With Absinthe, his second release for ECM, guitarist Dominic Miller has created an album colored by a distinct atmosphere. “The first thing that came to me before I wrote any tunes was the title,” he says. “Living in the South of France, I am fascinated by Impressionism. Sharp light and witchy mistrals, combined with strong alcohol and intense hangovers must have driven some of these artists toward insanity. Skies that are green, faces blue, perspective distorted.” While Miller’s ECM debut, Silent Light, emphasized intimacy in solo and duo settings, Absinthe finds the guitarist fronting a quintet that brings his ever-lyrical compositions to textured life. Miller, switching between nylon- and steel-string acoustic guitars, has a key harmonic-melodic foil in the bandoneon of Santiago Arias. The vivid presence at the drum kit is Manu Katché, an ECM veteran and for years a colleague with Miller in the band of Sting (whom the guitarist has accompanied now for three decades). Mike Lindup’s keyboard tones add a ghostly air to such highlights as the title track, while bassist Nicholas Fiszman roots the sound. As for Miller, JazzTimes described him as a guitarist who “milks every note, thriving on the pauses between them and whispery effects of fingers sliding across strings,” while Stereophile agreed, declaring that “his ability to express emotion through a guitar is amazing to hear.”

Here we go again? I stumbled and fell onto this beautiful track. Wow, the connection between sound, humans and movement. The Choreography is some of the best I've seen lately. (For free, of course!) I am about to embark upon a journey of discovery of this artist's music.
yea well. Only here because I watched some video with you and Sting - some guitar guru that fb seems to think I want to see. Well, thankfully, I Do want to see You(r sort). I mean - actual Musician? Lasted for 20-30 years in Our 'climate'(for artists anywhere?). ok And I find your music pulling and attracting and basically doing all the things I want it to do. That is...being music. Thank- you. Sting actually took a 16-bar clip (2'21 to 2'34) from this "ETUDE" to create his song "HARMONY ROAD" (new album 'The Bridge' 2021). He also did for two others songs from 'The Bridge' album. Many Dominic Miller tracks inspired Sting who just added lyrics and arranged them into songs. What a creative team!
Hi, Dominic. This is beautifuly done! And, this is nice finger-breaker! I like this new piece, I tried to find it complete on my guitar, but it goes so slowly...It would be really nice, to have sheet or tab, I think I am not alone who would like to buy it on your web site, Dominic..! What do you think? Anyway, very nice record, beautiful(!) video with such a muse (I mean Coline:-) trying to get you out of concentration...

But it's good news for many guitarists, including me, that Dom listened to us and released a songbook! I found a lot of those songs myself by ear, so I'm curious to compare ..!

Dominic playing Sting's songs = A+ Unfortunately, the talent for being able to to REPRODUCE music beautifully is not the same as the talent for CREATING it (Even with great skills on guitar, excellent visual effects, combined with winning entry combinations... it simply becomes one of those "background musical elements". We all have talents and limits. It is a wisdom to recognise them, be grateful for them and make the most out of them. This is a bit sad attempt.

it is OK...... all is well although sometimes good to listen and have your own imagination inspired a bit like reading a book before seeing the movie 😉
