Pure joy from my childhood! I had a Fireball XL5 toy that I used to explore the galaxy. I’m 67 years old, now, and my heart is still floating around out there and wanting to, ever so badly, make contact with an extraterrestrial intelligence.

This takes me to my happy place when I was a kid. This show ALWAYS brings a smile to my face.

This takes me back 60 years. A much better more innocent time. Fireball XL5 still magical, and what a fab theme tune. Wow the memories. Great times.

Just discovered that Don Spencer is still active and performing in his native Australia. He has a lovely voice-I loved this song then (and now.)

I just bought the entire series on DVD-- and binged -- it was glorious fun !

I too have the series on DVD. I had never seen it before so it was brand new to me. 25 or 30 years ago somebody wrote in to the TV magazine asking to help them recall an obscure TV show. The reply was Fireball XL5. I was intrigued. Then I acquired a TV's greatest hits record. It had the theme song. I was intrigued. Then many years later I found the series on Amazon. I bought it. Glad I did.

Back when kids were kids, and imagination ruled. Watched this show as a kid in the 1960's.

From simpler and happier times; great nostalgia.....

Just played this in my car through the Bluetooth, blasted it several times, really great sound quality! I was screaming all the words, love it 👍🍻

This seems like a million years ago. What a different place this was! I always loved this song.

60 years old but still great to watch, the first TV programme I can remember seeing even thorough I was only it stuck with me all these years still brilliant!!

Such a beautiful song! For those of you who don't, Don Spencer is an Australian children's performer and usually sings songs about Australia, or an Australian animal. He was also a long running presenter on both the British and Australian versions of the children's show Play School. And in addition to that, he was the Father In Law of Russel Crowe.

Brings back great memories. I always wondered whose job it was to go out and fetch the undercarriage/bogie that was left behind when XL5 took off.

I was very very young when this was on TV. I had completely forgotten about this. Thanks for reminding me of its existence. Puppet based entertainment is something I just vaguely remember.

The recessed lighting is the icing on the cake that still gives this song a futuristic feel and look.

This song made it into the UK charts ! Love the robot on drums LOL 😀

I take it you mean that all Gerry Anderson's theme tunes were great, not that nothing else of his was any good. You can thank Barry Gray for the theme tunes.

President Kennedy was assassinated on a Friday. That evening, upon seeing all the TV coverage of that very sad event, I became worried that Fireball xl5 wouldn't be on the next morning, which turned out to be correct. That was my loss of innocence.

President Kennedy was assassinated Friday 22 November 1963 the next day Saturday November 23 first shown of Dr Who.

Many moons ago (pun intended). I would wake my parents my at 5am on Saturday morning with the words... "Is it on yet?" "No...but you can go down stairs and turn on the TV." said Mom. "Why are you up?" Dad would ask. But he knew. They both knew. "Fireball XL5, may I?" "Keep the TV down until it comes on." And this is how I started Saturday's, waiting for Fireball XL5.... 60 years ago. Now when I can't sleep, I'll get on Amazon Prime and catch an episode or three. Fireball XL5 is still a fun watch.🙂😉

Children today wouldn’t understand having to plug the telly in each morning , as advice was to unplug each night, then turning it on 10 minutes before you needed it, to let it ‘warm up’

I first heard this theme song on a TV theme song record. I wanted more. I bought the Fireball XL5 series on DVD. I wrote to Don Spencer, but he didn't write back.

I never realized before that much Star Trek was based on this show- and Fireball xl5 has the better theme song!

Yes, at the beginning of "Spider" iirc. In fact, that was where I first heard this song, not knowing at the time it was from a real 1960's TV show LOL. Being just a toddler when Thunderbirds came out, I totally missed out on Fireball XL5 and only discovered Thunderbirds in my mid 50's when an episode aired on Comet TV. Hubby (who's 5 years older than me) had seen Thunderbirds are Go as a child and knew about the series. I was intrigued and got the entire series plus both movies on DVD and fell in love with Thunderbirds. Although I didn't grow up on Gerry Anderson shows, hearing the themes and watching them now still takes me back to the happy, simpler days of childhood in the 60's & 70's 😄
