Don Julio Tequila needs zero introduction. The Don Julio Ultima Reserva I review here is made from founder Don Julio Gonzalez's FINAL agave harvest in 2006. As always, Tequila Tales provides the story, the tasting notes, and a little bit of fun along the way.
About Don Julio Ultima Extra Anejo Tequila
This is a limited release (in 2021 there were 4,000 cases sparingly made) tequila that is a sipping tequila in the elite Extra Anejo category. As mentioned, the heart and soul of this Don Julio tequila is the final agave harvest planted by Don Julio Gonzalez and his family. Don Julio implemented a Solera aging system (which combines and matures tequilas of different characteristics in unique casks).
The Don Julio Ultima is rested in oak barrels that were previously used to age bourbon, and then the Ultima Reserva is finished in Madeira wine seasoned barrels. The end result is a smooth, crisp extra anejo tequila made by the iconic Don Julio tequila brand.
