The Hippo was designed for a project that never materialized.

The construction is so light, so much control.. I draw like a caveman with a burnt stick!

Thank you so much for this, Don, and for sharing your expertise with new animators. I love that you're doing that, it's great to have the advice of such a veteran.

Thanks for posting this, I love seeing a fellow artist at work with a drawing. I think the reason we artist turn animals in to human is because we love to see what kind of character we can make form it, and give it a personality we can relate to, Plush animals are fun to draw. Thats pretty much what I do when I created and animal characters.

I think artists turn animals into humans because it's simply fun. I'm sure drawing and animating mrs. brisby was lots of fun.

A cowboy painting hippo... That's a pretty eccentric looking character. It would've been neat to see him in one of your movies. He should be right up there with that big lipped alligator from All Dogs Go to Heaven! What equipment do you use to hold the camera over your drawing board? I'd like to do some drawing tutorials myself.
