you can really gauge how much love people have in their heart by how they treat the most vunerable creatures in their life. if this man has this much fondness for his dog, could you imagine how he would treat his wife if she suffered a disease? how he would support his kids in hard times? what a good man.

They will also go under the bed and walk in circles! My Molly had it and more , she passed last month, she was 17 years old, she just laid down and fell asleep, we had her since she was a pup, she was a mid sized Pomeranian and when she left she took a piece of my heart. But even with the pain of her loss, I wouldn't change a moment of our lives with her. She gave us unconditional love and joy. I still feel her around every corner ! Love you Molly 🐕🤗💕

Awwww, sweet baby..getting old is no fun at all! I had a little dog who developed dementia when she was 17. She would stand in a corner and then whimper because she didn't realize all she had to do was back up a little and turn around. Daisy did have moments of lucidity and she would get around just fine. She even ran down the last part of the street on the way home after her walk because she knew it was close by. One day, Daisy simply collapsed in a heap on the livingroom floor. I called a friend who worked at the local vet clinic and she came out right away. Daisy was already unconscious and after two injections had drifted peacefully away. I have her ashes upstairs.

I hate when they get old ... it's the absolute WORST part of having pets, because you put so much time and love into them, and they give you so much love and good memories in return. We had a little toy poodle we got at two years old from a bad home situation. Two was the estimate, he could have been older for all we knew. He lived until he was at least fourteen and had gone blind and deaf, then started having some breathing troubles and just was not living his best life anymore. He had also stopped barking/making noise entirely, which was so hard to see. Once, the summer before he died, he had managed to wander under the open recliner of our couch and couldn't figure his way out, poor boy! The recliner got shut with nobody the wiser. We quickly realized he was missing, and looked all over for him for nearly an hour, in and outside the house. We were terrified because we live near woods, and he'd actually fallen off a path up there innto some bushes recently. I finally had the idea to check the couch, and sure enough there he was, unharmed, just sitting in the little hollow covered by the recliner! He was little, so just fit right in there. He was our first poodle, and we loved and still love that little dog. He's why we got big poodles, and are crazy poodle people now. He saw me through my junior and senior years of high school, college ... more college ... a great loss ... I wouldn't trade the twelve years we had with him for anything though.

Sadly, all the diseases that can affect humans can affect dogs and even other animals. We're not different in this thing. We're one with the nature. They can even be born with things we clasify as autism or adhd. The same goes even for sexual orientations. We're all the same in this, the only thing is there are billions of us and we can easily communicate, so it might seem we're the only ones experiencing this.

@@roboticunclephil it’s not about “deserving”, it just _is_ … nature isn’t some justice system that condemns the good and the bad. It’s truly indiscriminate and, by extension, the most pure thing that exists. Piper has lived a wonderful life and it’s an honor he ever got to exist. The chances of being born are so laughably low, it is a miracle he ever got the chance to, well, be Piper. It is a a miracle, and likely pure luck, we have gotten the chance to be ourselves as well. To have gotten the chance to breathe, eat, laugh, love, cry- to be actually _something._ Keep living life to the fullest, we’ve only got one. Bless you for surrounding Piper with your loving care. So loyal. My Senior Beagle also lost, first, his vision, then, his hearing, then his sense of smell. There were so many health problems which he and I handled with patience and strength. He was a strong, beautiful boy, just like your Piper. Dogs are amazing and resilient. Eventually, the dementia increased. Increasingly fast circling. He made it to 15 1/2 years old. He was well-loved as is Piper. Senior dogs are amazing, aren’t they?

That's exactly what happened to ours. He had a series of strokes in the last two years of his life, the first and last being the worst. I often wonder if we shouldn't have tried so hard to bring him back after the first, as he'd stopped eating, because he was never the same after that and after each stroke he lost more and more ability to function. We made a lot of modifications such as ramps and a food bowl that was up on a pedestal so he didn't have to out his head right down, because he would lose his balance when he did that, but then he lost his sight, hearing and smell as well as his balance. By the end, he knew no one and was fearful of everything and when another stroke robbed him of what little he had left and he was clearly suffering, with no quality of life, we had to have him put down. He reached 17.5 years old.

I had a chihuahua that lived to 20+ years. He too developed dementia. It started with him getting “stuck” in corners, forgetting to turn around and go back. That progressed to him walking in circles. As long as their appetite stays good they continue on until an infection, virus, etc. overcomes them. Be comforted by the fact that you guided and cared for him well enough for him to reach that ripe old age when there was finally no gas left is his tank. You’re a wonderful parent.

She was roughly 15 when she crossed the rainbow bridge. The one habit she never forgot was having a 6th sense for anyone curling up with a blanket, homing in on them, and finding a way to curl up under the blanket with them like a little warm ball.
