@@Itosalix did you know that “bless you” started from the belief that sneezing was your soul trying to escape your body and someone saying bless you caused it to go back in. No idea why we keep saying it based on the origin. Seems really strange to me. I say gesundheit sometimes but that’s about it.

The irony is that Mooby is clearly a stand in for Disney, which owned Miramax at the time this movie was made.

About that: in all semi-seriousness, it was inappropriate for Loki to pull a gun on her, but she was *working for* a company that did all these things. She probably didn't know every dirty detail, but when you work for people that sleazy for several years, you begin to pick up on some of it. Still she stayed. But then again: she may have had very little choice in the matter. So it's #complicated.

Sorry if I'm pointing out the obvious, but I love how Bartleby first recites the sins for which they were to be punished, and the Loki executes the punishment, since in an earlier scene the movie had established that that was what their roles had been in ancient times as well when they were inflicting divine retribution on Egypt and before that on Sodom.

@@jacobmetz3267 It'd actually be in her best interest to divest of the shares as well. The company's toast, as investors won't have any confidence in a company that was quite literally decapitated by a dude with a gun who only left one person alive. Bonus points: Because of Bartleby she now knows a whole bunch of people who were personally screwed over by the other members of the board (one mother, two sons, an 11 year old boy in SEA, and a whole bunch of people who bought unsafe versions of their products) and can donate whatever she inherits from them to those people. And then join a convent in the middle of nowhere and live in constant fear of Loki returning to cap her.

Businesses are not a hereditary monarchy. The board if there is any would elect new positions and if there isn't a new board to do that would be established. She doesn't get the position by default and being a pure soul I doubt she has the rep or traits to walk into the job.

Voodoo absolutely is a religion with multiple deities and not “just a collection of superstitions.” A whole lot of voodoo practitioners would be pretty pissed off to hear someone say such a thing about their spirituality. Other than that nonsense, this is an amazing scene. It uses these two unhinged characters to perfectly personify the problem with organized religion by having Loki state that decency comes from fear; it doesn’t. Decency comes from empathy and love, but mainstream religions often choose to capitalize on people’s fear, instead of validating and encouraging their empathy. Great script.

I love this scene. I can almost imagine it playing out in Congress when both houses meet to hear the President. I would not expect any of them to be deemed innocent, and owing to time constraints they would have to just summarize the sins (The people in this supposedly august body have broken the commandments no less than 3,847 times among them …. ) and then start the purification.

Oh yeah, cause that obviously stable, fetid mass of decomposing, sprayed tanned animal fat is any more innocent.

How many people now religiously (no pun intended) say "God blesd you" when someone sneezes after this?
