Woo Hoo! Finally. Dog stuff. ;-)

This needs to be a weekly thing Mike ! Even if you repeat yourself… the information you give for dog training is worth repeating! Because of your advice and ver the years . Every time i work my dog outside I get dozens of people coming up to me and asking who trained my dog . I am gradually considering doing this part time because of how much I love working with k9s. Makes it so much fun when the dogs you train are possibly smarter than you . At the very least it’s incredibly entertaining. Again, Thank you for all the advice you provide over the years !

Dogs/pets are the forever child....if you've raised children(hopefully well)...you can raise a pet. If you have no children or that experience and aquired a pet ......welcome...you now have a child. I had a Black Lab-Rottweiler mix, and at around four months old the vet said he was eventually going to have hip issues, but to just watch them and have him checked every now and then. I jogged him all the time, had him in the woods and field, he swam, ran, jumped, could jump into a CA over semi truck. He made it to almost 16 years old, then his legs gave out, and I put him down. Wished I'd have gotten him wheels, but he lived a good, long, full life with no other issues.

Currently have a 27inch tall 120 lb Dutch Sheppard, he is very chill and does not act. When he was nose to nose with a smaller mix that dog snapped, Norris just stepped back, his body tensed like a spring seems he was waiting for the next move, the owner said sorry Norris relaxed. He loves being petted and is not easily distracted. Love the breed.

I have one dog that has couch privileges and one that does not, one needs constant structure. Living with two Malinois mix girls has been a true lesson in training and structure ❤️🐶

A long time ago, I had a great dog. He listened, didn't tear things up, etc. He was a blue healer and went dang near everywhere with me. We always moved the cattle down to the pasture and barn close to our homes before hunting season. I didn't know what he'd do, but even though he was never trained to, he herded the cattle to us and down to where we wanted them. Grandpa was never real fond of pets, but he loved that dog!! LOL

Funny story my first Rottweiler "Sage" I trained her from a book my neighbor gave me and it worked great but when you say a command sign it with one hand sit drink walk heal ECT and it was something she never forgot and made things easier in public and amazed everyone as well . Nonetheless doing it this way always kept her looking at me for the next command at all times .. Sage was the best dog I ever had and she was great with my infant daughters

i've been listening to your podcast for quite some time. stumbled over it by chance and stuck around as i used to be a paramedic and learning about your fields of expertise and your guest's has been indeed very interesting. thanks for that. also, i did have a collie and am getting a dutch shepherd in late august/september. i've been prepping for this for quite some time, maybe overdoing it but whatever. anyways. this video was very much helpful and checks alot of interesting boxes. i do like your aproach to dogtraining, seems to make a lot of sense. thanks for your podcasts and especially this one. cheers from austria

I can take my shepherd anywhere, I’ve have her off leash in a two story shopping mall, in elevators, on escalators, all different types of surfaces. I’m confident I can take her anywhere, however she doesn’t want other dogs in her space!

I’ve kept multiple Staffordshire bull terriers all my life. And I would say “mouthing” is a staffy trait. Mines have always did it especially when greeting people. My only concern with it is that other people who aren’t used to dogs will think there being attacked. So like Mike said being able to switch them off when needed is a must. Should also say they are usually pretty gentle when they do so

had to switch my golden doodle due to lentil allergies, but wish I could have kept your line of food. The treats and skin/coat ones are amazing, you're amazing, I just can't get enough of your knowledge about how best to build a lasting solid relationship with my friend and family protector. Albeit more bark than bite.

We 've got a 3 months golden retriever, full of energy.Gives us more insight in the education and certainly helps us solving problem behavior .

Wow! I am so glad I saw this Q & A. I have a 7 yr old retired champion show dog that I got. She is great showing however, a hot mess since being retired. I have her trained well on a leash however she is territorial and protective every time I take her out. I have the same neighbors. I have tried bribing with a tiny treat as well as a handheld flashlight to use as a focus or distraction. A couple of times I have picked her up and then she will calm down right away as she is a little Scottish Terrier.

We have 13 Bullmastiffs, ranging from 9 years old to 15 months old. Cant wait to start using some of these tips with them 😁

Fascinating- My ODA trained USMC Security Bn on the MP-5 in the 90’s-to balance the Dick dance they launched their Mal’s on us-terrifying😮!! Fur Rocket crushed my forearm thru the training suit😂 it took 9 months to recover! Much respect 🇺🇸🤙🏼

i have a 9 week old German Shepard that is a very good dog so far. So my question is how long do you spend on say training to sit? and when do you move on to the next area of training?

Mike, can you teach a old dog new tricks? Is it possible to train a dog that has gad no training for the first say 5 years of its life then start training. Obviously starting young is better but can older dogs with no prior training be taught. Does it seem to be harder to do it it that way. Hope that makes sense

Suggestion when your dog isn’t food focused. He could care less sometimes only eats once a day late at night. Treats of course he loves but even with treats he’s fussy and will only eat certain treats. How can we train without food? Just positive reinforcement ie. Petting the dog praising ??

Great video, and incredible content. wish I could have gotten a question in. So, on a off chance, you do this again here goes. My current Brittiany (female) I have her trained to Hold point to Wing and shot, she will retrieve a wounded bird without hard mouthing it (Killing the bird) For the second and third retrievals she is trained to hand signals. @ 5 years old she is a finished Bird dog. 3 Britiany I have owned and trained. have trained English pointers as well. So with all those great traits and attributes here is the Issue, Other than me, wife and son she HATES people, In the field if she sees another person, she will stop hunting and become abrasive towards the people. this behavior appeared at about 7 months of age and has not changed, looked at our online courses and did not see anything that would have corrective behavior in it.

I got a chiweenie that fell in my lap as pup. She is now a registered ESA dog. I've put years into working with her. I can take her anywhere, N do everyday, I work for fedex, we are all over place, never had a problem. But tons of hrs working with her. People are usually shocked a little dog doesn't bark, could care less about anyone but me in Walmart the mall, movie theater plane, you name it, she always looks at me for instructions

Mike I have seen trainers use vocal noises instead of a clicker to mark. Is there a reason why a clicker would be better. The trainer I have followed says it keeps his hands free and that is a benefit. Any reason you would disagree with that style?

Can you train multiple dogs at once. I got stuck with my brother's 5 pittbulls because they killed the neighbors dog. The dogs are untrained. 3 to 6 years old. I'm gonna buy your dog program and give it a shot. I wonder if I should separate them before I train them?

Sorry to point it out: modern e collar is the best invention since dog leash. It should be used on EVERY dog on low level stimulation. Every balanced trainer who uses leash pressure should strive to replace it with ecollar as soon as possible. I train protection and sport dogs for 40 years. And I simply hate, when this myth is repeated over and over:" ideally never..." If you think that, you shouldn't make videos about dog training and pretend you are a knowledgeable person in this regard. Ecollar is the most humane, precise and repeatable tool of control for a dog, which no leash and management can replace. And in low level stimulation is more an information tool than anything else, like leash and flat collar can be, but much more convenient in time and space.

“When do you start using an ecollar (or any tool)” well. Training a pup is different than getting a fucked yo adult or adolescent dog and having to unfuck their head and world. Very different.
