Plot:
A woman sets out to reclaim her life in this stirring, emotionally rich look at what it means to start over. Tara (Arterton), a housewife and mother in suburban London, is living a life that is no longer hers: it belongs to her loving but overworked and self-absorbed husband (Cooper), her young son and daughter and the numbing routine of housework and childcare. In desperate need of a change, Tara one day makes a bold decision. Armed with a one-way ticket to Paris, she leaves everything behind to rediscover herself in a new city - but walking out on your life isn't so simple
The Escape is out in the UK on the 3rd of August.

Dominic did a great job in this movie. It’s definitely Gemma’s film but he did well to hold his own and gave a really nuanced performance different to his other roles

It’s so clear in the film that he’s not connecting with her or concerned about her emotional world. He cares a lot on one hand but is kind of emotionally lazy. But at the same time, Tara has not expressed her true feelings and hid them so so long that she hasn’t given him much opportunity to see her real ness.

Yes to all of this!!!! I thought they showed this so well. Ultimately a fast chunk of his concern is centred around his own self interest - a desire to retain the family he has constructed and by society standards is a success. I think he’s also aware he’s a bit out of his league intellectually and wants to hold on to her for that reason too. However even as a sympathised with her i sympathised with him too as she is so shut off and doesn’t appear to want to give him a chance to know the full her. I loved how they showed him resorting to violence and using his male physical dominance to try and keep her in the house as nothing else was strong enough to keep her. Touched on a lot of patriarchal themes well.
