Doghouse -- 30 minute build
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
The total build time was 30-35 minutes. Could have been less without the camera.
Materials:
1 sheet 3/8" plywood (4 x 8) = $20
10 square 1x1s (they're actually 1.5 x 1.5) = $1 each for a total of $10
4ft of scrap 2 x 4
Around 25 1.5" wood screws = $5 for a box of 50 ( I only used 20)
Hinges = $6
Total cost = $41
The top is 37 x 24 inches. It's 2 inches longer than the bottom so that it will overhang a bit.
The bottom and both sides are 35 x 24 inches.
The back and front walls are 24 x 24 inches.
If you use longer screws, make sure they do not poke into the dog house so they will not hurt your pup.
If you are going to put the doghouse in your yard, you may want to consider building it from 1/2 or 3/4 inch plywood. And maybe waterproofing it with something like Thompson's water seal. If you use a chemical to waterproof it, the make sure it is COMPLETELY DRY before letting you dog in it because the fumes are not good to breathe in.
I put old blankets in my doghouse for Jaxy to lay on. If you want to insulate yours, you may want to drape an old blanket around it and use small staples to hold it on. But don't cover it with something that will get wet and hold water because you don't want to keep the wood wet.
If you put it in your yard, then consider putting something underneath it to keep it off the ground.

❤thanks for the instructions. My son and I built it according to your specs and it turned out pretty decent. Next we will spray paint it.

So the sides are 24 x 35 right ? And for bottom and top ?
Making a dog house is the easy part (hundreds, maybe thousands of videos out there). Luring the dog in is the hard part.

Hiya, Mike. Been a while. I got the build finished last year. Double wall insulated all the way around, water sealed, silicone caulked, full of shavings, double flap door, sitting on CAT block, offset door opening. This thing is built to the 9's, man. Thanks so much for uploading the build video😊

He was a bit hesitant to go in at first, but soon fell in love with it. I added a light in the house later for warmth. I though it would be funny add his picture in the thumbnail image to see how many people noticed it wasn't real. I think you're the second person to mention it. That size house should fit a beagle just fine. If you put the house out in the weather, you may want to add a few coats of water-sealant to the outside to protect the wood. If you do that, make sure the fumes fade before letting the dog go it. Thanks for watching. And good luck.
Thank you for this tutorial. I think I'll sit down and try to figure out how to modify the measurements slightly to make the roof overhang on all sides still using only one sheet. Maybe move one of the interior 2×4s up to give a slight slope. Not sure what I'd do about the gap between the sides and the roof though.
@MikeM100

If you want to make the roof larger you will probably have to use 2 sheets of plywood. It took the entire sheet to build the house. Good luck. Thanks for watching.
Thanks s much, you save my day, I will use it for chickens, with a few adjustments. But the really good of this video, I can make them as an assembler line. I need to make 10. I was using pallets. But this design is way better.

Auto thumbs up for the shirt!
P.s. how would I keep it from leaking?
How has it held up? I’d be afraid of plywood warping if left in the elements. And no slope at all on the roof seems like asking for trouble. I’m curious to hear how it’s done.

It is still solid and works well. We keep it on our deck, out of the weather. I applied a couple of coats of Thompson's water seal to seal and protect the wood and prevent mold, which has worked very well. I've made several more of these and given them to the local shelter and everyone seems to like them. This is a very basic house, designed to be cheap, since wood prices are at an all-time high. A comparable dog house at a store like PetsMart costs nearly $100. The flat, hinged, roof allows for easy storage for bedding and toys, and easy cleaning of the inside. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Is circular saw noise THAT high in decibels for needed head phone protection?..Gawd,..better crack out that B.A.R. or M-1 Garand while they're on..LOL!!
I got to thinking that if a person were to use 1/2 or 3/4 severe weather pressure treated plywood, it would hold up best, and could be put out in the elements. Of course, any sane person would still want to seal it. More protection=never a bad thing. But, if I use 1/2 or 3/4, would it change the measurements any?
@MikeM100

If you use thicker plywood, then you may want to use 2x4s instead of 1x1s to frame it because there would be more weight and strain on the frame. Otherwise the dimensions would be the same. You would also need longer screws. I used 1-1/4 inch screws, but for thicker plywood and 2x4s the screws would probably need to be at least 1-1/2. If you use longer screws make sure they do not stick into the doghouse so that your dog does not get jabbed by them.

Pressure treated lumber should not be used where a dog can get to it to chew on. Or any other animal, for that matter.
@MikeM100
3 жыл бұрын
That's a really good point. Treated wood contains chemicals that are harmful, and maybe even poisonous, for animals.

It depends on which side you are cutting them for. I mentioned it in the video.
