Wait- You trained a cat? How?!

This is one of my favorite videos of yours. Rats are like tiny dogs with hands. What's most amazing to me about rats is the amount of character and personality that can be packed into such a small and short-lived mammal--they have been selected to be ever more intelligent over the millenia. It's obvious that your animals are among the luckiest pets alive - they always look super happy and healthy and cognitively engaged. That takes a lot of commitment. Thanks for sharing them with us--brilliant.

Im a cat lover but the rats won hands down when it was raising the flag!

the rats are the winners When I saw the rat raising the Canadian flag we knew it was patriotic and we knew we had a winner. When the mice roll the container while standing inside I was thinking free electricity When I saw the mice climbing across the line I thought to myself Rambo pt 5

I will always vote for Your Bengal Kaiser. Outstanding! im always amazed how could you train a cat to do so many tricks,and so hard ones! in all youtube or internet i've never seen smarter cat than Kaiser. Keep up your good and fun relationship with animals. oh, and rats surprised me too. That slow backwards walking.. :)

Absolutely FANTASTIC and AMAZING! I'm sooo impressed! I've been training working dogs myself for a number of years so I know what a dog can do, but with a cat or a rat?!?! I had rats in my youth (in the 80s) and loved them dearly. Not all of my friends did, though. Had to "lock them up" in their huge cage (multi-level) sometimes. You had to make them really tame and give them things to do or they'd make mischief. ;) "Bows" to you from Sweden!

Adorable! It would have been cool if you had Famous do her skateboard trick to oppose Nana's skateboarding trick. Still, all the tricks were so cute, especially the one where Nana and Famous are stealing money from the wallet! And Nana lifting the hoop was especially impressive! As was Kaiser's trick of pushing the shopping cart!

All of the rats performing in this video have passed on.

The rats are the CLEAR winners with due respect to the amazing intelligence as a breed of border Collie's and while cats aren't typically in that range of 'braininess' your cat was pretty sharp Even vs. a dog as smart as a Border Collie, it's the rats all the way.

They're all so gosh darn cute!! I can't decide who won. :) I've been trying to decide on what animal I want to get in the future.. I'm still a university student right now so it'll be awhile anyway, but I'm stuck between cats, rats and dogs! hahaha Would a border collie be a bad dog for a first time dog owner? Or would they be good, as long as you keep them active? I love running, so I was wondering if an hour long run with me every day would be enough exercise for a collie? I'd love to get one, but not if I can't keep it happy! I know they can get destructive if you don't get their energy out, too. I'd also love to teach it tricks. :)

***** Whether Border Collies make "good" or "bad" first-time dogs depends entirely on the person who will be the potential owner. For some people, they are the best breed out there... for others, they are their worst nightmare. A run down the road each day will not satiate a Border Collie's immense exercise needs. Border Collies are high-energy dogs that require a significant amount of both physical AND mental exercise each day that goes above and beyond a mere walk down the road or a game of frisbee. They need to be challenged, and quickly bore with activities that are simple or repetitive. Trick training and participating in dog sports (obedience, agility, flyball, freestyle, etc.) are an excellent outlet for a Border Collie's energy and it keeps their mind busy. You are correct; Border Collies can be destructive and exhibit behavioural issues if they are not provided with sufficient physical and mental exercise daily. But any dog can, regardless of the breed. Border Collies are also a long-term commitment (like any dog) so you must prepare yourself to sufficiently exercise and challenge your collie every day of his/her life, which could be up to 18 years. So long as you have the time, creativity, and patience to devote to a Border Collie, they are the best companions you could ask for.

I've decided against a border collie just because I don't want to get one and then find out it's too much for me. I don't want to be that kind of person. Goldens are nice, but I'm leaning toward a Japanese Spitz right now. :) (Very similar to American Eskimo). But, I have a few more years to come to a decision. :P Thanks for the advice guys!

***** If you're in an apartment, I don't think the Collie is a good choice. This is just because university work probably won't let you spend huge amounts of time with the dog, and that coupled with a small living area could create a lot of issues. If you do have lots of time to spend though, I'd make sure that there's an off-leash park so you can play fetch with it. That way they can run at their full speed quite a bit, which I almost guarantee is better than your full speed. I'd definitely recommend a good amount of time off leash playing in addition to the hour run each day.

Wow, your rats are extremely well-trained; I knew of their intelligence and ability to learn tricks but I was unaware of how much they really could learn! Perhaps you could do a tutorial video on some of their tricks and behaviors?

+Waspish_ Jupiter I beg to differ. I work as a professional studio animal trainer and I have been training all species of animals, wild and domestic, for over a decade. I have worked with hundreds of dogs over the years of varying breeds, including every breed you have listed. I find rats to show signs of a higher intelligence level than even the smartest dogs by my experience. When training a group of rats versus a group of dogs, each individual dog has to be specifically and meticulously trained a behaviour if each dog in the group is to learn the same behaviour. With rats, I simply work on a behaviour with one rat while the group watches. In a few minutes, the rest of the group is copying the rat that is learning the behaviour when they see that they are earning rewards, and usually within about 3-5 minutes an entire group of rats has learned the same trick even though I only worked with one rat. I have had people ask me how I trained my rat Suki, for example, to weave through poles in her agility course. The truth is, I never taught her. At all. I had been guiding Shadow, another rat, through the poles while Suki watched, then she dashed up during the training session and weaved through the poles flawlessly without any training on my part. I have had this happen more times than I can count (and yes, Shadow did eventually learn to weave after watching Suki). I even filmed one of the times Suki attempted to copy Shadow doing a trick (search for "Epic Rat Tricks" on my channel) This is something that I have never observed in any dogs. Don't get me wrong, dogs are extremely intelligent animals and in some areas, such as reading human expressions, I believe they show a higher level of intelligence than rats. But when it comes to training and learning tricks, dogs are simply no match for a rat's intelligence.

The rats were amazing, but I still think the cat won. It's amazing what Kaiser can do when cats don't usually perform tricks and are much harder to train than dogs. Also I'm sorry about Raven. R.I.P Raven. :(
