    There are a few prisons that do have these kind of programs for the prisoners (after a thorough background check) where they can have dogs or cats, I remember watching my cat from hell and them having a segment where the host Jackson Galaxy visited a prison with this program and everyone looked to be having a great time, the cats had all the space, love and attention they needed, the prisoners quickly learned to behave so they could keep their new friends. I even once heard of a story where one prisoner got beaten pretty badly for spitting at another's cat

    Well, I think it was heavily implied to only be for offenders that didn’t commit serious crimes. Obviously, a rapist or serial killer wouldn’t be allowed to do this.

    Brandon Lee: They’re special programs & only certain hand picked inmates are chosen to participate. Who is chosen is 100% dependent on what their charges/convictions are & how good or bad their past & present behavior has been while incarcerated. They don’t let just any inmate who wants to be in the program be in the program.

    I know. There is no downside to this program. It's a win-win all around. Pound dogs become adoptable, and the inmates get a purpose, acquire a skill. So the incarceration isn't just punishment, but an actual program towards _rehabilitation._

  • @LittleFatFeet68

    @LittleFatFeet68

    grytlappar 100% agree with you. The only downside might be that the inmates must miss the dogs terribly after they go off to their new jobs. I know new dogs come in and the training starts all over again but they still have to miss all the love, companionship and the sheer joy each dog has brought them. I foster dogs and even though I am helping turn their lives around and they eventually leave to have a wonderful life with their adoptive families, I miss every single one that I have had the pleasure of loving and supporting. This is a such a great uplifting story of people helping animals that sadly could have been euthanized. Special thanks to these inmates for all the work they do👍

  • @Hypatia4242

    @Hypatia4242

    6 жыл бұрын

    +Patty Lanenga You're right, the inmates must miss the dogs terribly. However, I watched a documentary about these inmate programs and the criminologist lady they interviewed said it can be helpful, because it allows the prisoners to express emotions (joy, affection, loss, tears) that normally are taboo in prison. There is a kind of catharsis to be able to meet a dog, be playful, happy, then have an 'excuse' to be sad or tearful. While the pain is real, maybe it helps some of the men and women heal from other pain too.

    I think any dog in prison program is fantastic! the inmates are not only giving back to society with training dogs, for many it is the first time in their lives that they have experienced unconditional love! Through nurturing a dog, an inmate experiences first hand the simple cause & effect of gentle voice & hands results in desired behavior. it's a win/win all around & I wish it was available to all inmates everywhere!

    Dogs are so happy to "serve", it gives them fulfillment and they only want affection for a reward. They just take to service like it was a duty they were meant to perform, and the trust, companionship and love they give back can mean so much. Adults, children, people with special needs, the elderly, there are so many people dogs are wonderful "assistants"/friends to! A joyous welcome home bark & kisses are better than a drug, and less judgemental than a human. 💕

What else could bring not only small time criminals and violent criminals to their knees but a four legged critter that doesn't care what the crimes are. Dogs don't care about that. At first, I was skeptical and even a bit afraid of the idea of pairing dogs with inmates: I had this "Prison Break/Breaking Bad" idea that bad people would train these dogs in preparation for a break out. But, watching the video and seeing how inmates were smiling as they were greatful for a second chance and a renewed sense of purpose, I'm glad I was proven wrong. This is *exactly* the kind of rehabilitation that the prison system needs. Thank you, Dodo!

    What a great program! Dogs can help PTSD so much. Mine can tell the difference between regular upset and a PTSD meltdown. If it's regular upset, he will lean his 110lbs on me like a giant furry weighted blanket. But if it's PTSD, which temporarily yanks your brain back into the trauma, he will get very intrusive and even whack me with his nose or paws until I come back to the present moment. Then he comforts me until I am okay again. He wasn't formally trained and is a rescue, but he is Kangal/Anatolian Shepherd, a Livestock Guardian breed that often teaches themselves tasks.

    We all deserve a second chance. We all have regrets and feelings. We all feel love and passion. I think all inmates deserve this kind of treatment, unless the dogs are not safe around them, because that would only make things worse. There was footage of a police officer getting strangled by an escaped inmate, from a security camera. The policeman was particularly nice to the other inmates, so instead of helping kill him, the other inmates rushed in to save him, and pulled the escaped inmate off the policeman. Love can go a long way!

    I see my fellow humans in those jails. God, I pray please, heal their hearts. Whatever brought them into the jail, please save them. Let these beautiful people live happy lives showing the world how spiritual healing can transform a person and bring joy and happiness to everyone around. Please God, hear our prayer. Amen.

    Really Amazing to See. Most Probably Robot Dogs will Replace Them In Few Years and these Robot Dogs will Do So Much Work Given to Them Compared to Normal Dog but I will still Love Them.

    I agree that this should be in all prisons. It gives both inmates and the animals purpose. Awesome program 👏
