Don Rickles played a joke on Frank Sinatra once. He asked Sinatra if he would come over to a table later on in a restaurant where Rickles would be talking to a female. Sinatra went to the table and greeted Rickles and Rickles said, "Not now Frank, can't you see I'm with somebody." Sinatra was amused and would relate the story from to time.

  • @mikeggg5671

To be fair, they were not slightly racist, they were blatantly an obviously stereotypical and loud. But that is exactly why they were funny. Because we were making fun of stereotypes that we knew were not universally true. At least we know that now. And, as you said, he made fun of everyone. But when the jokes were done he brought it back down and said how he truly felt and I think that he actually loved everyone.

It's funny, I am sixty, been watching all of these greats since seven or eight years old, my dad got me into these guys. That's when comedy was comedy. They were all friends off stage as well. No harm intended towards any race, just fun. Here we are in 2023, and I still model my comedy on Don, because everyone says, the stuff you come up with on the spot is amazing. As sensitive as people are today, when I get off stage at a club, they come up to me, not with a gun, but hugging me and telling me that was funny, have not laughed like that for a long time. That's when I know I did my job and did it well. Life is too short to be sensitive about a joke and I finally found out what the old adage life is too short.meant when it happened to me on 12/23/22, my eighty year old dad, left this earth, for hopefully what they say, a better place. In going on month number seven now,07/03/23, You never get over it, but you have to keep moving forward, but I will tell all of you across the world who read this, every single morning without missing a morning, I open my eyes and out loud say, I can't believe my dad is not here anymore. I truly love writing replies and giving my opinions on you tube, because I am a people person, but another reason and saying is quite true, especially for me, most of us comedians make people laugh and we laugh as well on the outside, but I am truly crying like a newborn on the inside and I am going to ask my doctor for a referral to a good therapist to talk to before I do go from not a broken heart, but one that has been pulverized into a pile of powder. Love you all and treasure every day with your loved ones and don't be afraid to say, I love you.

Exactly why there is absolutely no question that Frank Loved Dons humor! I mean in the beginning of the roast he says Frank I know you don’t want to hear it but it’s all over Frank! What an epic performance by all of Franks friends who roasted him for laughs without being disrespectful because they Loved him and he loved them! Don was undoubtedly in a class of his own but his humility and sincerity and Love for Frank was shown with his sincere loving words and the end of his skit!

Sinatra was a class act from his earliest years; he was loyal to his friends and would go to the mat with anyone who offended one of them. Rickles was consistent and worked hard at his craft; it took me a long time to understand his humor, but when you add absurdity and facetiousness to the love he exuded in real life, one could begin to understand why what he did worked. Great clip. Thanks! (You hockey puck. LMAO.)
