The Gateway Dirt Nationals aka the Dome, the excitement and atmosphere is like no other dirt track or event. It's Night 1 of #DirtinDecember!
The Dome is an insane fan event, a celebration of dirt racing that we love to attend. It is wide open, no bars racing. What can we say, the little bullring is not for everyone - it's only 1/5 mile long oval, but 144 late models showed up for battle. Our night 1 went really well, which set us up great for the Saturday preliminary heats.
Jason went out last in the second qualifying group on night 1 and ended up third, putting him on the pole of the sixth heat with Shannon Babb on the outside.
Through Heats 1 - Heat 5 the track was bottom dominant. The top typically starts coming in Heat 4 or 5. Unfortunately for us, a significant amount of water was placed on the top to help keep dust down. Now, if we’d been on the outside, we would have been jumping for joy, but since Jason started on the bottom with one of the best top runners in the country on the outside, not so much. In true Babb fashion, Shannon pounded the top for the win in the heat with Jason coming in second.
The difference between winning the heat and finishing second, was starting third vs starting 12th.

What did you do put a space under the carburetor to slow the fuel down to make less power

We ended up bolting the smaller carb on for the qualifier/heat race. We felt that it took too much away when trying to roll the bottom.
