This week, our in-house professional (aka The Jaded Dog Trainer), takes a look at three traditional treat pouches we offer. The PetSafe Treat Pouch, the Doggone Good Rapid Rewards Pouch, and the Ruffwear Treat Trader. All have one thing in common... Like, well, they all hold training treats! (lol)
The PetSafe Treat Pouch has a solid clip on the back for a belt and a 1” waist strap that comes with it. It has a hefty compartment for treats and an accessory pocket up front, for things like a clicker, poop bags or phones. The opening and closing for this pouch is stiff, which may be a little more difficult to open, but that also means your treats are more secure if you take it off and throw it in your car, or run with your dog. For this, it's good for active training, as the treats will not easily spill out.
The Doggone Good Rapid Rewards Pouch is a taller, narrower pouch, with a plethora of options to carry accessories. It comes with a belt clip, and the treat pouch is secured with magnets. It’s not likely to pop open, but the entirety of the top is not enclosed, potentially allowing treats to be exposed to curious dogs or bugs. The benefit to this though, it makes getting into the pouch quick and easy.
Finally, the Ruffwear Treat Trader looks a lot like a modified chalk bag. With a heavy-duty belt clip and detachable waist strap that adjusts from 30"-48". The unique thing about this pouch is that it curves in a semi-circle design to make it sit against your hip tighter for a more sleek look. This also has a zipper pocket in front for small accessories you want to carry.
All three of these pouch options are similar in utility, with slight advantages based on your training style and needs. Like Matt says in the video, he has his favorite. And we're not offended if your favorite is different than ours when it comes to a training treat pouch. If you're looking to quickly and easily reward your dog for good behavior, you can’t go wrong with any of them.
