Good video, I bet this works great! My dad and I dug a trench under our wooden fence and poured about 4-5 inches of concrete around the entire perimeter. It did work for our digging rat terrier. I have my own home now and my blue heeler and the Scotty dog next door both tried to dig under my chain link to get to the other side to play. I filled the hole back with dirt several times. Knowing I didn’t want to repeat what dad and I did on their house because it was so much work. I brought the situation up at work, an Animal hospital, and the Doctor told me to instead fill any holes with dog poop! So I poop scooped the yard and filled hole with the poop, covering top with soil. I spoke to neighbor and he followed suit. And the dogs won’t dig through the poop. I know this only helps on repeated dig spots but it works for us. Plus I don’t leave my current dog outside un attended for long enough for her to dig a hole big enough to get through and now at age 8 she no longer digs period.

***Additional information: Please make sure you do not leave sharp edges exposed that could harm the dog's paws. Use a file or other tool to smooth them out and make them flush to the grid.

Nice Job. I started with a simple fence for two Corgis of a plastic fence as a deterrent. Bruce, immediately found the weak points. Now I'm going back and will refence the entire yard, 330 feet, with what you are using. Appreciate your tips.

It’s ashamed someone without pets has to do this when the neighbors dog won’t stay out your yard and starts destroying the yard. When approaching owner, they just don’t care.

Did you send the neighbors the bill? That's what I'm doing. My new neighbors dogs are digging under my fence. Today, they got under it enough that they scratched my dogs tear duct. So I'm here looking for how to protect my dog.

hi Kurt, thanks for this video. Quick question -- is there anything keeping the upper edge of the vinyl mesh from being pulled away by the dogs, or have you found that to not be a concern? Looks like a great solution but that thought crossed my mind. Thanks!

I have not had this happen, Please make sure you are using 14 gauge wire coated in vinyl. It does help if your bottom fence rail is no more that an inch or two from the ground. You can also wire together long strips of wire.

Why vertical? Why not plain out one foot on each side of the fence about 2" down, pin it and bury it under soil. Their claws will get hung up. Eventually grass will grow over it. Then you don't see chicken wire.

I do it vertical for four reasons: 1. I want to close the gap between the bottom rail of the fence and the ground. 2. A dog can dig up a flat piece of fencing that is only 2" below the surface. 3. I do not like using pins because they rust easily and the dog can dig them up 4. Closing the gap helps keep rabbits and and other animas at bay in addition, the material is not chicken or poultry wire. It is a heavier vinyl coated mesh wire which is very important.

Properly exercise your dog AND walk em. Some need more exercise, attention, and interaction then others. If you cant then you should get cats
