Domino World 2020: Machine 2 Close-Up

Ойын-сауық

Despite Domino World being unable to occur regularly this year due to current events, we were able to do a substitute online event in its place. Here is a close-up of the machine I built for the event.

Out of all four machines this year, you certainly have the best grasp on what would work best for an (imaginary) live audience. All your tricks are big and very visually pleasing (and audio-ly pleasing!) I especially loved the gear bounce! It's so tough these days to think of a gear motion that feels entirely new. Most gear-related innovations have resulted from treating the gear like a free-moving object, which can be very risky to incorporate into a "live event" machine. Seems like you pulled it off, though! That's an idea that I wish I had thought of. I'll always be impressed by the sheer speed at which you're able to build your machines, and how reliable they end up being. Because of that reliability, you have the luxury of grinding out tests until you get one that's completely perfect. It's so nice when you don't have to settle for slight imperfections because "that's the best take I'm gonna get!"

The Bouncing Gear Trick Was Amazing. And Even My Favorite.

Such a good machine this year. I am in awe at the gear bouncing trick! You didn't even need any barriers to stop its forward motion, and it still stays perfectly upright, lands between two smaller gears that aren't even that far apart, and rotates again? That's amazing velocity control. For the next trick, I kind of have a soft spot for zigzag board tricks - like, all the tracks are right there to change their pathing or something in some intricate way. The motion you did was sharp and clean and fits very well into the machine. You also ended this machine in the best way possible, I live for destruction like that!

Such clean and innovative tricks! I'm personally partial to tricks that take advantage of quirks of physics (tracks pushing each other away while keeping their center of mass in the same spot, for example ;) ) but the gear bounce??! _Wow._ That was a clean and snazzy trick, for sure, and quite ambitious. You killed it, my dude

Ya that gear bounce is definitely my favorite trick in the machine. Although I did enjoy the zig-zag auto tilt and the falling tracks at 0:35. The launching cups trick was also pretty chaotic but at the same time satisfying (I like to imagine the audiences reaction to that trick if it were at a live event XD). Also some of the angles in the screen link version looked really good. Once again a really well put together machine from you! (1:29 same lol)

You definitely have one of my favorite live event machine styles, and I'm sure for the casual viewer that would be the case as well. You make in my opinion the best tricks for these events, nothing too complex but certainly breathtaking and visually stunning, not to say that there isn't anything complex in here as I LOVE the falling tracks at 0:34 and obviously the mechanisms on the gear bounce. Which the gear bounce is in my top 5 tricks of the year I looooove it some much. Also I gotta give a shoutout to the zig zag board that straightens out and tilts, I was not expecting that it was a big surprise to me. Amazing job as always and can't wait to see your next fully fledged project :)

o k a y c o m m e n t t i m e Okay not even kidding, this has gotta be one of my favorite machines that you have built because this is PERFECT. WOW. Everything is so aesthetically pleasing, and it's clear that you look to go beyond the technical side of machines and approach building with a sense of beauty in both sight and sound. because of course this looks great Overall, amazing job. What I really admire about your style is your ability to see machines as works of art and appeal to not only the engineer inside of me but also the guy who just want to be entertained by something that looks and sounds so pleasing. Domino World would not be the same without you in it.
