely not a techie but I am getting a Yamaha keyboard and want to connect to my IPad Pro through (I think) a USB port and I need an adapter. One guy suggested a Lightning to USB 3. Is this the same adapter you are saying is not reliable? If so, can you suggest one and where to buy it that would work?

I have one for my piano to connect using usb adapter from apple and after using this adapter “twice” it doesn’t work properly right now such waste of money. Idk how to return it since I bought it on Amazon.

I use a USB-C Hub by Anker rather than use any Apple Hubs or cables.

upgrade to ios 13. make sure your hard drive is properly formatted

Low output voltage of the apple adaptor. The non-apple adaptors are drawing alot more power from the tablet to power the signal over the 50ft cable which could deplete battery faster(which is not a critical issue anyway) cheers!

depends on the cable. i've seen some very cheap cables that only seem to work as a charging cable. it's not always, but sometimes.

An interesting observation you made. But you didn't then buy another Apple USB c adapter to make sure that there really is some issue with Apple's adapters instead your adapter being faulty? The last possibility is of course not very likely, but still.

good point. i didn't test that. but 2 for 2 working with no name brand usb C adapters and 0 for 1 for apple brand adapters is enough for me to make a decision.

Perhaps it’s because the apple cable is also a hub.

Not only this usb adapter..also the charger like 20w charger..the 3rd party one (like Aukey/Anker) is much better (less heat better build quality) and much cheaper as well. Apple accessories price tag is just overpriced.

I highly bought people are buying this product to use it via a 50’ hdmi cable !! I’m sure a lot of people will agree with me.
