DOGWOOD CAMPGROUND - Lake Arrowhead, CA

In this video we take a spontaneous trip into the mountains to do some spring camping at Dogwood Campground in Lake Arrowhead. We were a little rusty and made some mistakes including forgetting a few important things at home. April weather in the mountains of California is still pretty cold, but it's always beautiful. Small tip . . . you seemed annoyed with the ash and smoke while cooking (who wouldn't be?), but know there is a difference between a "cooking fire" and a "campfire". Rather than a full-on campfire for cooking, it's best to make a very small/contained fire targeted under your cooking space only, and keep it stoked with small branches as needed. That way you won't have volumes of smoke in your face. When cooking is finished it's time to stoke the larger campfire with large logs. When I learned this discipline it made camp cooking much more enjoyable.

Niiiiiiiiice. Good tip! 😎🤙🏽 Usually I prefer to wait till the fire dies down and is just hot coals and small flame to do my cooking. But also I would have really liked to have cleaned the pit out. Some places have the buckets, shovels and dumpsters for ash and coals… This pit was already filled when we arrived and made it extra messy. Thanks for the comment really appreciate it! And thanks for watching 😊

Consider a doubles sleeping bag. Body heat from 2 people goes a long way. We've purchased one years ago and we're never going back. A couple tequila shots before bed also helps. Lol 😆

Buddy heater bro. Buddy heater and Teton sleeping bags, any of their zero degrees are the best. We went tent camping in big bear where at night it was 20-25 degrees and I took my 5 year old and 1 year old. We survived nice and warm.

@@WhereWeWild nah bro. It’s a common concern tho. But it says right on the box. It won’t leak. If u want to be extra careful inside the tent, Then buy a carbon monoxide alarm. U already got a temperature gage.

@@SteelerLos Hahaha yeah I never had one so, that’s just what I heard that ya gotta be careful with that. Should be fine though I’d think especially with the windows cracked and stuff… but lol that’s funny and a smart idea to bring the alarm, that definitely sounds like something a psychopath like myself would do. 👊🏽😂

Hey thanks man we really appreciate the support 👊🏽😊 And nice we liked that place, can’t speak for all of the sites and I’m sure some are more private feeling than others but ours felt pretty private and was quiet when we were there. There were other sites close to ours but there was nice separation with trees and stuff that made it feel more private. Idk how much camping you do but you might enjoy this video and can use some of the ideas to help you find a good site there. Hope you have a fun trip. 🤙🏽 kzread.info/dash/bejne/im2FwdqjlJvYYZs.htmlsi=4HL-3U0Pru1YNfhQ

Besides the temp.Ditch air mattresses especially in the cold.I have used them stopped 20 years ago.Went to self inflating mats 4 in thick ones Mondo king by thermarest etc.Now I think the next generation sleep systems for car tent campers are Memory foam camp mats Always go for the longest length always 3in thick. They also double for guest children. The ones I have are Zermatte company and Hazli Matrix company both on amazon. Not cheap but last a life time.Check out you tube vids.I'll be doing a couple in a month. I mean I would never go chopping any trees or healthy branches down or anything like that, but the dead little broken branches and twigs on the ground I think are fine to help start your fire with. It’s probably good to clean some of that stuff out of there anyway if you think about it, but we always buy our logs and bigger stuff at whatever site we are at if they sell it. 😊
