Hey you 🙎♂️ Please hit that SUBSCRIBE button! It just takes a second - In today’s video, I answer the question “Does Radiofrequency Cause Facial Fat Loss?” This is one of the most common questions I receive, so here’s an easy-to-understand explanation of radiofrequency fat loss and the risks.
RF is considered a safe and effective treatment for tightening the skin, reducing the visible signs of aging including wrinkles and sagging, improving collagen production, and reducing the size of pores.

But does Radiofrequency cause facial fat loss?
Every single treatment comes with potential side effects, surgical, non-surgical and topical. Touted as the ultimate non-surgical facelift - Radiofrequency is no different. One of the biggest concerns people have is facial fat loss. After all, facial fat keeps the skin looking younger, plumper, and less wrinkled. As we age, our levels of collagen and elastin diminish and fat begins to disappear. These all help the skin retain its structure and firmness.
One way to avoid this is to keep the volume inside high. This is why facial fat is a good thing!
How does RF work?
RF works by heating and causing thermolysis to the dermis and hypodermis without injuring the epidermis. In turn, this encourages the body to begin wound repair, boosting collagen. This is achieved using Ohm’s law - when the tissues natural resistance to electron movement generates heat relative to the current and time they are interacting.
In simple terms, it heats up the lower layers of skin, causing a thermal injury and breaking down collagen, which then sends a signal for the body to start the repair process.
Thermolysis breaks down more than just collagen though, it also targets fat. Fat has a high electrical resistance and is believed to heat up at up to 7 times faster than the cells of the dermis when in contact with RF. The higher the electrical resistance, the more damage it will experience.
The damaged skin and fat cells release DAMPs (Damage associated molecular pattern molecules) which signal other cells of potential danger. If these DAMP signals are too strong, they can trigger apoptosis, which is programmed cell death. This can last for many weeks or months, depending on the severity.
Coolsculp specifically uses this process to break down fat, which then takes around 6 weeks to reach its peak. RF possess this same potential.
Will RF Destroy facial fat then?
RF absolutely has the potential to cause fat loss. For some, this can be seen as a positive, for others, not so much.
In-office treatments heat the dermis and hypodermis to between 55-60c, while home devices usually achieve between 30 and 40.4c. Fat cells begin to experience damage at around 40-41 degrees.
Temperature isn’t the only factor though. Treatment duration and regularity also play a huge role.
Many people assume RF can be used daily like other home treatment devices - not true. You need to give your body time to regenerate collagen and elastin, which takes between 4 - 8 weeks.
So to sum it up, RF can cause facial fat loss if overused, used for too long at high temperatures or used on fat that’s close to the skin surface, such as under the eyes.
I hope you enjoy this Radiofrequency Skin Tightening Guide. Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Lida, Did you experience the volume loss after using it one time or multiple times? How long after did you start to notice? Instantly or much later? I just got the Mlay machine and used it just one time on the highest setting all over my face for twenty minutes and now I'm really worried. It says the highest setting is 149F. My face immediately felt sore and achy in certain spots so I googled RF side effects and found fat loss info. For anyone reading this any help is appreciated!

@@chrismaxx8528 I keep checking different angles in all different lighting, trying to see if I can find any volume loss or dents. It's so hard to tell. I feel like my skin looks dull and sallow since I used RF. It doesn't look as bouncy and healthy as it did before. I haven't seen any tightening, but I was wondering if on us younger people, like me and you and all of us who don't have any sagging..would we see results like someone with sagging skin would see. I feel like I'm always trying to do things to prevent any signs of aging before they start, and in doing so, I mess something up and wish I hadn't touched my face. I'm not gonna use my RF machine again. There's a site called sciencebecomesher.com with an article about radiofrequency and all the comments are horror stories about RF volume loss. I'm gonna stick with just microcurrent and red led light. If you do try it, I'd start with the lowest heat for just a few minutes. I definitely went too hot for too long in just one use and it was a big mistake. Here's the link sciencebecomesher.com/?s=Radiofrequency

@@marissac713 Hey I’m really sorry to hear. I’m on board with what your saying. I used micro current on my face hard when I first got it and I’m not sure but I might have done damage or it’s just aging. Thank you for the info. I know they say it takes sometime for the collagen to build again, so maybe you just have to wait alittle longer. Especially if you started off strong. I looked online regarding fat loss in face it looks like there are ways to increase volume back. With fish oil supplements, Shea butter on the face, and eating healthy fats like coconut oil, avocado oil, and olive oil, maybe this might help. I hope it does!

My first RF left under eyes a little lax, so now only focusing on fatty festoons and under the chin and jawline as I am mid 50's and them fatty little deposits are catching up (have lost quite a bit of weight naturally over the last year also). I am also using Dr's Pen for micro needling which I know you do also TJ, so can treat whole face area with that without risk of unwanted fat loss. Using 1.5mm depth once a month, and nano every week or two at around 0.1-0.2mm with serums. Also I believe you should not use RF around the thyroid gland, and for anyone with the start of 'chicken neck' like me, micro needling is probably a safer option there. Overall my approach to RF and combining micro needling/nano needling, OMG, smoothest skin for - as long as I can remember and age spots fading. Neck starting to tighten up. Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I was very cavalier about skincare and I did RF treatment too often and at too high of a setting 1 1/2 years ago and this caused facial fat loss in my cheeks, which then caused some dropping jowls. So then I started to research fibroblasting for addressing my jowls, and this brought me to your page (with your fibroblasting videos). So thank you for posting this video, I wish someone would have told me about the risks of using RF before I used the "more must be better" approach. You've potentially saved many people from making the same mistake.

i'm sorry that happened to you! but i appreciate you sharing your experience. i'm kind of confused though, because doesn't the device tighten your skin at the same time? or maybe the skin tightening happens at a slower rate than the fat loss does, i guess?

Heyyyy. Actually, one of my closest friends is a board certified cosmetic surgeon and his advice is invaluable. (Much of what I then put into my videos). The problem is that there are too many money-hungry clinics out there that will tell bare-faced lies, get you in, treat you where you don't need it and and leave you looking worse than before. Obviously, there are an equal number of decent experts out there who do put the person first, but with so much misinformation, I am trying to put the record straight and help people understand the risks a little bit more before they get talked into something they don't need. Thanks for the beautiful comment 😊

Yes, RFMN has ruined my face. I did 3 sessions a month apart each for acne scars and within months my skin lost firmness, lost under eye fat and developed under eye hollowness and my cheeks dropped. My skin was tight before the proceedures. When i informed the dermatologist she said she went only 1.5mm in depth and it’s very unlikely that the treatment would have caused the side effects. People, just stay away from any procedure, accept the natural ageing process.

  • @TJTutorials

Three sessions in a month 😱😱😱 no wonder you had issues afterwards 😔 Three sessions in a year would be pushing it, let alone in just 4 weeks - and your treatment provider should have known that already. I'm sorry you've had to endure all of those after effects, it must be very hard to deal with. Volume loss is normal after the initial swelling subsides as the collagen bonds denaturise, ready to be replaced and replenished over the coming year - but it definitely sounds like the heat penetrated into the subcutaneous layer, which can easily be as shallow as 1mm in certain areas of the face and body 1.5mm. Do you know if the needles were insulated or not? Also, if you have one to use, daily microcurrent on the cheeks and jawline area can help add a little lift and firmness back. Thank you for sharing your experience and I hope your confidence stays strong. ❤️

Is low and high frequencies used for skin treatments, low frequencies going deeper (few millimeters) and can destroy fat cells if you use it for to long or very frequently that is the reason why low frequencies are also used for body fat reduction in some areas, in the other side is high frequencies going only few microns deeper and can be used more often, also are very helpful in hair treatments because increase blood circulation in the scalp.
