Maple-flavored sausage links is a common treat here in the USA, so I'm sure they'd sell them in maple-mad Canada as well. At first, I was surprised the airport didn't sell them, until I realized they'd have to be in a freezer case, something you don't typically see in airport gift shops.

I remember doing the same things in primary school in Australia. You would have to learn all the verses of the national anthem (that no one actually remembers), paint boomerangs with aboriginal designs (which, now I think about it, i quite culturally insensitive), and go out to historical villages to learn how people lived when Australia was being colonised.

And your story about Billy Beaver was dam good, probably because it was so well-researched. It looks like you read a lot of dam books. Dam.

Yep, as a kid I remember doing lots of crafts and other activities to learn about the US, my home state of Oklahoma, and my hometown. So drawing US flags or coloring Oklahoma flags, learning mottos, state song, national anthem, doing “land runs” on the school playground, etc. Btw: I live in an area that is where those Canadian geese migrate to every winter, though some stay here year round (probably because people feed them). We usually have Canadian geese, ducks, and swans at two of our local parks with “lakes” and at our city’s water works where the pond is there. People go to these places and can feed them. The geese here aren’t mean, nor the ducks. It’s usually the swans that are mean. They’re pretty, but they’re bullies and will just shove the other birds out of their way. They’ll also run you off the sidewalks in the park if they’re on them. The geese will sometimes chase you, but I haven’t seen them ever bite anyone like the swans have. And the geese put up with toddlers and are gentle with them like the ducks are with them. In fact they seem to know to mimic the ducks behaviors because that results in being given more food by people....something the bully swans haven’t learned yet. Government Springs Park is the main place the geese like to hang out while the ducks usually are at the city’s water works and with the swans at Meadowlake Park. They’re certainly not afraid of fireworks and they seem to know to all congregate at Meadowlake Park around the time of year that 4th of July celebrations happen as that’s where my hometown has its main celebrations. Although while we do have a lot of Canadian geese here, especially during the winter months, my hometown is known for its large population of purple martins, especially during the fall when lots of birds are migrating you can see the purple martins fill telephone lines, parkings lots, and even the sky! It’s really neat (or scary if you are afraid of birds). In fact the Oklahoma Legislature designated us the purple martin capital due to their numbers here. A fact that even made it on my hometown’s Wikipedia entry. My state’s new Lt. Governor though is trying to rebrand the state to inspire businesses to move here and tourists to visit and has asked for input from the citizens. I don’t know if most people can think beyond what we’ve been raised to think about our state and it’s symbols. Btw: I didn’t know about the wife of the PM fending off an attacker with a soap stone carving! That’s neat! Also didn’t know some of the language to the anthem had been changed to be more gender inclusive. That’s kinda neat actually that Canada is willing to “upgrade” its anthem (I don’t know a better way to phrase that). Here the US has a national anthem that we only sing the first verse to and I didn’t learn about the other verses until attending an event in which a military band and choir performed the entire song. My state’s anthem is from a Broadway musical and film so it’s definitely easy to hear in its entirety (though we usually skip the opening lines and go right to the: “Oklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plains....”part of the song when sung at state events, but you do learn it all in school. The Oklahoma pledge of allegiance is new so when I was in school we only learned the US flag pledge of allegiance. My grandparents taught me the US Creed, though I couldn’t recite it to you today if you asked as I don’t remember it. In high school the foreign language I had was French and we learned to say the US flag pledge in French and I can still remember it. When my niece started school is when I learned that Oklahoma had a state pledge of allegiance to its flag, too, as she had to learn it and recite it in school each morning after the US flag pledge of allegiance (well unless you object to doing it for religious reasons...my dad being a JW I do know I was never required to say it, that it was optional). Great video as always! I look forward to the next one!!!!!!! Btw: since you made an anthem for your channel why not make a flag, seal, coat of arms, etc. Could be fun! As for channel subscriber nicknames perhaps something that’s a play on JJ or doubled lettered in reference to the double letters of JJ. You’re amazingly creative so I’m sure you could come up with many things! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enid,_Oklahoma
