Does EGS ACTUALLY Compare? EGS vs. CGC

Ойын-сауық

EGS comic grading boast fast turn around times and a nice clear case. But how well does it stack up EGS Vs CGC Vs CBCS? I want to take an in depth comprehensive look at the EGS labels, cases and the overall comic grading.
Are they fair, accurate applying grades to comics? Do they really hold up against a comparison with the two main players in the collecting space?

    Pretty good turn around times? I sent 10 books into EGS back in mid December and was told they would be back by late March/Early April. It's the end of April and I haven't heard a single word on what the hold-ups is and I'm starting to get pretty P.O.'d. They just lost any future business from me

    That's unfortunate, what tier did you send them under? Mine were spot on under the 2nd tier speed

    @@ComicsRediscovered Everything was sent in under their Choice Modern tier. I was told when the order was invoiced back in December the books would be returned around late March to early April. I actually contacted EGS back in February to check on the progress and was told it they were still on schedule to be returned then. Watching your vid and seeing some of the quality issues are pretty concerning...

    Here is a bit of an update as to why the books I submitted have taken over 146 days under the Choice Modern tier when the EGS website says turnaround time is 60-80 days: Thanks for the question, Unfortunately we ran into a problem with the first shipment of our new cases and had to discard about half of the original order we received. Because of this we had to (of course) fix the problem. It took longer than expected to get it fixed than we anticipated. Because of this we now have a massive backlog of orders that just need to be slabbed and shipped out. The good news is we have the problem fixed and a new batch of freshly made EGS Cases are now on the way. We expect them to be in house this week. As soon as they get here we will be slabbing and shipping a Whole lot of orders including yours. I would figure 2 weeks just to be safe for your order to be shipping out. We thank You for your patience and understanding and we value you as an EGS Customer! Anthony Trombetta President Expert Grading Service, LLC

    Finally got my books back today after 175+ days. And it was a huge disappointment. The books are warped from the encapsulation plastic being cut too long, which results in the book being warped. The labels are also printed on regular laser printer paper which results in the print bleeding into the paper. So the resolution becomes somewhat blurred. Never again

    I just sent a book to EGS; pretty excited. I think this was a fair review otherwise. They'll get their case fixes and will be a top contender. Looking forward to sending them .ore books and to more of your videos.

    So my thoughts on this is that if I'm not going to recoup or gain on my investment by sending in to EGS, and the only reason would just be display purposes. Why wouldn't I just go with a Gator Guard that is about 10.00 dollars cheaper per case, 26.25 per case when you order a 4 pack and 24.00 a case when you order a 6 pack. In my opinion Gator Guard cases are more robust, heavier, and just seem better quality than a CBCS or CGC case. And I understand you're not getting a graded book with a Gator Guard but like you said you're not getting the ROI or the archival gains like you would from CGC or CBCS. So don't get me wrong I'm not trying to slight or discredit EGS, I think its great that someone is trying to compete with the big two, and I hope that Tony can continue to improve on his product and that the grading stays consistent so that we can have another legitimate third party grading service. Thanks for the really good in-depth review on EGS, and sorry for the longwinded question/post. Regards, Cowboy Comics.

    Thanks for the thoughtful comment. They're in a weird spot right now, if they can keep moving ahead while maintaining their quality I think they have a spot, however you're right they do not currently hold any regard for someone looking to flip their book as a graded copy in one of these slabs. I hope I earned a subscribe from you and you continue to follow along ! :D

    Isn't the external plastic sitting snugly against the internal plastic what causes the Newton rings for CGC?

  • @ComicsRediscovered

    @ComicsRediscovered

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes I believe that is partially the reason for Newton rings, but it also prevents the book from banging around in the case. Cbcs also has it firm to the case and no rings

  • @pbales8951

    @pbales8951

    The CGC newton rings are caused by two different types of plastic with different refractive indexes coming into contact. I'm not positive, but I think the CBCS case and sleeve are made of the same type of plastic--so, the newton rings don't happen when the case contacts the inner well.

    someone needs to try getting Raw grading from EGS then send those in to CGS and see what you get. would be interesting except we can't assume CGS is consistent.

    I think you're being a little bit unfair to EGS I didn't see you bending a cgc case and just because something is not color coded to the way cgc trained you doesn't mean it's unprofessional you always have two eyes that you can read the label I think your whole videos a bit wonky

  • @ComicsRediscovered

    @ComicsRediscovered

    Thanks for the feedback, however I did bend cgc, cbcs and pgx cases in a previous video. My opinion on egs is that the case is actually pretty good as I mentioned. As for the colour the community has accepted those colour codings not just from cgc but across the board. That sort of coding system has a value in itself as a system for archiving. I also mentioned it's ok to like the egs colouring labels for display. Thanks for watching and commenting

    EGS isn't professional so why pretend? You get EGS because you want a cheap way to pretend you are actually getting your book graded.

  • @ComicsRediscovered

    I disagree. EGS is making lots of strides, they handle themselves professionally though their product isn't quite yet top tier. Some modifications and improvements go a long way, however investing in high training to maintain standards in the long run will be key for them if they can survive with the big boys. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    @Larry Cimarelli What makes EGS not professional? It seems they have a standard when it comes to grading and so far seem to be holding to that standard. From what I've seen coming out of CGC in the last 6 months, there seems to be more of a quota and lottery system than a standard of grading with books varying wildly, some as much as 4 grades in difference, with resubmissions. If a book is graded at 9.2 there's no way it should receive a 9.8 on a resubmit unless it was all pressable defects (which was not the case) that were taken care of. With that, I would be more apt to call CGC unprofessional. So what is it that makes EGS not professional in your opinion?

    @@samuelcatoe1927 The CEO is doing the grading, cheap cases, choose your own color label, missed restoration, etc. CGC is doing 1000s of books and day, EGS is doing a dozen a day and you are trying to compare EGS to CGC. Send your $10000 comic to EGS and try to sell it. If you sell it anywhere near the current FMV, I'll take it all back. I'll be waiting.

    @Larry Cimarelli personally I don't own any $10,000 books, and the few high dollar books that I do have are PC books that will likely only be sold by my heirs. Having said that, I did send one of my high dollar books to EGS for grading. I did it because I want to see if they're honest with their grades and how they line up with my own grading. I won't be submitting my own collection to CGC except for those that are already slabbed and being signed or for a signing event. I've found CGC to be too inconsistent as of late and have serious concerns over their professionalism regarding their practices, quality control, and grading.

    @@samuelcatoe1927 What a bunch of BS. You are waiting to sell your imaginary book in the far flung future because you know you would never get anywhere near FMV, which would prove my point. I dare you to find any common keys on any major comic seller marketplace where EGS is selling near FMV.
