@charlesrenfro-3842 Yes, when everything was normal and the “Wokeness” was never shoved down our throat.
This is so funny like 40 yrs later. Comedy like this would make the current world crap itself. But it funny as hell cause everybody gets picked on.
I remember sneaking out, to the end of the hallway, just to watch the Dean Martin roasts… Back when they were live…
I loved when Don Rickles laughed! It was so infectious!
Classic and funny! When people could make a joke and take a joke. A time we will never see again.
Don Rickles played a joke on Frank Sinatra once. He asked Sinatra if he would come over to a table later on in a restaurant where Rickles would be talking to a female. Sinatra went to the table and greeted Rickles and Rickles said, "Not now Frank, can't you see I'm with somebody." Sinatra was amused and would relate the story from to time.
Man, I used to watch these with my dad on VHS all the time.
What a collection of talent on that stage
Love watching the greats of all the greatest! They don’t make them like this any! To bad the young will never know!
Muito obrigado..., mesmo!!! Continue a traduzir as roasts do Rickles, por favor! Gênio!
Why don’t we have “Roasts” anymore? I guess cuz we don’t have this kind of talent!
The true mark of a genius is that if you watch his act multiple times (as I have !) you laugh as much the first time as the 100th time . . . . . . I switch to Don Rickels whenever I need a good laugh. Love this guy ! ! !
"Roçando ombros" é bom! kkk Don Rickles impagável! Esse era do ramo! Valeu por mais essa jóia Bernardo, agora traduzido! 👏👏👏
This was real comedy. Not like the junk they have on today,
No one else would be able to get away with it…Frank loved him!

Don Rickles got away with ALOTTA slightly racist jokes BUT the main reason he got away with it is he picked on every different race EQUALLY and WITH LOVE .
@mikeggg5671
Жыл бұрын
To be fair, they were not slightly racist, they were blatantly an obviously stereotypical and loud. But that is exactly why they were funny. Because we were making fun of stereotypes that we knew were not universally true. At least we know that now. And, as you said, he made fun of everyone. But when the jokes were done he brought it back down and said how he truly felt and I think that he actually loved everyone.

It's funny, I am sixty, been watching all of these greats since seven or eight years old, my dad got me into these guys. That's when comedy was comedy. They were all friends off stage as well. No harm intended towards any race, just fun. Here we are in 2023, and I still model my comedy on Don, because everyone says, the stuff you come up with on the spot is amazing. As sensitive as people are today, when I get off stage at a club, they come up to me, not with a gun, but hugging me and telling me that was funny, have not laughed like that for a long time. That's when I know I did my job and did it well. Life is too short to be sensitive about a joke and I finally found out what the old adage life is too short.meant when it happened to me on 12/23/22, my eighty year old dad, left this earth, for hopefully what they say, a better place. In going on month number seven now,07/03/23, You never get over it, but you have to keep moving forward, but I will tell all of you across the world who read this, every single morning without missing a morning, I open my eyes and out loud say, I can't believe my dad is not here anymore. I truly love writing replies and giving my opinions on you tube, because I am a people person, but another reason and saying is quite true, especially for me, most of us comedians make people laugh and we laugh as well on the outside, but I am truly crying like a newborn on the inside and I am going to ask my doctor for a referral to a good therapist to talk to before I do go from not a broken heart, but one that has been pulverized into a pile of powder. Love you all and treasure every day with your loved ones and don't be afraid to say, I love you.
No one Dared to say stuff about Frank being in the mob etc. No one else would even think about saying any thing about Frank and the mob but Don Rickles

Exactly why there is absolutely no question that Frank Loved Dons humor! I mean in the beginning of the roast he says Frank I know you don’t want to hear it but it’s all over Frank! What an epic performance by all of Franks friends who roasted him for laughs without being disrespectful because they Loved him and he loved them! Don was undoubtedly in a class of his own but his humility and sincerity and Love for Frank was shown with his sincere loving words and the end of his skit!
When we still knew how to laugh. Don Rickles was a legend who laughed at himself as much as others. Thanks for posting this, it's amazing!

Love those videos, just bad we don’t have them any longer. So sad.
Gets me everytime, when his humour stops, and his love pours out for Frank. Always in his corner. That whole stage gone. What great people they were.
I think Dean Martin stopped breathing for about 2 minutes he was laughing so hard 😂😂😂
Back when tv and comedy was real and funny.
Back when our country had a backbone
I see many people saying "This is great! Remember when we could laugh at these jokes?" Laughter is the one thing you can hang onto until the end. It is a magic power you don't even know you have.

Dean was a very devoted family man. When he wasn't making movies or doing singing gigs or his show or roast, he loved spending time with his 8 children (7 over two marriages and 1 adopted during a third). Edit: corrected to put Dean, not Frank.

oh those roasts wow amazing actors and singers
Sinatra was a class act from his earliest years; he was loyal to his friends and would go to the mat with anyone who offended one of them. Rickles was consistent and worked hard at his craft; it took me a long time to understand his humor, but when you add absurdity and facetiousness to the love he exuded in real life, one could begin to understand why what he did worked. Great clip. Thanks! (You hockey puck. LMAO.)
It was a badge of honor to be insulted by Rickles. Only Rickles coulda gotten away with this. Bob Newhart was asked why he and Rickles were best friends. Newhart replied, "Someone has to be." (paraphrasing)
Don's genius was that he did it to everybody. Nobody was beyond approach. So since he didn't discriminate, that meant everyone could accept it. A random person focusing JUST on Frank, probably would have regretted it.
Don Rickles is a one a kind.

What people don't realize is that Don Rickles was doing Archie Bunker, before Norman Lear invented Archie Bunker. Making fun of racism and racists, to show how dead in the head it is and they are, makes a very important point. Because it's all silly and takes up too much time of the time we mortals are given to live.
