Rosenberg doesn’t understand that two things can be true simultaneously in this case. You can respect Cole for being genuine to his feelings, while still acknowledging that he can no longer rap greasy about being the best without proving it.
Competitive Rap is a sport. J Cole lost because he started to play the game, then took his ball and went home.

Kendrick didn’t have a problem with Cole saying he was the best until he linked up with Drake. Cole been saying “only man above me is God himself, all these other niggaz is below me” since Forbidden Fruit in 2013”. He did it again on Forrest Hills and Kendrick never approached him. What we have to acknowledge is there’s a dynamic we have to pay attention to which is Cole being stuck in the middle of two of his friends that have real tension between them. Him clapping back at Kendrick (with the Energy sample) makes it look like he chose sides. That extends well beyond just friendly competition.

Lol, Cole has made a prefect conundrum...
I’m convinced these ppl are just contrarians or on pay roll bc bro, we can respect him being honest with himself, but if you’re unwilling to defend what you say about yourself, I can’t take you seriously as an emcee. Only positive folding clothes bars from here
Stop the fucking CAP in hiphop if u say I'm the best... if Jesus ask for a feature I'm going to hell and then when they test him he ducks it?! Yea he can't talk like that again! Still a great artist but he left the competition.
Imagine apologizing to the dude who said your discography is a light pack. Then you expect people to still see you as the best. It's impossible to recover from that.

You know damn well that title isn't literally saying the same thing as what he ended up doing.
Yes. It takes him out. Period.
You can't be Thee #1 in hiphop if you don't battle. There is certainly a lane for him, but he can't be Thee #1
This is certainly the most nuanced discussion on the topic. Thank you for this. Very fair on both sides. He made a mistake, and i do agree itd be best if Cole just laid back and said "Nah, I'm not pickin a side, I'm cool with both of you." But hindsight is 20/20 at the end of the day.
Rose just told me he don’t know hip hop. I kinda already knew but this confirmed it
Rosenberg gotta cut it out. I get it’s for the sake of argument but come on bro 😒
Ebro 👏🏾
Its annoying how these ppl keep moving the goalpost as if J cole wasn't himself declaring to be THAT GUY. Rosenberg is wrong af there have been many #1s In hip hop he sounds stupid as hell.
3 reasons you can't disqualify drake 1.) he defends himself when challenged. Drake is sooo petty. He's been in the ring 3 times. Drake still has issues with so many rappers. He makes a song about dogs, says one slick line about Future and moves on. Drake been talking slick to kendrick for the past 6 years. 2.) This whole thing is because of Drake. People linking up choosing sides. This whole thing circulates around Drake. He is the main character. 3.) When it comes to hip-hop it's Drake, kendrick and Cole. When it comes to music overall it's Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Drake. Thats why you can't disqualify Drake.

Salute to Ebro! His ability to break this down for the people that want to act clueless, like Rosenberg, is necessary in the culture.
Just reminder for context for this position, Rosenberg is a small hat. A small hat trying to dictate what rules are made up in hip hop is crazy work and y'all letting him slide. Vultures trying to say what hip hop is and isn't.

That's the bigger picture. Hip-Hop was created by literal teenagers and no one ever expected people in their 30s and late 40s to be the leaders of the culture ("You're 38 and you still rappin', Ugh!" - The Game). We're still playing by High School rules and peer pressure and it would have been much easier for Cole to just play along.... but he's standing on his own principles. I respect the hell out of that, but the majority of the people won't tbh. Why stress yourself out, to appease people that would easily cast you aside as some of his "fans" are doing?

@@Dezzyyx Side-note for semantics: Rap lacks the physical component required to be considered a "sport". It's NOT a sport, it is an artform. With that being said, I'll take what you're saying as "rap is competitive." Call it "high school", "peer pressure", "barbershop talk", "social media" or whatever you want, Cole has expressed that he felt gassed to respond because of how it would have looked not to. Because rap is an artform, I understand how an artist can feel as though he's selling out, when he's pandering, catering to, or creating art that he himself doesn't agree with. As I stated earlier, it would have been easier for Cole (a person who writes raps for a living) to WRITE RAPS at Kendrick - he's definitely capable. It is much harder for him to go the road that he went, so I disagree that he's "saving face". Just my opinion and no disrespect intended.
@MillionaireHoyOriginal

@@JamesSmith-pc7vy Unfortunately, it's to be expected that some "fans" will turn on Cole. Unfortunately, Hip-hop is like a snake eating it's own tail. The "there can only be one king" mentality, or appeal to "out with the old, in with the new" or should I say what's "Fresh" or what's "Played Out" is why although Rap is the most popular genre in music, the artists are less paid and have shorter careers than the likes of Pop, Country or Rock artists, who have NEW fans for decades old music that support their concerts, merch, endeavors and brands overall. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones competed with each other, but they didn't go at each other's necks or diminish each other's brands. People can say that rap is a "competitive sport", but what it actually is is crabs in a barrel. Teenagers in New York created Hip-hop and now the mecca of Hip-hop has a small rap scene. Why? Because they competed and cities like Atlanta collaborated.
J Cole predicted his own demise with his last album title “The Fall Off”. He also did it with his new project “Might Delete Later”
Why is Rosenberg acting like this? He popped out on FPS. Kendrick flexed on em. He folded. You telling me he would still be on level with or even above K Dot?! You crazy bro
