I just bought this exact model as my first and only Seiko. I am pleasantly surprised by the accuracy! I really love the way it sits on my wrist, perfect proportions. I just ordered an aftermarket oyster bracelet from straocode…will see how that suits the Spb147. All in all, the amazing look, the quality and (in my case) great movement with a real 70h of power reserve makes it a killer watch and is worth every penny I bought it for!

I did exactly as you, bought the SPB 147 (no lume pip by my date window) and eventually put it on a Strapcode metal bracelet, looks great however on mine one of the end links has some play so not a perfect fit.

The watch is coated in Seiko's propriety Diashield which gives the stainless steel of the case a grayish tint. An aftermarket bracelet is not going to exactly match the case of the watch. I sourced an OEM bracelet from ebay for $250.00. The seller had removed it from a SPB149 (talk about not being a bracelet guy), so it has the same coating and matches perfectly. It takes the watch to another level. In my opinion, the added presence of the SS bracelet tones down the gilt on the dial a bit. Gnomon watches also sells the OEM bracelet for $290.00. It was confirmed for me by email that they are coated in Diashield.

They added the 3:00 lume pip prior to the 2021production. The one I have is from Dec of 2020 and has it.

My SPB143 looks awesome on the gray Bond Nato strap I got from Mr. Bond. If you have one of these watches get one of these Natos for it. You won't be disappointed.

Extra lume pip not an issue but they should have kept the beveled edge around the date window. I have the older SPB143 and it's a keeper running minus 5 secs out of the box.

I have my SPB 147 since the end of April, it was in a short list of watches I wanted to get, and oddly enough wasn't my first choice. My other two choices weren't available at my local dealer (Knar Jewelry in Oakville) that was doing curbside pickup, seeing this watch in person changed my mind, I'm glad I did. I have one of the earlier versions without the 3 o'clock lume pip, I could care less either way because the dial is gorgeous. Seiko pretty much hit it out of the ball park. Now, I also agree, the OEM strap while soft is only ok. I wound up getting an Uncle Seiko tropic strap and that's been on my 147 ever since.

Another fantastic review Oleg. Your dead right the unsigned crown would of been one of Jody’s niggles for sure. Does nothing for me this watch, I get the vintage vibe but it’s a plain Jane really. Never heard Bond snoring either.

The dial looks very interesting. I wouls say i am a fan of the "brownish" dial. Seiko did nail it with this model.

Seiko SPB 145: love it!

Bond is just bored as you didn't buy an aftermarket strap from him. Great video and great watch, I agree a signed crown is a must, how much does it really add to the price.

Lovely watch, you are right though with the crown. It's a little let down that even at this price range they still aren't signing the crown

I had the earlier version without the lume marker by the date. Much prefer that. It was a was a fantastic watch. Not at first. It ran like sh!t out of box at at least -30 s/d. I regulated myself and it became one of my best accurate watch at around+1.5 s/d. Bezel action was great and perfectly aligned. Love the tones of this one. Perfectly patina'd.. I personally don't think it was over done. I've seen much more before. I'd say overall the look is rather subtle. The bezel isn't black but a dark grey. The gold is a more pale gold tone and not THAT yellow. The lume is just creamy enough. I think the blue glow compliments both the brown and gold tones. Even the diashield tones down the stainless steel and makes it look a little grey. All these elements combined make it very soft, warm and pleasing to the eyes. I did get the OEM bracelet for it as it should have the diashield and match the stainless steel tone of the watch.. although it is ridiculously expensive at nearly $300. I might be reluctant to try anything aftermarket as I doubt they will have diashield coating and not match the watch case exactly. I would definitely say this is Seiko's BB58 equivalent model line. A modern interpretation of early heritage dive watch for respective brand.

It's pretty sad that such a beautiful and pricey watch has such an erratic time accuracy out of the box.. I have been on the fence wanting to buy this timepiece for a while but the cheap movement puts me off each time;(

I have for one and a half year and the movement has two different personalities: on and off the wrist it can go to - 20 sec/day; always on the wrist (not taking off for sleeping, just for taking a shower) goes pretty good: in average - 2 / -3 sec/day!

The cherry on top your video was the snoring. Lol. You could do a video of just Mr. Bond and his snoring abilities. 😜

I like the lume pip at the 3 o'clock I don't like the way it interrupts the minute track it looks a bit like an afterthought to me Cheers and sweet dreams Mr Bond

I got lucky and was able to source the OEM bracelet that came off the LE version. It was $250.00 on ebay. It takes the watch to the next level! Before happening upon that deal, I'd done some searching and Gnomon watches offers the factory bracelet with Diashield coating, like the case, for $290.00. This was verified by email. The Diashield coating gives the SS a grayish hue and an aftermarket bracelet will not be an exact match to the case. That personally wasn't going to work for me, although it would've been a less expensive option. I blame that on my OCD when it comes to my watches. It's an incurable sickness! Great video. Still some what over priced. On a side note, the crown is not knurled, knurling is a crosshatch pattern.

Such a great watch, I just don't like the "Gen 2" dial with the added lume marker at 3 o clock. I feel it throws the symmetry off. But it does look fantastic overall. Great video brotha 😁👍

So if it was your money, would you buy this watch? Just asking because I picked up the SPB213 about a month ago when it was released in Canada. Returned it after three days, liked the size, profile and quality of the watch, but not for C$1750.

Yep, I got it and returned it then bought 2 San Martin 62mas homage which has better finishes, better specs and only cost me $470 for both the grey and blue one……Seiko’s price is getting so ridiculous now……for Omega, Longine, Ball, Sinn, prices for a Seiko? If it is a Grand Seiko, now, that’s a different story!

Are there two versions of the 147? I see some with lume @ 3 and others without it ? This looks like 239 without the nato straps ?

I'v always contemplated to get this even after I got my BB58. Thinking this could be a daily beater gilt watch. But I NEVER have any good perfect seiko, always misalignments and bad timekeeping with my 2 previous prospex watches. Now this watch just looks boring to me after months of watching reviews even when I couldve gotten it at $400 cheaper.

If it had come on a bracelet I would have bought this over the SPB143.

I haven’t had any problems with 6R35 movements personally. But there are some stories on the forums of people having to send their watches for repairs.

Look, I love this watch but £6000 or even £1500 its too much for a retro fashion peice with Seikoon the dial......£500 more than a Muhle Pro Mare...Seilo's price structure has gone chuffing tonto, this watch would be great value at £700 but at or near £2000 the value equation falls off a cliff for this brand, same goes for prospex and presage.

Not worth a 1000 dollars, apart from the "chocolate/mocha" dial it just looks like a generic Seiko. (Almost like a Casio Duro) It wouldn't have killed anyone to sign the crown, and especially for 1000 dollars I think you can get a better watch.

I disagree with the signed Crown argument. I have dressier seiko's that are a bit cheaper with signed crowns. I have more expensive dress sport watches with signed crowns. They are prettier, finer watches. I also have an alpinist without a signed crown. This all makes sense to me as my pretty watches are for indoor events and my outside watches should not have signed crowns. A cleanlined diver and my alpinist are rugged outdoor watches. No signed crown. That is completely appropriate to me. Neither one of those watches has to go to dinner or a symphony with me.

I DO NOT care about a signed crown. To me it will take away from the tool look of the watch. Plus its just an engrave “S” nothing fancy or special that adds to the look of the watch.

To be honest, pretty underwhelming..

I would NEVER pay 1,000$+ CAN for a Seiko. Plenty of other options instead, so overrated
