To those of you who referred to the motion rig not behaving correctly in a roll. I've now changed a setting in the SRS software from angle to "rate", so it now rolls back after the initial turn. I'll have to try this in VR to see how different it feels compared to before. Thanks for your feedback.

Great video, Steve. @2:42, traditional 3DOF is thought of by many to be roll, pitch and YAW, whilst adding heave, surge and sway brings a motion rig up to 6DOF. Looking forward to seeing you putting your DOF Reality through its paces.

Congrats on finally getting a motion sim Steve! I hope YawVR sends you a demo unit of the YawVR2 one of these days for comparison. I'm surprised they haven't already. I tried it out at Flight Sim Expo 2021. The demo was using Xplane 11 on a laptop, low quality, laggy connection, Quest 2. Even with that, my brain was telling me I was flying a plane. The range of motion on the Yaw 2 really sells it... with the ability to pitch backwards to around 70 degrees. When I pulled back the throttle and put the nose up, I went backwards to match. Quite the thrill! The built-in haptics were phenomenal, I felt everything.

Gday Steve. Thanks for your all your content, I’ve been hanging out for this vid for so long. I’ve ordered a yaw2 pro with 3dof and am literally waiting for almost the exact same things you’ve talked about in your last few videos. I’ve been set on buying the pimax Crystal and the u-shake 6, already have the sim racing studios fans, so I’m super excited to see how good things get for you over the next few months. What you said about being close to real flying has been my justification to spend as much as I’m gonna spend on all this. There is no reason we can’t completely match the experience of flying a standard (non jet) plane in VR. We can basically match all the peripherals and once VR reaches human eye resolution, with arm tracking and a good motion rig etc. We can have our own plane in the spare bedroom and fly anywhere in the world for cheaper than it costs to get a pilot licence or buy a small aircraft. It’s an awesome time to be alive. Can you believe I still haven’t even played MSFS yet. I’ve pretty much watched every video you’ve made, but I wanna just have my mind blown when I’ve got everything set up. It’s been so hard watching your excitement and still holding my patience. I’m just hanging for that maiden flight, in an open cockpit plane with the fans blowing and the visuals of the crystal. Looking forward to your next vids

To limit the need for motion cancellation you can go to 'Tuning' in SRS while it is running and under 'Advance' change the 'Roll' selection from 'Angle' to 'Rate' this is actually more correct for a aircraft that mainly uses co-ordinated flyt. Eg. Look at your 172 instrument bubble while you are in a turn.

Hi Steve, great vid, and I have been thinking of getting a DOF motion platform for sometime now, but have backed off because of some negative feedback from people who have experienced some problems with the motors, ie, jerky movements etc. Can I ask who was the supplier of your motion platform, and are there any UK suppliers, and thank you so much for all the vlogs you have done. You are the reason I got into vr in the first place. I have had real world flying lessons in the past, but really expensive so gave up, this is the next best thing, and so much cheaper. It's always great to see something knock you sideways (in a good way) like this Steve. My request: please try out solid IMC, maybe (once you're on top of it) fly a manual ILS approach with cloudbase and visibility both down to minimums. It's way too easy to stay on the instruments without motion, but I suspect that this will make even straight and level flight much more like the challenge it really is. One solution to falling out of the seat while banking would be to fit a harness to it 😄 And just like that, another checklist item becomes relevant.

How is the H2 vs H3 for flight sim? Is it necessary to have the extra yaw movement for realism? I also heard that the H2 can be upgraded to the H3.

A motion platform is what I'm missing in my setup, so thanks for the first reaction video. You ask what is still missing, but the G-forces are the one thing I remember when I flew which I don't think this would simulate. Example, pushing the nose down, sure you pitch, but you won't feel light in the seat. But hey, if you can't fly in real life, why not get as close as you can for the sensation of realism.

Well done for getting the DOF Reality H2. I have the DOF Reality H6. I have had it for a couple of years. I upgraded to the new gearboxes last year. It is absolutely incredible! A few words of advice…. The biggest problem is motion compensation. As far as I know there is no solution as yet. The motion compensation in the SimRacing Studio software relates to a little accelerometer you can buy (about £30) BUT it ONLY works with Steam (so it will work with x-plane). Be warned it is a pain in the butt and very temperamental. For MSFS, the secret is that less is more. Newbies are tempted to crank up the motion…. That will result in you sliding out of the cockpit as you showed in the video. Turn settings right down and this will improve matters considerably…. It is a bit like your advice to tone down graphics settings…. You don’t need fill motion of the seat. Also, add a buttkicker under the seat to get maximum effect…. Trust me 😊 If you come across a solution to the motion compensation problem I would love to hear about it. Not even Varjo have been able to crack this (I have written to them). Last week I flew a full sized 6-Axis A320 sim in Manchester. Believe me, the experience was not that much better than what get when I fly the Phoenix A320 with my 6-Axis seat. I have even suffered mild air sickness when flying over a hot desert with bumpy air all around! Enjoy!!!!! I love my rig and cannot fly without it.

Excellent video! What I'd really like to see is if you could put someone who can't usually use VR because of motion sickness on the platform with the transducer seat and see if it helps that person's level of sickness. I reckon it would help if not completely alleviate the VR motion sickness because the vestibular/ocular disconnect wouldn't be there anymore

I've been flying using a DOF Reality H2 motion rig for over a year now, along with two haptic transducers under the seat for Buttkicker like vibrations. The first time I flew with it I literally burst out laughing, as it was just so much fun. It takes a bit of fine tuning to get it right and less is more for flight sims, as you really just need the accelerations acting on your inner ears to trick the brain, rather than big movements.

@@lvx4408 I'm not familiar with the Yaw2, so couldn't say. DOF are OK but the freight charges are really high. Much better to make your own if you are able; there are a number of forums dedicated to DUI motion platforms and there is open source software to drive them. My comment about less is more for VR flight sims meant that you don't really need to full range of motion to fool the brain into feeling the illusion of being in the air.

Just as has been the case for many with TrackIR and VR, I bet this is one tool you will never do without after now. Personally, I have only gone as far as TrackIR but its something I often do without in MSFS because of my settings brouhaha. It's much too jittery for my liking in a civilian flying sim like MSFS but I'm forced to adapt to it with IL-2 Sturmovik.

Hi. I have the P2 with the SIMRACINGSTUDIO software. Its good, but i am running P3d as its got the Duxford airshow scenery and ive got all the old warbirds from A2A and Justflight. I know you can set up the motion in the software where you can control the amount of pitch and roll as well as speed. However what i am still missing is the bit where you Taxi like you have and get the bumps and all sorts feeding through the motion simulator motors. Please could you tell me what settings i may need to look at. I am aware that different platforms will transmit different degrees of telemetry info. Thanks
