There is a wrong information in your video. Mis information: Turbocharger doesn't send exhaust gases to engine.. also wastegate isnt meant to control the exhaust gases delivery into engine Actual purpose: Turbocharger uses the exhaust gases energy to run the one end of turbine which in turns rotates the other end of the compressor side. Compressor side sucks & compresses the air from outside, high pressure leads to high temperature so the compressed fresh air goes to intercooler and then to the engine. Waste gate mechanism is to limit the boost pressure based on the engine critical rpm.. waste gate lets the gases out to the exhaust to reduce or control the turbine rpm/boost pressure.. There is a separate system called EGR unit which recirculates the exhaust gas to engine to reduce the NoX levels.. @motowagon

@MotoWagen A slight change in your explanation, the exhaust gas will not be feeded into the engine through compressor. Instead the exhaust gas will drive the compressor to sucks in the atmospheric air and compress and send it to the engine through intercooler because the exhaust gas has only carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide, particulate matter but to burn the fuel it needs oxygen which it will get it from atmospheric air.

Overall, the content of this video is awesome and thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us Bro. Great explanation and communication from you are the key factors I observed in your videos. The purpose of turbo engine is to provide higher torque and power for wider range of RPM and that too from the lower RPM. This enables the driver to build the acceleration and utilise the full potential of an engine quickly which gives him the feel of fun to drive! Like you pinpointed about the driving style of cruising at lower rpm with higher load, it degrades the performance and makes the smaller engine to cry! But with right shifting of gears and throttling, we can build faster acceleration and improve the fuel efficiency! Once again, keep the good work up with further more videos!

A turbo charger has a Shaft which has a turbine in one end and a compressor on the other end, like a turbine in a dam where electricity is generated by water splashing on the turbine and moving it, the same way the exhaust gases is used to move the turbine and that runs the compressor the compressor, the turbos compressor side is connected to the engines intake side, so it's the air from the intake side is being compressed and not the engines exhaust

Four cyclinder NA is a trouble free long living engine. It would be good if we get four cylinder turbo petrol engine which is of less vibration and better reliable than a three cylinder turbo. I am a big fan of four cylinder na 1) extremely silent 2) ease of use at city/bumber to bumber traffic. Not sure how many of you agree, in my view cars with heavier engine are more stable than the lighter ones.

Now while using Scross petrol higher speeds don't feel the same confidence as fiesta. I know there are other factors like high seating more GC affects stability but heavy engine at front is also a factor

Nice information. However, you might want to re-look at what you said at 8:05 about the hot exhaust gases being fed into the engine cylinder. That is never the case. The exhaust is used to drive the turbocharger. The turbocharger consists of a turbine wheel and a compressor wheel connected by a shaft. The hot exhaust is used to spin the turbine wheel. The wastegate is typically pressure-sensitive (or ECU controlled) and is used to divert excess exhaust gases away from the turbine wheel so that it does not end up spinning too fast. Now, once the turbine wheel spins fast enough, the other end which comprises the compressor wheel will spin fast enough to pressurize the intake air and send the compressed air into the cylinder. Which is why, manufacturers specify the RPM from where the turbocharger kicks in. This is basically the RPM where the turbine wheel and hence the compressor wheel spins fast enough to compress the air effectively for everything to work.

Only if well engineered, and today we do get good engineering. Do note here you need Engine+Turbo to gel and work. NA is simple engineering. There used to be a say earlier Petrol engines are less expensive to maintain in long run compare to Diesel engines, mainly because smaller Diesel engines need Turbo. If we go by this logic, then today's turbo petrol will also be expensive to maintain in long run compared to NA engines. 3 cylinders needs to work more to get going.. Reliability is simple to achieve in NA, whereas it is bit complex to achieve in Turbo assist Engines.

One point I would add is Suzuki for it's boosterjet is prescribing additives every 20000k, then the Vw group asks users to go for high octane 95 for to prevent unwanted detonation, and knocking. Then You have the carbon build up in these gdi engines which needs regular servicing, then the turbo is responsible for the power increase, plus with the ethanol content ever increasing will affect the turbo engines more In a nutshell even though these three cylinder turbos are said to be well engineered, how these are going to be adopted to the Indian conditions only time will say, as these have more moving parts then a NAs, generally these vibrate more than the even numbered engines the Inline and flats So you will always have a option to choose a 1.5 NA making 103-121 hp with the same power made by the three cylinder turbos. So you will get to choose a turbo top end vs a 1. 5 base bigger car in most case

Good review about the GDI!! U mentioned about the octane rating of the MS to be 95 & above. Nowadays nearly 20% of ethanol (if I'm correct) is added. Is it compatible for this engine.

Bro the higher ethanol content might affect these engines more, as every aspect influences how much power it produces, the 95 octane is recommended indeed to reduce the knocking or detonation. As these gdi turbos are highly sensitive to fuel quality. There are certain things which the manufacturers openly talk sometimes

@Motowagon. Few Manufacturer like (VW & Skoda) do mention this in there vehicle's user manual to use petrol with octane level above 95. Some don't mention this in their user manual. Do we really need to use petrol with octane level above 95 for all turbo petrol engines?

Let's say the three cylinder turbo does the work of a 4 cylinder with one cylinder less and with a help of a turbo, now since the engine is turbocharged to make the desired power, you might need the others factors too to make the desired power, high octane fuel is generally prescribed to reduce knocking or in other way increasing the engines resistance to detonation, means the fuel is burnt effectively and it does not ignites itself etc, there by producing optimum power. High octane is usually prefered for high performance engines

While your emphasis on 3 cylinder petrol engines is correct, turbocharging such engines is a thing of the past. NA is best. From the perspective of efficiency & cost. If there has to be an auxiliary boost then a mild hybrid Integrated Starter Generator is more at home in such engines rather than a turbocharger. I like to think of an ISG as a friend in need. It provides assistance during the torque challenged regions of the ICE and a turbocharger as a fair wheather friend. It also comes to its elements at about the same time the ICE has. Honestly a turbocharger is a diesel domine product or maybe used in sports applications.✌️

When turbo got introduced in diesel, this was the same thought at that time. But NA diesel got extinct decades ago and the Turbo diesels were the hot selling engines. The same fate is for NA petrols as well in the near future.

@@vigneshsunder1982 I beg to differ, dude. In diesel engines the turbocharger force-feeds only air. In-order to increase the combustion temperature. Whereas in a petrol engine the turbocharger force-feeds fuel-air mix which leads to its short-circuit release as engine speed increases. This decreases the efficiency of an already inefficient petrol engine.😊

Petrol turbos are only new to India and it's been in use for a long time abroad, in India the power never exceeded 90hp or even 100hp, now high performance petrol heads are coming out more, plus the goverment with its un clear policy they are downsizing engines, so they are mooting these small engines, a three cylinder has to be turbo charged to produce the desired power. As far the alternate tech specially the hybrids the goverment is simply not ready to reduce the taxes, and hybrids does not work exactly like turbos though

Three cylinder engine firing angle is different from a 4 cylinder, 4 cylinder is more even balanced engine thus vibrates less, three cylinder vibrates more so need tech to reduce the vibration, there are more factors that affect the life of a three cylinder and measures to be taken to improve the life, a three cylinder makes less power than a 4 cylinder, to compensate that a turbo charger is used to improve combustion and maximum power output
