Both races are very similar. They are very family and really great dogs.

Races ? Lol ! Sorry, that just sounded funny. Breeds of a species is more appropriate. I’ve been training dogs for nearly half a century, and have a 14 yr old Bullmastiff now.

We brought out new pup home yesterday afternoon. Oddly enough, his mother is Bullmastiff and his father is Dogue De Bordeaux!

I have a 14 yr old Bullmastiff, and with almost a half century of dog training, I had to rethink dog psychology with this breed. The woman with the Bullmastiff is right on the button with this breed. I could have a long conversation with her, and I doubt we’d vary in any understanding of this breed. Great conversation ladies.

Dogue de bourdeaux dogs are larger than Bullmastiffs. They have larger heads and are heavier. Bullmastiffs are only slightly taller. The dogs here are mismatched for the sake of comparison... a puppy female and a 2 year old male...

Have owned both, very different dogs but both are wonderful. I currently have a female DDB, a real live wire.

I have a Bullmastiff but I love pretty much all mastiffs. Being you’ve had both I’m curious do the DDB’s have the low energy like the BM’s ? My BM is happy with 2 walks a day. 🐾 ❤

My Bullmastiff at a year old, while waiting for the school bus with my youngest daughter one winter morning, was running full speed across the yard and instead of stopping, or missing me, he hit me from behind and I flew about 6 feet in the air, and flat on my back. My daughter thought he killed me, lol ! We laughed for years about that, even though I had just had back surgery before that. You really don’t want to get hit by a Bullmastiff at full speed, trust me ! They are really fast too.

im new to dogs and my friend had pups for sale and he gave me an american ban dogge french mastiff with american bulldog and hes only just turned 6 months and big already and hes the best hes perfect i love him so damn much and he isnt aggressive or barky and hes calm at the vets and he went vets 2 days ago and they said hes really calm and lovely dog. he weighed around 28Kg hes got white on his chest and sandy colour nose and mouth with a tint of dark, i mean not as dark as the english mastiff here in this video to the right. i had the dog 3 months and it was only last night i see my dogs dad on way home from the shop. i was happy and so was the owner, his dog was chained to a fence and im walking by so i seen a massive dog and thought wow hes beautiful and i had my dog on lead and let him get close just by touching noses and if i see aggression ill pull away and just move on and then the guy came out the shop and shouted something like keep away from the dog with other dogs i said ok mate, then the guy came over the road and noticed my dog and said did u get that dog from leon i said yeah and trust i was so damn happy and so was he and we exchanged numbers and we live close by each other and will go on walks with the dad and the son. today is raining all day in england where im at so that sucks and theres no sun and my dog wouldnt like that im sure. edit: also it took me a while to get him on the lead and only 6th month i got him to and hes good now but not 100% as hes still getting to know places and smells and still scared of cats and things lol also it was only yesterday i noticed he was getting pully on the lead too much and hadnt had his free run about that day or longer and so i took him tothe park and he let it all out i was far in the field and he would run at me like a race horse and fast trust me with his long legs and he would get so close running past in front or behind me the silly bugger tryng to scare me lol

The woman is incorrect about the breeds size. Dogue de Bordeaux's are the bigger dog breed. They may be slightly shorter, but they are much more hefty. More packed shoulders, a bigger head. Males usually weigh 150 lbs, while a male Bullmastiff weighs 120-130 lbs. You brought a female puppy and compared it with a fully grown adult male dog...

I love both these dogs. I've found training is easier with games. Play tug and teach drop leave stay. Do NOT use aggressive training methods. They want to make you happy but on their terms. They are stubborn but if well tempered its hilarious. Mine loves all children and is very gentle. He's 5 and 150lbs. Train from the day you get them, otherwise they will do what they want. They are lazy until it's time to not be. A good half hour walk and it's all couch cuddles. They are very sweet and love to cuddle and give you wet sloppy kisses. They only drool when hot, hungry or thirsty. Just have a dish towel in every room and you'll be fine. And lastly and most importantly do not let them run too much and no stairs at all for the first 18 months to 2 years. Their joints don't fully develop until 2years old. If you over exert them you can give them hip and elbow displasia super early. Think of it as would you make your baby work out and play football? It's the same principle. A good rule of thumb is 5 minutes of play for each month they are alive. Only positive reinforcement for training, but be stern. They are not for new and or timid owners. Be a strong but caring pack leader. No hitting shock choke or prong collars or they will completely ignore you. Food, play and non repetitive training (if you only train one thing they'll listen the first and second times, the third it's if they are bored or not they learn incredibly fast. So play teach a sit play sit again play sit and a stay play and reward with food. )also socialize from the moment you get them, when they reach the age of 1 their guarding instincts kick in. You want them to be able to walk with you in a crowd with no leash and be perfectly happy. But God help anyone who invades their territory or attempts to hurt their family. They will go from super sweet to cujo in a blink of an eye. Keep training and socialization up until they die and you'll never want another breed. They Love their family so much and will die to protect them. They are also 130-150 pound goofy lapdog. They are perfect.

Drool is part of Mastiff life !. Get over it.
