The wittiness never left this man.

Letterman, Ferguson, and Kimmel all very clearly loved Don. I have noticed when Don would come on in his later years all three would without hesitation hold his hand to help him to his seat. That's downright familial.

That was a great interview..craig went toe to toe ..with a legend..don loved it ..before the white came there were casinos as fare as the eyes could see...classic

Don Rickles is an obvious legend and is missed but has sooo many years and content to watch. Craig Ferguson is funny AF and is sorely missed in US late night and did not stick around on US late night for whatever reason but he was a breath of fresh air in the biz and I miss him! Side note: Notice how Craig ripped up his cards at the beginning of the interview, knowing they would not be needed for Don ;).

love how craig actually engages him. Carson, Letterman, etc would just let him loose. Craig actually traded barbs.

Not the crowd. It's Don. Some people have that kind of magic. He brought purple together and let (made) everyone...everyone! Laugh at themselves. It would be so awkward to take something seriously in that room. He made 2D... 3D. He's so lovable.

Of course they were there to see the best late night show at the time.

Arguably the last time we got to see the "old" Don Rickles work his magic on a talkshow. Two weeks after this show, Don's son Larry would die at 41, he never fully recovered from that loss (how could you, really?). After that, Don was infected by a flesh eating bacteria that almost cost him a leg and his life, forcing him to use a cane or a wheelchair. Still, he kept performing and making us laugh.

George Daugherty Don first appeared on the scene in the 1960s, aided and abetted by the likes of Sinatra, Dean Martin and Johnny Carson, at a time before the phrase ‘political correctness’ had even been invented.

Don Rickles really was a WW 2 vet & was working in stand up comedy in late 1940's. Don Rickles acted in a few 1948 & 1949 movies, but he was working steady through the 1950's.

@@Flantomas, I think it stopped in the late 80's, early 90's. Maybe before. But before that jokes flowed pretty easily back and forth. A lot of Rickles humor was common. You could treat people as individuals and still joke with them. For a while blacks and hispanics would joke back and forth even in the 2000's but I don't see much of that anymore either.

@@thanksfernuthin I think theres a misunderstanding there, well crafted comedy, regardless of topic is still acceptable, Ive seen shows with topics of racism, rape, murder, child abuse, etc. and it was great, all shows from the 2000´s or newer. The jokes that people protest are the ones that encourage a division or hate towards the other. The later cant be condoned, and I think its a step forward in the right direction when people call them out. A lot of the people complaining about PC culture fit into that cathegory, people who are angry becaue they cant spread hate ideologies in mass media without being called hate peddlers. And I lived through the 80s and 90s, it wasnt a paradise.

Can a white person make a joke about someone's dreadlocks without being called worse than Hitler? I don't think so. If that kind of fear enriches your life then I'm sorry for you.

Don complains that he only got 5 minutes after absolutely killing for 15 minutes! He is gone now and there will never be another Don Rickles for one minute. RIP to the best Insult/Roast Comic of all time. I am so glad that he stuck around as long and was able to perform as well as he did. Comedy roasts existed before him but would not have become what they are without him.
