Don't be fooled with DIY lathes: the toolpost - DIY mini lathe part 10

Ғылым және технология

So I've built the toolpost for my DIY mini lathe for metals. It seemed an easy task, but as everything in this project I've got some setbacks. I hope you'll enjoy this video even though I had some failures in making what was supposed to be a relatively simple metalwork. Including some alchemy in trying to blackening the parts :)

I've had a good look at all of your episodes. And then I studied them one more time. I've been following several DIY lathe projects over the last month, but this one of yours is the best I've seen yet. You put so much time and precision into every big or small part that it is wonderful to know and to look at. It is therefore an honor for me to follow you, and I sincerely hope that when it is fully completed you will have achieved your goal (and I think your dream). Respect sir

I just thanked you today from my mobile phone but I wanted to come back now on my PC to be able to write more and better, because it is my honor to have kind people like you as followers and viewers. Thanks a lot for your kind words. Comments like yours pay back for the efforts required to make these videos. Greetings from the Alps, Robert. Claudio.

Yes, for you extremely high class music. Glad for the lack of verbage, yet entertainable information. Machines are hard still smooth (ie: smooth highest music, smooth presentation) makes balance. Energy and glory to you and as you think of The Higher Power.

I like the title of this video . . makes me laugh when I remember those indian/asian youtubers building a lathe in 5 minutes and more than 90% of the video all you see is welding sparks

Now you have a machine to build everything but first concrete/granite workbench (make it big and solid, you won't regret it) then next will be milling machine with the help of the lathe which will be a much easier job or maybe a shaper that will help in flatness and make precision of other machines easy

To insert screw tight, without weld and easy to change in future, try make morse hole and turn morse on the Hex tip of the screw.

The lathe is becoming great. Can't wait to see it running all finished. Just a curiosity, are you from Italy? Because I saw the yogurt of "Sterzing Vipiteno", i really like that brand 😂.

Yeah I like that brand too, but that wasn't meant as product placement. You can't really guess where one lives from product's brands, as in EU/EEA you find products from all over the EU in every supermarket. I live close to that area, a little bit further south. Thanks for commenting.

LOL I noticed right now I did a typo, reading about accuracy I should have thought at the flatness and wrote "flattening" in place of "flattering" :)

Indeed! I visited the Musee des Arts et Métrirs in Paris where some of the very first machine tools are exposed, and in particular the very first precision lathe for metals made by Jacques de Vaucanson (...I had to look online for the exact spelling LOL). In the case you had the chance to visit Paris, that is a destination I couldn't recommend more.
