Doing the initial engine and oil break in on my brand new Westinghouse Wgen9500DF generator.

I recently bought a new generator for my house. This is how I do the initial break in on the engine and oil. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for posting the video Korey. I bought this exact same generator last year. We`ve had to use ours a few times since last summer when we lost power in a few storms. I can`t say enough good things about ours. It runs most of our house, including the freezer in the garage. We run ours on propane because i don`t want to deal with gas and cleaning it out for storage when we`re not using it. I`ll be changing the oil in ours over the weekend so that its ready to go when we need it again. All i can say is, money well spent. I did all the electrical gen hook up`s to the main panel my self. I keep our generator in the garage, exhaust gets vented to the outside. I have a 15ft 50A quick connect cable that plugs right into the gen inlet box, and a breaker lockout on the mains. Hit that remote start, she`s runnin beautiful. After all the reviews i read, this was the right generator for us.

That’s awesome man! I definitely would love to be able to plumb it all from the inside of the garage, but I need the space more often than not and I’m moving them around fairly regularly haha. Eventually I’ll make a small shed outside to keep it in, safe from the elements and locked up. The generator is absolutely a powerhouse and is the perfect portable whole home generator in my opinion as well. If I had a propane hookup I’d probably run it off propane in order to keep the carbs from getting gummed up, but I’ll just keep running it every couple weeks to try and combat that. Thanks for the comment man!

Even though it’s vented outside, that can be very dangerous if something went wrong with the exhaust venting. Especially if your garage is attached obviously. I’d really consider if it’s really worth it.

I got this same generator a year ago, and am just now getting it up and running. Working great. Quieter than I expected. When it's running I can barely hear it inside the house. I'm using gas now, but the propane option is interesting. My next step is to set up this generator in a permanent spot outside in a shed/doghouse, and make it as easy as possible to activate it during an outage.

It's funny but I got exactly same generator on Amazon 2 years ago, and like yours mine was damaged, mine badly, with crooked frame and busted stepper motor on its carburetor. The odd part was, that the shipping box didn't have even a sign of damage on the exterior, not even a dent, but damage on the generator was substantial. I'm guessing it was damaged at the factory, packaged and shipped from China anyway, but it's just my speculation. Amazon refunded my money and now Im trying to find youtube videos with stepper motor close ups particularly, as mine has completely missing those parts. Thanks for the great review!

I bought this gen and just started it today on propane. The manual says to make sure the Eco Mode Switch is turned off, but I don't see a switch for that anywhere, is there one? I also checked the outlets and one of the 110 isn't working. The other is and the 30 amp outlet works, so what could be the problem? I tried pushing the small button at the bottom of the outlet, but nothing changes. I have contacted Westinghouse and was told they would contact me in two days.

I probably over did breaking in mine (Champion 11,500) I did the 1 hr, 2 hr, 4 hr, 8 hour, 16 hr, 32 hr break in on oil changes (that includes using it during power outages). I put STP in the spark plug hole before I first ran it (and pulled it through 10 times before starting it) to lube the cyl. walls. I use VR1 racing oil in it and Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas. Kind of in the same boat as you were, ordered it on Amazon, ran it for to break it in, changed the oil, week later power outage happened, turned it on to use it, worked fine for 2 hours, then the engine started surging, everything flashes on and off. I didn't buy a new generator to work on it, so I contacted Amazon, they offered me a refund or a replacement, well I need it and I got a good deal, so a replacement will work. I can try hooking the fuel up direct or mess around with the solenoid, but I'm not even sure if I want to mess with it. What do you think it could be? (Same model as the one in the vid)

I've been going back and forth on whether to buy one of the whole home (non-portable) generac/kohler units which hooks up to a natural gas line for the home, but the way I figure it, I could buy 2 or 3 of these Westinghouse units and still save 10 grand over the cost of the whole home units (once you factor in installation costs with certified electrician). So even if one of the Westinghouse machines fail I'd still come out significantly ahead cost wise.

Does this run your hot water? I have a tankless water heater and the same generator but it bogs down and shuts off if I turn the heater on

@@KoreyB03 just a few phones charging and a light on. I turned the A/c off but I left the breaker on I wonder if I turned the breakers off to everything other than the water heater if it would work, I just figured it took way more electricity to heat the water thru it, I don’t have a normal water tank

@@andrewturner2338 yea that’s why I was wondering. Maybe the ac kicked on or something. Id think if that thing runs your ac it should run the hot water heater. I’m no professional tho. My 6500 ran the hot water heater. I did turn everything else off other than a couple kitchen plugs tho.

Yessir. After the 2nd run I changed it and put oil in it a 3rd time and ran it. Didn’t change it after that one because it looked good. So, I guess I technically only changes it twice, but put oil in it 3 times. Haha. Hopefully it helps. 🍻🤘🏻

All comes down to the unit and what fuel you’re running it off of I guess. Runs my 4 ton with no problems along w some of the kitchen circuits at the same time. I haven’t found the max it will run, but I do know it will run the necessities.

It is strong to run a home a/c - if you install EasyStart - a soft start - to your ac, to lower your starting/surge amps.

This Westinghouse generator didn't Start in the Winter of 1-3-24. I have tried 3 different times to Prepare for an outage. 👎👎 It's so COMPLICATED TO START in the Winter

You’ve tried 3 of them and all 3 wouldn’t start? That’s weird. Theres gotta be something going on because even the initial one I received that was dropped somewhere along the line hard enough to bend the frame and sever wires started for me. Sucks you’re having issues.
