The young man who said, "I don't want to (become a Christian)," said this because He couldn't. The Holy Spirit did not empower him to be born again.

The Holy Spirit empowers the heart who is willing. He won’t override that. Free will of men still stands. The speaker was emphasizing Faith, the younger man was still not willing to believe (have faith as small as a mustard seed) his knowledge in all his philosophical books puffed him up.
