Does MLB HATE home runs? The new outfield wall at Camden Yards is BAD for baseball

Спорт

What were they THINKING?! I knew this was gonna be bad. EVERYONE knew it was gonna be bad. Even my dad knew it was gonna be bad and he's dead. The new left field wall in Baltimore, in my opinion, is an absolute disaster, and to be fair, the old wall was problematic too. It used to be embarrassingly easy for MLB players to hit home runs, but now that 10 rows of seats have been removed, it's absurdly difficult. Of course now it's more crowded because you have the same number of fans with less space for everyone to spread out. Want to catch a baseball there? Ha! I recommend that you sit somewhere else.
UGH!!!
And yet . . . Camden Yards is still a nice stadium overall.
This game between the Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Guardians took place on June 3, 2022. It was a Friday night. There were fireworks. There was an Adley Rutschman T-shirt giveaway. And I was surprised/delighted to see a little bit of batting practice upon entering. How many baseballs did I catch? How rowdy were the fans? Is Triston McKenzie the most fan-friendly player? Was Adley finally able to hit his 1st MLB dinger? That's the main reason why I was there -- to catch it!

Coming from an Orioles fan, yes Zack we did hate all the home runs we gave up, but moving the wall back will also attract elite free agent pitchers in the future

They used stats to back up the renovation, they didn’t guess how many seats to remove. I forget the numbers but it’s somewhere like they give up 2x as many homers to the area of that park than they hit on their own.

Hey, Zack! So, if the new dimensions "scare off" free agent hitters, they're just not ready for the bigs in the first place. Legit power hitters can reach 384' in their sleep! Austin Hays took one to the second-deck in left the other night, in the rain, and he's nowhere near a bonafide power hitter. Anything new in life, takes an adjustment period to get used to. I'm sure, the first couple times you went to stadiums you weren't familiar with, it took some time to adjust. I love the wall and new dimensions, it's long overdue. It validates the true power guys, and gives hitters with less power something to strive for. The original dimensions were a joke Zack, and you know it. Routine fly balls to left, would float over the wall if there was a slight breeze. A hard line-drive that would be a long single anywhere else in the league, would get over the wall. The weather definitely played a part early on, too. It felt like cold weather hung around extra long this year. The new wall/outfield dimensions isn't the problem in Baltimore. The lack of respect for the fans', by turning a once proud organization into a complete laughing stock, is the problem. This current organization doesn't have a clue, that's why the stadium is empty night-after-night/year-after-year. Unfortunately, I don't see things changing for the better anytime soon!

I disagree, I think it’s great for baseball. Not everything needs to be a home run, and it forces both the away team and the Orioles to be either more powerful, or preferably, learn how to win games with fewer home runs. Plus, it doesn’t really make Anthony Santander hit any fewer home runs 👍🏼

Zack, I think now is a good time to vent my frustrations. As a kid I relished the opportunity to go to Forbes Field in Pittsburgh ( yes I am that old" for batting practice. I now live in Maryland and frequent Camden Yards. The frustration is, they don't let you in the ballpark for batting practice. I believe that teams that have that policy can improve attendance by letting the fans in earlier for bp. If you have any influence, and you most certainly do by your KZread subscribers, petition the teams to open up for bp. I would be the first to sign such a petition. Keep the content coming. I enjoy your videos and am living my dream through your baseball travels. Peace brother.

I don’t understand why stadium layouts especially the perimeter of the playing field is being changed at some of these stadiums, just leave well enough alone. MLB needs to stop changing the game and there was absolutely nothing wrong with how the game has been played and there’s nothing wrong with the stadiums the way they were built originally especially in regards to Camden Yards. MLB leave these iconic stadiums alone and stop changing things that don’t need to be changed.

Plus, the O’s have hit several home runs in left. So, I understand the perspective that as a fan of the other teams that it’s frustrating, but I love it.

I don’t understand why they pushed the wall back so far. The old wall wasn’t even that short compared to other ballparks. I could understand moving the wall back like 5ft but they went way too far.

Taking out even a row or two would be fine but taking out all these seats is just odd and makes on days like this the park more crowded in the parts where people will be.

Thank you! If you peep the description for any video, I always say near the end who filmed/edited. This one was done by Rachel Messbauer, who just so happens to be one of my favorite people of all time.

Giving me Bowser Castle vibes. Specifically the thwomps. If the outfielders themselves aren't enough to rob homers, the thwomps act as extra walls.
