Well research your shelter first. Some aren't taking any and others euthanize same day.

The original owner could have passed away, and the dog could’ve got loose or some evil family member dumped the dog

Sometimes an elderly person dies with no will or caregivers; sometimes a person loses everything, including their home, and can no longer care for their beloved pet. Sometimes, the pet's homelessness and abandonment is the byproduct of the abandonment and homelessness of their human, who may have been more vulnerable than you're thinking (elderly, poor, mentally ill, etc.).

There is *never* an excuse to abandon a pet. If grandpa dies and no one takes on his corgi, then they can take them to a shelter. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Right? I’m sure she got adopted quickly. What a love boat! She looks part golden retriever and part some kind of terrier with that wiry fur around her muzzle.

She hasn't got a bad bone in her body ❤ I'm lost for words how anyone could do this. That said, Pumpkin has now got the home she so deserves. 🐾🐾

I know exactly how people can do this. They mean well although they are misguided. They often try to take them to no kill shelters but find that the shelters are full and can't take them. They mistakenly believe that the animals can survive and be happy if they release them so they do. They don't mean to be cruel. They think they are doing the best thing. While I have never done this, I have a relative who has and this was how she was thinking

I think a lot of us don't always consider how exhausting it is for these dogs living on the street (or in the gravel pits). They have to always be on alert, dozing instead of sleeping peacefully, because sleeping deeply makes them so vulnerable to the many many threats out there. It must have been such a relief for her to finally feel safe enough to rest - during her bath, during the brushing, then out like a light on the couch💜

There are so many people out there who think life on the streets is" freedom" and " nature". They don't want to understand that dogs and cats are domesticated animals who need our care. Also pidgeons!

Being loved is the best thing. Of course food, water, shelter and his needs-combing, bathing, vet, some training, and groomer depending on the breed. I have a dog and he knows he is loved.

The transformation from scared survival mode to loving and trusting a human again after being dumped and probably abused before that is so heartwarming. Hope for Paws does tremendous work in saving all kinds of animals.

Watching Pumpkin melt when stroked and given belly rubs, the warm water and gunk out of her coat, and sleeping safe and secure. Animals ask so little from us, love, food, shelter, occasionally medical care from a companion that will give unconditional love and loyalty.

I honestly don’t think she was abandoned, she didn’t seem sad enough for that and she was so quick and happy to lap up all that loving, maybe a runaway from the fireworks around that time of year. The owners should undoubtedly have had her chipped though.

It’s one thing to take a dog to a shelter. It’s another thing to abandon it completely. We adopted four of our dogs from no-kill shelters, and they have been awesome! We still have two of them.

I cried--she was so sweet and didn't deserve such cruel treatment. Thankfully the quarry guys reached out and all ended well, but what pain she had to endure until then.

This sweet girl was betrayed. All these souls give every part of themselves freely, unconditionally and without question. All they really ask for in the 15 or so years they are on this planet is for a safe, full happy contented life with meaning and purpose and what they give in return is immeasurable I so hate those who do not understand what true commitment to these very precious souls are and often see them as expendable when it's convenient.
