    Another possible confounding factor could be as simple as personality or even presence of ADHD. If you have ADHD you are more likely to have a larger number of sexual partners, and you are also more likely to go through marital issues, both caused independently by things like high impulsivity. Or you could generally have a personality in which you get bored easily with your partners. But yeah so many plausible confounding factors linked to the correlation it's comical to say definitely more partners directly causes worse marital outcomes

  • @DistilledScience

    @DistilledScience

    Absolutely! There are so many factors that could lead BOTH to more premarital partners AND to more difficult marriages that saying that the mere act of sleeping with more people CAUSES the later marital difficulties is quite a bold claim. One that needs significant evidence 😉

    I can't help but notice that when a woman with a high body count is with a man who is inexperienced (virgin to low), she (usually) gets bored with him. Also, he doesn't get the same treatment as the players that she was with before got. Also, I keep noticing that women with more of a past tend to be more jaded. When they finally settle for the boring, stable, provider guy, they expect him to atone for the sins of the bad boys. I tend to suspect that women with a high body count who marry men with a high body count are probably more likely to be happy.

    An important topic, but I was left with the impression that the debunking was more important than the underlying facts. I would like to see more studies like this to get to the truth. There is something very significant in keeping sex for monogamous marriage. All the civilisations that have risen have had strict monogamy and have controlled the sexual behaviour of the women (J D Unwin, Sex and Culture)

    Thanks for finding that chart. I'd already found the graph you show in your video. Chart 15 showing % sexually active women as a function of non-marital sex partners has a rather obvious "cause and effect issue". This is the "cause" of an increase in on marital partners is having sex when you are not married. The denominator is "all sexually active women over 30". So, given that, the question is what number of lifetime marriage? Or number of sexual partners. Clearly, "sexually active" women over 30 who are NOT married are very likely to be accumulating non-marital sexual partners and have been since they became sexually. In contrast, women who get married and remain married mostly do not accumulate non-marital sexual partners. ( Having a non-marital sexual partner while married generally results in divorce.) So the "correlation" between "Not being in a stable marriage" and "having more nonmarital sexual partners" must be pushed toward positive for this reason. (And so "being in a stable marriage" and "having more nonmarital sexual partners" negative.) But this is not because having more sexual partners makes marriage less stable, but because being in a long term marriage reduced non-marital sexual partners! Could having more sexual partners ALSO reduce marital bliss and stability? Sure. It's not an either or thing. But the metric illustrated in this particular graph is singularly deficient in teasing that out -- because there is a very obvious casual effect of *stable marriage* reduce the accumulation of *number of non-marital sexual partners* over time.

  • @lucialiljegren

    @lucialiljegren

    Жыл бұрын

    Yep... if N is number of non-marital sexual partners and X stable marriage: P(X|N) = P(N|X) * P(X)/P(N). So if the number of non-marital partners is larger for the unmarried than for the married (because they are, ahem, unmarried) then chart 15 will heve the general appearnce it has. (I'm a bit motivated to get the data and find P(N|X) and compare to (P(N|!X).

It wastes time and distracts from the actual work that couples need to do in relationship therapy. I’m tired of having to take valuable session time to correct the messages that all of these unqualified, entitled, arrogant, and bigoted people are spewing out to millions of people who don’t understand how research works and take everything as fact as long as it fits an agenda. Grow up. Podcasts like these are causing more ruin to both relationships and individual people and I’m sick of their fans doubling down. If you want to live in ignorance cool. But don’t go harming other people with the bigoted bullshit.

    I think most men have heard horror stories of a man being a good provider, but his wife just can't seem to get over one of her exes. I will say, that one of the most toxic things a person can do in a relationship is to constantly compare their current partner with previous partners. There is the whole concept of being "Alpha Widowed" where a woman had a relationship, sometimes very brief, with another man who was more attractive, desired, and dominant than the men she can get to commit to her in the present. The most prominent example of this is Jada Pinkett and Will Smith. Their daughter, Willow, actually wrote a letter to Tupac Shakur asking him to come back so that her mother could be happy again. That's an astonishingly high level of cuckery. I think a lot of men are afraid of ending up married to a woman like that. It shoudl be noted that a woman having a low body count or even being a virgin on her wedding night does demonstrate a fair amount of discipline. If a woman is promiscuous then it's not entirely unreasonable to wonder how she will have the discipline to stay faithful to one man over decades.

  • @alicialarson3161

    😂😂😂 Tupac died in 1996, four years before Willow was born. Also this statistic is true for men not just women. I think you need to watch this again and pay closer attention.

    Nice explenagtion! With the religion part, I'd also add that women who are virgins or who have less partners are more likely to be religious, so that likely is the reason why such women are less likely to divorce and more likely to stay in a committed relationship Ultimately, I think the biggest issue that guys who insist that women be virgins though don't apply the standard to themselves ignore the fact if are being promiscuous themselves, they're going to most likely attract people who have a similar lifestyle. Since the women they want (usually traditional Christian virgins) are usually religious, they'll typically want a guy who is saving himself for marriage

    Pearl is notorious for this. I’m still trying to decide if she’s intentionally misrepresenting the data and studies she “cites” or if she just regurgitating things she’s heard other people say and takes as fact. The way she uses casual and scientific terms interchangeably tells me she hasn’t actually parsed through the data herself to make sense of it

    I know for sure us smart enough men still understood what she meant when she said unhappy marriages, we definitely thought of (likely to get divorced) he took everything literal with the happiness which is good, but that jus helps men to makes us more aware of women with high body counts, which is what I came to watch

    @@beianimeyah24 you don’t get to claim to be the side of “facts over feelings” if your facts aren’t right. We’re not here for emotional pats on the back. @@bigboma well I get to claim, that I’m on the side that is more likely correct than siding with those foolish women who come on the podcast, Pearl is more likely to be be closer to the the correct answer maybe not accurately but more than the women she goes up against, this guy jus shows how close she is to the accurate answer, so in that saying, are you gonna you vouch for someone who’s more likely to be right or more likely to be wrong? That’s if you were watching pearls original video and taking a side?

    @@beianimeyah24 this is middle school level critical thinking. so you’re okay with using the same logic and the same tactics as the women you criticize? That’s on you. I’d that rather be factually correct and prove it, then just have an opinion because it makes me feel good. I don’t have to choose who’s “more than likely to be right” when I can just be right. Pearl chose a conclusion you agree with but supported it with misrepresented, non peer reviewed information. Which means she didn’t actually prove anything. And he dismantles it in this video. How about do the intellectual leg work And support your opinions and conclusions with data that actually backs up how you feel?

    Another factor could be that men don't want to date hoes. While women don't really care about body count. So women tend to lie about their body count and eitherway that becomes an issue. So it might have nothing to do with "pair bonding", but more with what people desire in a partner. Also, you just debunked every social study out there.

    I have a question. Why do people still have sex? Sex is very gross, nasty, messy, and disgusting! I don't see how sex is a good thing. Why don't humans just remove sex from this world? Women can still get pregnant without sex (there's a lot of ways women can get pregnant without sex including artificial insemination). Sex does cause a lot of problems, so the world might be a much better place without it.
