    Fwiw, from memory a standard automatic XYGT ran 1/4 mile in 15.5 secs; manual in 15.2; finish line speed would be approximately 85-90 mph. The only test I've ever seen back in the day in Ph3 HO was a 14.2. Finish line speed would be approx 95-97mph. I always felt that with a good driver (experienced at drag racing GT/HO's) and a well tuned engine/correct tyre pressures they would run (in stock form) high 13's @ 100mph'ish. That XYGT in this video appears to have a very high stance for a standard car. Both beautiful cars regardless.

    the GTHO was available with different diff gears, so hard to put a quarter time on it, although most accept the 14.7 time that I think Wheels set. Remember that skinny cross ply tyres means lots of wheel spin too. The Phase II, according to an old article, ran a best of 13.9 at a drag strip, with attention paid to tyre pressures etc.

    It isn't quite that simple. 'Take' in what context? Is the HO a more significant car than the GT-F? Most likely, yes. Is the modern car more capable and easy to use in pretty much every way? You'd hope so. Would I buy a HO to use as day-to-day transport? Even if I had more money than Bill Gates, I'd think twice about that one. I'd buy one as a collector / investor, maybe, if I had the money, and yes, I'd take it out and play with it a little bit, at least once. But not as a regular driver. Would I take a GT-F as a daily driver? ... Not my first choice, but I'd sure have one over a HO. I'd like an XR6T and turn up the boost a bit. Even stock, I'd take that over the V8 but double the power (which is not hard to do) and there's no contest.

    ***** Depends in what CONTEXT. As an investment? As an item of value? A HO is worth 10 times, more than 10 times what a GT-F is. Ok, but which one is a better *car*? It depends on what you want it for. A Stradivarius is a wonderful violin, but it's a silly thing to dig a ditch with. There's no way on earth a HO is an easier or better day to day car than a modern one.

    9 жыл бұрын

    Ok I will put this to you if I put a supercharger on my phase 111 and boost it at exactly the same boost as FPV GT-F you know it is over on a quarter mile for your modern car but I admit in a track situation handling is a major factor and would most likely see the modern car as the victor and also fuel economy stakes. (( however I have seen plenty of 10 and eleven second old school falcons (quarter mile times) without blowers)) and this is way back in the early 90's when I was going to drag strips so I highly doubt it would walk away as the victor (my opinion and I agree to disagree with you on this)

  • @herbe3746

    @herbe3746

    9 жыл бұрын

    like I said I agree to disagree and yes most of the cars at the drags were modified but you could have "blueprinted and balanced" ported and polished the heads played with various cam grinds cc'ed the engine all in your own garage at home and go run 11's 12's all day on the skinny tyres as you say, well what if we put the same size tyres on one as well as the supercharger it would easily walk away from the new car and if we bothered to add hill born fuel injection and toss the carb over our shoulder wow so left for dead, and all cars are mechano sets as you say and 140 mph as you say was not the speed when it crossed the line for 14.4 sec if it crossed the the line at 140 mph ((maybe diff gearing could be played with to achieve this from factory as it may have been an option although 3.25 gears springs to mind)) it would have done 11's 12's if it hooked up at its top speed across the line but as we all know if you go to lower gears top speed is affected so it may have more likely been mid or low 13's without to many mods other than diff ratio any way again i agree to disagree and I wouldn't know much from my 20 yrs as a mechanic, what are the quarter mile times from this car in "factory" trim I can not seem to find many figures weight of car diff ratios etc etc but basically in the beginning as i said comparing supercharged cars to N/A is just ridiculous to say the least do we compare pro stock cars to door slammers (slightly unfair if you did) same goes here and yes I love old cars because they were made by hands not robots. PS I have enjoyed this conversation

    No Holden or Charger from that era could match the top end of a GTHO Phase 3.The fastest one was recorded at 154 mph at Bathurst.

    The actual explanation for this is fuel changing from leaded to unleaded (catalytic converters in the 70's), tightening emissions for all cars and that car weighs a lot less.

    I mean lets be honest, the Falcon GT was slow as fuck and handled like a dogs breakfast like most of the cars back then, not hard to make an improvement on performance. but then you take something that looks so tough and iconic and make it look like a taxi. thats pretty fucked.

    What a waste of u tube space really, why dont they compare that same GT F with the GEN F HSV GTS, after all its the top of the ranges for both manufacture's ? Anything to have FORD as something special when in fact its nothing new, just believe in the hipe about a car, when it comes down to it, so if the insurance company's agree with the pricing, NOPE unless you want to pay for chosen Value then pay for it. :)

    Here, here, so much carry on about the GTF when HSV has been making cars that out accelerate & out handle this thing since 2013.... in reality the GTf compared with the LSA clubsport, the clubsport is same money, more features & at least if not quicker in a straight line... Oh & much better inclusions & technology.. Hell the seats are 20 times nicer.. Ford is overpriced considering.

    How many lsa's do you see on the road? Fucking none. 100g for 300rwkw hahahha that's fg xr6t with a tune power levels. No one buys holdens. Boosted fpvs and boosted sixes are the ideal platform for big cheap reliable power. Hsv is dead.

    A 400 kw LSA clubsport can be had for 76k new now, with it comes a bigger diff, bigger box, (both oil cooled) nice brakes, 100 times nicer seats & interior, collision alert, & park assist. On top of that an air box & simple tune take them to 475 kw. And these things have been tested to death & have proven to be bullet proof. I have an XR6 turbo, as do some mates, Ive had my turbo lunch itself early, my mates one also, $1200 to rebuild. And another friend had his G6 turbo lunch itself in first 50 000k.... They are neat cars, but not even in remotely the same league as an LSA. As for 300 rwkw, read the articles floating around about how ford tried to supress the first results, then look at their carry on, others have also got dyno results of 311 rwkw from heaps of miamis. Regarless every single video still shows every GTS auto or manual flogging the ford... Even after the ford has 55 goes to get its overboost on... And 85 ford engineers present to make sure it actually went. HSV didn't say a word, only ford whining Hahahaha

    +never late over boosts is a timing map. Like any boosted car it shouldn't be on boost until all engine temps are up. Yeah they only get beaten by journalists. Go to the track where 245 wheels aren't fitted and watch them run low 12s. Unlike the Holden there's no traction below 3rd gear. Sucks all your 6ts are shit mine makes a happy 490rwkw on 20psi all for under 10g and hasn't missed a beat for 2.5 years and 70thou ks.

Ph3 EVERYDAY! years to come all the plastic on that new thing will be all hard brittle and cracked and there wont be much available to restore one with only a small run of 500 or so!

    ....... I'm a holden fan and I love the XY GT......... But never have I seen such a flop onwards, their cars are soft and sluggish. And are generally very "cheap" but not in a good oh this car was actually pretty cheap. You are still paying the same amount but getting less for your money over quite a few commodore models. Not here to hate, both these cars are awesome. But I just have to point out that ford has been forgotten in the media for quite some time and its not because they have "been paid off by holden"........
