It was Halloween, 1985. I was very young, I was driving very fast, listening to "Unchain the Night" over and over on cassette - speeding through Hollywood in my 1976 AMX Javlin. I was going to a Halloween party, where, unknown to me, I would see my "ex" with a new boy friend... already! "OUCH!!"We had just broken up. I was so very, very, mad, and I was so very, very, heart broken. Yep… I had just broken-up & I had my heart broken (and really mega BROKEN BAD) for the very first time. I count this awesome rock music by Dokken as one of the few precious things that held my brain together and got me through that "learning and growing emotional experience" …. in one piece ...and not having committed an act of violence and ending up in jail. Thank you DOKKEN, you may have saved my life from going down a very bad road.

Absolutely! What he laid down back in the day was more than amazing. it was startling. The guy was, and still is.... one of the all-time bad-asses in rock and roll history. This stuff is on another level. It was then. And it still is. My 2 favorite Dokken songs - In My Dreams... and this tune. Always loved Unchain The Night. How they could be so melodic, yet so hard and blazing all at the same time. Just unbelievable!

The format and sound of this song is very close to a song that was released 2 years before this one titled "Screaming in the night" by Krokus which was a hit for them. The riff a little different and the turnaround notes the same but played in a different order. Also the interlude before the solo is a nearly perfect match. The opening guitar piece while played with different notes is the same format, and obviously the title similarities. Dokken did this a lot. Where is the creativity? BTW, He used the same riff only as a shuffle and a slightly faster tempo for wicked sensation. "what writing? "Just do what everybody else is doing, maybe we can get signed too" Monkey see, monkey do. That's why they now live hand to mouth.
