This is a Dominons 6 Deep Dive going over the available blood magic in battle and what they're useful for. This will be part of a new series that will dive into a specific topic of the game in more detail than a quick tip. Dominions 6 is a turn based 4x strategy game suitable for both play vs AI, player vs player. Team play vs AI or players also works great as everyone can do their turns at once. The game has a huge variety of units, spells, magic items and different nations to play.

    4:30 It's worth noting for Agony that "1 damage" is actually "1+2d6 damage" where the enemy gets no Prot roll since it's AN so it's a serious threat to human-level HP. (there's a unit that does this too)

    Nope, the enemy still get a 2d6 (exploding die) protection roll to resist the damage, so the damage can be everything between 0 and a lot but will mostly be 0-10 with about 40% of hits being no damage Armor negating just sets your protection to 0, it don't remove your protection roll.

    Thanks. I learned that Agony and Blood Rain can be very useful. Failed morale rolls (from the Fear) can change whole battles. I will also try out Impageddon. I like the silly sounds the imps make. :)

    Morale plays are very effective for reducing the numbers of enemies you actually have to fight, making them very useful! Impageddon is something you need to try out at least once, even if just to laugh at!

    Great video, really concise as always which is so appreciated. I recently watched GeneralConfusionPlays video on non-national blood magic (for dom 5) and it was great but far less structured and clear than this video. Thanks again for the content!

    Okay this was really useful. I was wondering what the deal is with Blood magic and this makes more sense now. How do you get the "blood slaves" then? you just got hutning for them and then you get them as units? And whats the difference with Chorus slaves? And what do those even mean then? I thought Chorus slaves are the blood source units.

    Yes. Bloodhunt on provinces and they behave like gems on the UI, and they stand near the mage in battles.

    As the others have mentioned, I do also have a blood slave gathering video, I'll put it in the description so it's easier for those watching to see. As far as blood magic goes you have blood slaves, which are effectively your blood "gems" as it were that become units on the battlefield after you give them to a commander's infantry, while sabbath slaves are mages casting the sabbath slave spell or having slave hearts in their inventory. Reviewing the video I do notice that sometimes I am saying just "slave" so I can understand the confusion and that's a mistake on my part, best way around it is if I'm talking about fatigue, positioning or other things effecting "slaves" I'm most likely referring to sabbath slaves rather than blood slaves.     Thanks for the explanation, very helpful. Can you go into detail on blood mage spacing to use slaves attached to other mages? Im thinking specifically for abysia since their heat abilify will kill slaves attached to their guys.

    Glad you found it useful! Sure thing, I'll add it onto the list of videos to do to go over it in more detail, in the meantime from my own testing I've had mages grab others blood slaves 5 or 6 tiles away from themselves, so that should let you keep them out of the heat aura of your warlocks, just be careful of your other troops! If you wanted to as well, casting a small aoe fire resistance just to keep them alive could also work as well!

    @@ChazzyBurger ohh good advice on the fire resistance, I wasn't sure if it would target the right units, will it prioritise them over others as they don't have protection. Is each individual location you can set up the units a tile?, i wasn't sure how it represents it in game so that would be really useful to understand

    Feel like Blood is a bit overrated by the community - it's a great path with great spells, but especially in dom6 it requires you to not only research a whole other path but spend mage turns collecting slaves - people discuss how well XYZ nation can scale with blood but there are tradeoffs and costs, it's not an 'instant win lategame' button. Still a really fun path, i love putting hearts of life on all my mages and spamming illearths

    Blood has taken a hit in a few ways in Dominions 6 for sure, it's far harder for lower level blood mages to collect slaves so you either need more of them or have less slaves for use for spells and forging. In other ways it's slightly easier to have potential blood slaves provinces with the increase in population, the main issue is the micro for collecting them now I think! I've always loved blood magic in the game but I do agree it isn't the lategame juggernaut it once was, still quite good especially on nations that do have easy access to blood mages but it won't be the be all end all of the late game anymore.

    There are certain ritual spells that are great in blood, being able to summon vampires and powerful daemons later on can be oppressive if used well. Blood fecundity basically reverses a lot of the economic damage blood hunting does. Then you have crossbreeding for fun times, there's "rejuvenate" which reduces the age of the mage who casts it, great for those mages that come with the old-age tag. Storm daemons are fantastic now that they use fatigue to cast their lightning ranged attacks. (along with fire/frost drakes+other breath weapons). A lot of decent summons in blood can be used to help fill a variety of niche situations that nations otherwise wouldn't be able to handle. The blood magic items are fantastic anti-thug options. Heart-finder sword has soul slay attached which can kill even immortal creatures, flesh eater inflicts chest wounds. So they're very capable of downing powerful thugs. It's just so damn versatible you'd be daft not to use some of it's tools if you're able to.

    @@Madhattersinjeans It's also notable that you can choose to go out and get more Slaves which is not something you can generally do for Gems (there are some limited Globals that directly give you income but otherwise you're at the mercy of site searching).

    Are horrors counted as a third party? If so you could have fun combining summoned horrors with vortex of returning and battlewide wipes for longer durations without sacrificing too many mages. Also, I'm curious how you ended up pronouncing Kokytos as Kyoktos. No offence intended, just curious about how brains get to be where they are at any moment. :)

    So the issue with returning is if I recall correctly the spell will end when the mage leaves the battle or is killed, otherwise that is a good strat. As far as the horrors are concerned they will continue to fight after the battle is ended and can do some real damage to your opponent, I'll potentiality post a follow up video to this to show what I mean! As for the pronunciation, just call me stupid! In all honestly it's trying to talk rapidly and trying to read a word quickly, I didn't even notice I said it wrong until you mentioned it!

    If you use "hellbomb". Why not use "Returning" or "Rings of returning" and left some minor comanders to look at masacre ?

    You certainly can do, but the spell returning is caster, so casting it with your master will also take away all your slaves! You're relying on your mages to be on the field to summon the horrors, they're being drawn to them. Rings of returning are a better idea if you want to go down that path, but your commanders can be instantly deleted by the horrors before the ring goes off, so it could be quite costly in gems to do it.
