Wish you the best of luck Pete withyou hay harvest. With the rapid rising costs of fuel hopefully your harvest will be bountiful. Here in West Virginia we can still get the died off road diesel. Which normally is what i get. In the scheme of things I use a lot less than most. I doubt if i used a total of 30 gallons last year. But im basically a weekend warrior and not so much of a farmer. My heart goes out to these Farmers and Truckers who depends on large quantities of fuel. Lord help them.

Separate pasture and hay fields? My theory from Rutland England:- Way back when grass was mown with hand wielded scythes instead a mechanical cutters this would have been the preferred method , hence the old farming folk law. My uncle told me that bowling greens were cut very close with scythes pre 1920.

Good video. In addition to the Iowa State t shirt, you had our specialty there at the end, pork. I love our Iowa chops here. I’m sure you’d be shocked at how inexpensive some of the cuts are here, at times when they’ve over produced. Bacon though has gone way up and stayed there. It wasn’t that long ago on sale a pound was 2.99. Now it’s at least 2 or 3 dollars more on sale. You must be popular with KZread. There are lots of ads, and at the beginning there are two and you can’t skip that first one. You deserve every penny you get. I do enjoy a good farm video😎

I live in the Sayre, Pa. area and we have dyed off road diesel at the pump at 3 or 4 locations. I filled two 6 gallons cans for $73 a couple of days ago. The off-road was $6.09 and the regular diesel I believe was $6.69 (didn't look at it to close). It's usually around .50 less per gallon. It looks like your reg. diesel is way cheaper than ours.

Sellarmusic: $0.60 a gallon tax for road diesel? Yep that's about what we pay here. There is a red diesel pump about 5 miles from me so I feed my compact tractor (only diesel I have) with the cheaper stuff. Only problem is that BidenFlation means that nothing is cheaper now days! Noticed that the Walmart about 30 miles away now has a red diesel pump(s). They renovated the whole facility last year and must have had a lot of demand for the red stuff.......

😉. My best friend in in highschool lived in the country and had a horse and pony. Across the road was a pasture for cows. She (my friend Lana) and her sister would go across the road and throw cow cookies (the dried manure) at each other. Or they would compete in seeing who could fling the cow cookies the furthest. 🤷🙂. Farm girls! 🤭. I learned from Lana that a cow cookie was dried cow manure or poop and a cow pat was wet. Oh well, so much for reminiscing. Have a great evening and holiday.

“Down the Hatch.. There Goes My Money”…. That’s how I feel every time I go to the grocery store anymore😂😂❣️❣️ I am sure I am not alone in that!!! I know we all know it’s coming and it’s already here as far as that goes but I am determined to make the best of the situation. Years ago I listen to my mom and dad talk about the depression and then there was the gas war when I was a young girl and they had these coupons they had to take to the gas station and my little sister was hoarding them every time daddy put them on the table she was about five and she would put them in her little coin purse… Then Christmas came and we Went to town, all 12 children, to by family Christmas gifts and I asked my little sister who I knew hoarded her money how much money she had, Expected her to say you know a dollar and a half and she said she had eight dollars and I said to my mom, “I’m going to shop with Cheryl”…We went around the nickel and dime store and found presents for everyone in the family and I was so excited until we got the cash register. While we were waiting in line I asked her to get her money out and Khalid advance to make sure she had enough and she said, “ I know I do! I know I do!” just like a little child and when she opened up her coin purse suddenly L pops all of daddy‘s gas coupons and he comes over to check to see what the commotion is and I just said oh honey we have to take back all of the presents and she begins to cry and dad is all excited because he’s got more cash coupons and he goes that’s where all of these coupons are gone and it was a mess and the five and 10 and we had to get out of line and daddy gave her some money out of his billfold in exchange for the gas coupons and we went back around and figured out what we were going to put back on the shelf and what we were going to do differently and We all chuckle about it clear to this day. I thought I’d share the story because I believe that we will all get through this. We can all remember hard times and good times. I can remember getting three or four cans of soup for a dollar when I was first married many years ago and I’m sure my parents can beat that except if they’re not around anymore to talk about it. We have to just keep each other encouraged through this Ebb & flow of economy! I really love your videos because you stay positive through everything. Your fields look really nice and I love watching you work on your equipment and I especially like it when you get out your grill and give us a new recipe or teachers something new. I love seeing your wife out in the field with you walking through the cattle in talking to them and petting them❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ Keep the videos coming and I’ll keep watching! God bless you both & hello to your Dad♥️♥️

The cows have accepted you both as members of their herd.....hence why they lick and nibble. Grooming behavior - they are going to "take care" of you as they do each other. The highest compliment a cow can give a human. On our family farm, Daddy's herd of big Herefords (including Curly the bull) followed him around everywhere when he was in the fields, even when he went through on the D-8. Oh awesome the new one is out?, I'll have to try it and see how I like it! I love that simulation and KZread is helping new farmers learn the equipment, methods and techniques, especially if you don't have land or someone to help guide.

@@nyksteger4247 yes the new one even has seasons so when it’s winter it snows and you can only harvest/plant in the months that, that crop is planted/harvested in real life.

Yeay a haying video coming finally! I anticipate your first cutting of the year now. I love your channel and Dexters, we're looking for a place between Binghamton, Utica and Cortland. I get to learn the calfing and growing cycle of the region from your videos. Thanks and

Your fields look great. The pork butt roast you cooked looks yummy. Very juicy and tender... just like we like it. Think of us when your family is enjoying it. Be well.

Always enjoy any video but hay cutting is extra relaxing for me. Since you have so much cutting, maybe an hour video or 2, 30 minute ones. Take care Pete.

Poop is important. On a different note, Carbohydrates are not important for humans - I stopped eating grits and grains and sugar, and I've lost 65 pounds over the last 11 months. I feel a lot better.

Fuel and feed prices are really putting a wrench in my expansion plans. I live in Hanmer, Ontario, Canada. $5.13 US(6.50cdn) for an American gallon of regular unleaded gas and $6.91 US(8.75cdn) for an American gallon of diesel. Feed is no slouch when it comes to price increases either having gone up 27% this year. A 55lbs bag of feed is now about $25 Canadian so about $20 US. Hoping the municipal tax rebate I will be getting next year for keeping bees on the farm will offset the skyrocketing inflation. I appreciate the knowledge and the laughs you share with us weekly.

I smoked nine pork butts two weeks ago at 300 degrees. After I bring them to 150-160 I seal them in foil pans to keep the ft drippings and throw them back in the grill until they reach 200 degrees then put them in a Yeti or Rtic cooler and let them continue cooking overnight. I learned this trick from my nephew the pit master. They are so hot when you take them out in the morning you have hard time using your hands to pull the pork apart.
