My dad has always been a dog person. He never liked cats. Then, one day, my mom brought home out 1st cat, Fritz. He was a therapy animal for my mom after she had major surgery. Fritz(rest his soul) lived for 16 years, and made my dad act in a way I had never seen before. My dad and Fritz became such good friends. My dad now fosters kittens for local animal shelters. He says, "Fritz changed my mind." He is still very much a dog person, but he now has a soft spot in his heart for cats. Cheers, pops!

That’s really awesome! My family had a dog when I was still only like 13 or 14 and he was a purebred westie (I didn’t really care but my mom insisted) that we named Blizzard. Then one day I found myself at the grocery store with my mom and saw someone giving away kittens. Inside was a small and extremely fluffy black cat with a stubby tail birth defect. It was love at first sight and my mom immediately said “no” when I ran into the store with the little guy in my arms. But we weren’t too far away from home so I decided to run back with him and lo and behold my dad was home, which made me wary… but when he saw the lil guy he said “only for w little while” before running off to buy cat food and litter from the grocery store we had just been at. He became my first cat, Shadow. It solidified the decision more when Blizzard and him started playing! But it’s always funny how dads are the ones who are more protective of pets a lot of times. But it was thanks to this experience that I went on to foster and/or adopt 10 cats over the last several years. Not all of them stayed of course but it was good for me to have a cuddly cat after Shadow lol

It happens to all boys with a big heart, young or old lol. Couple years ago it would be UNTHINKABLE to have a cat in the house, dad was tyrannical about this stuff. Adopted one some time back and now he finds it CUTE when she's sleeping on his chair. She's very talkative so maybe that helped him realize cats are not mindless psychos.
That would break my heart to see cats and dogs that desperate for someone to love and care for them.

BTW the husband clearly has a heart of gold and wears it on his sleeve. Looks like such a sweet man.

That's why shelters here don't give away single cats unless it's a special case where the cat has never been with other cats but primed to humans which often leads to behavioural problems. Cats are NOT solitary animals. They are solitary hunters, but they live in more loosely organised social groups made of smaller groups of cats who have affinities towards each other

@@russellgentile4719 for cats, yes it's very unhealthy for their psychological wellbeing to keep them in cages. Except for the initial quarantine period for new cats, all shelters should have free roaming cat rooms, and a lot do but there are still some that don't have the money. Which is why monetary donations are SUPER important! Amazon Smile is a great way to donate to rescues 😺
@noonenowhere877
Жыл бұрын
@Russell Gentile the trouble is money, if you want to let cats free roam espeacially cats that might have traumatic backgrounds that could lead to them getting into trouble you need space to let them do it in a way that won't lead to them getting lost or hurt. A lot of shelters can't justify devoting that much space to an area like that when they're overpopulated to begin with. So donations are really important just don't donate to PETA because they are a Euthanisia cult masquerading as an animal rights group. None of the money donated goes to actually helping animals it goes to Euthanisia equipment, bailing extremists out of jail out and advertisement campaigns to bring in more suckers. That said not every shelter that euthanises does so for such callous reasons. The trouble with trying to rehome animals is resources yes but also communication people running a charity and using that money on actually running the charity don't get the same support that a group like PETA who puts all the money into advertising actually gets. So taking the time to listen to what a charity needs to do better rather than just condemning the use of cages is important. Also man power is an issue so volunteering to foster or adopt or just lend a hand looking after or watching over animals at your local shelter could be critical to improving the lives of the animals living there.

Sadly, too many sweet loving animals don't luck out like this. I wish I could take them all in. I've always said, "If I ever win the lottery I would build a giant no kill pet sanctuary for unwanted pets so they could live out their lives with good food, shelter, healthcare and as much love as me, my employees and volunteers can give."
That’s a Siamese. They are the most intelligent, and the most loyal and loving cat you can ever find they are 100% special.

I grew up with Siamese cats. As I got older I called them dogs in cat suits. Much more like a dog than a cat. The only problem with them now is that they've been overbred so much over the 6 decades since I had my first one, that you have to be very careful when purchasing a kitten. Once they're mature you know what temperament you're getting. Great video.
We don’t deserve animals. So precious. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I was a dog guy for most of my life. Then my wife’s friend wanted to return her cat Meeko to the shelter. I do not believe in unnecessarily putting animals down and this was a kill shelter. I had her to bring him to us. We bonded. He was my buddy for 11 of his 15 years. He went to the rainbow bridge two years ago and I cried everyday for two weeks straight. Everyday during that time we heard his bell. We have no other bells in our house so we knew it was him coming to visit. My buddy is in his urn in our living room now and I’ve got a new shelter cat named Bootsy but Meeko Kitty is the one that flipped me. Boosty is my new sidekick and I do love him but Meeko Kitty was different. He was our Little Prince. Can’t wait to meet him and the rest of my fur buddies at the bridge when it’s all said and done.

Our Cat had a bad habit of waking my sister up ( and me many times as well ) by going to her door and meowing LOUD. Now, since he passed away about a month ago? I swear I sometimes still hear him meowing, at that same time of the morning he always did :( Kinda knew something was really wrong with him, when he stopped doing it, He was sleeping like 90% of the day. And yeah cats do that often, but not him if we were awake. Like this kitty' when we first adopted Zerro. He had that same sorta "tiny meow" like this one has. But he found his voice pretty quick and as I said, even learned how to YELL when he wanted our attention. lol.

I'm so so glad he found the perfect family. God bless you.

Same. The last time i went to a shelter for their free adoption event I just wandered from cage to cage damn near crying...these poor little guys/gals just need a home and I wound up taking home 2 black kittens! They were way too cute to leave them there....that was 20 years ago and they've since left me but they had the best life I could give them!!

@@ryoga8170This right here...I see stray cats around my house too often, and there's a really fluffy Tabby that I've always wanted to give some love to. But it's not my house, so the most love would just be back scratches while we chill on the porch 🚬

It seems like he found the perfect home with other adopted cats. Such a darling little cat
It's as tho he was closing his eyes, trying to ground himself to the feel of his foot being petted, and pretending he wasn't in the cage. Fighting his anxiety, with healthier coping skills. My friggin heart! 💔🥺
I have been involved in animal charity for many years. During the pandemic resqueing still happened, except adoption options dwindled considerably. Many fosters ended up with a few adoption fails. What's one more. I feel blessed having been able to provide a home and food for those in our care during financially difficult times. Five dogs and 16 cats share our home. Each one is a blessing.
Omg, when I saw him in that cage I wanted to save him sooo badly. I’m so glad he found your husband and your family. ❤️

Eh, no. I owned a cat for 6 years. I'm still a dog person. I loved my cat when I had her, but I don't think I'll be getting another one (she was old when I got her, which is why I only had her for 6 years). I respect that some people are cat people, but even being a cat owner didn't make me a cat person.

This is me lol. I grew up a dog person because both my mom and I were allergic. My mom's allergies are definitely worse and still prevelant. But when I moved out I found a stray kitten and decided to take him in. At first I was taking a lot of benadryl lol. Since then my allergies have mostly subsided or at least are as bad, I guess i assume I've built an immunity, but i dont really know how that works. But I couldn't be happier, and I don't think I could even give my kitties up if they still made me sneeze. They're my babies and I'm Def a cat person now lol.
I’m a Cat dad. Got 3 beautiful fur children who I’d do anything for because they do nothing but bring joy to my life. Animals are amazing, the bond a person & their pets are capable of having might be unmatched
Gorgeous cat 🐈.
You will NEVER go wrong with a cat. They are very smart, you don't have to really train them with a litter box, put then in, they got it. I used to be a dog person too. I have 3 cats and they are my kids. Thank you for saving a cat that will no doubt love you back
I was a dog person.. and i got a cat because one of my colleagues begged me for a month to take the last of the litter. Since now I own 4 cats.. all for are rescues. Cats and dogs are both great. But I never realized nor was I interested in cats. Now that I know.. they are just so awesome... they are really awesome.

Poor stressed kitty-I’m glad he found love!! Other species in distress is such an upsetting thing to see. Now that I’m older, and likely nearing the end, and no longer as afraid (as I once was, as a child) of seeming naïve, I must say: my greatest wish is for everyone to be unfailingly kind to other species … kitties, dogs, goats, cows, birds, piggies, et al. 💔

Cats aren't aloof if they're not handled so much when they're young. Even our cat now is totally focused on food but follows my brother from room to room and sleeps with him every night. When he takes a shower, our cat waits outside of the door and later climbs in the shower. When I'm cleaning out the litterbox, he goes to the bathroom just because he wants to hang out. He also climbs into my shower after I've showered. Cats totally can be as loving as dogs! My brother was cleaning my ear out in the bathtub and our cat jumped up and put his paws on the side of the bathtub. He also lay down on the closed toilet seat even though it had the boxes for the items to clean my ear out. He's just as loving as we are!!
This made me so emotional! The tenderness James expressed with bug was so heartwarming! Thank you for rescuing that beautiful kitty.

Well that's fair, I love cats that behave the way a typical dog would, sociable and cuddly One stray calico cat like this used to live near my house and among all of my neighbours, she liked me the most, she'd sit in my lap and hug and lick me and she was the best cat ever and very sociable, at least towards me, I'd have taken her home if she wanted to I've met many sociable (and not so sociable) cats and I like them all, but I still prefer the way dogs look and act Besides, I adore medium and large dogs, I'd have to adopt a Tiger to fit my taste haha
