The sheer fact that Caraxes can make sharp turns and is lean like a snake makes the difference. It's like an anaconda vs an alligator.

Nah, Vhagar's size meant she had little issue flying in the storm. Caraxes and the likes of Meleys would have an easier time than Arrax but, surprisingly, Vhagar has the advantage if we go by the Lore.

@@thalmoragent9344 this is completely false !! Vhaegar had ZERO issue flying in the storm this is evident in the boom. Vermax was smaller and therefore struggle in the heavy winds. However had he been more skilled in flight he could have easily out maneuvered Vhaegar as his size would have made it difficult to swiftly turn etc. this is evident in the books. I read them all

With adult dragons it definitely comes down to strategy. Both Daemon and Meleys are fierce experienced riders that would definitely be able to take on Vhagar one on one with the right plan. Aemond on the other hand relies too much on Vhagar's size to think about tactics which will lead to his downfall

One dragon is literally the biggest and the oldest dragon that the Greens possess while the other is in the prime of his life and has a deep bond with its rider but also smaller. yet size doesn’t guarantee you’ll win every time. If anyone read the books you’ll know what happened when you have an ancient yet power creature go up against a dragon who can punch above his own weight

Dragons like Melys and Caraxes if they worked together and actually went to kings landing they would’ve defeated Vhagar easily. Melys was kinda working on a bit of a disadvantage due to sunfyre being there. I won’t spoil stuff from books between Vhagar and Caraxes battle.

Just like in the fighting pit scene where Daario Naharis was talking about speed winning against strength. Sure it's never a 100% win, but if the smaller target uses their speed right and tires out the bigger opponent it'll create more openings for attacks. Even Bronn & Prince Oberyn knew this on the topic of fighting the Mountain, but of course the downside to a speed vs strength fight is that if the smaller guy makes even one wrong step they're dead. So ultimately, if you've got the speed to outmaneuver a bigger opponent, it mostly won't matter if you don't got the brains to use it right

Meaning Sunfyre was hatched after Syrax, and Viserys's ascension. Hence Tessarion and Sunfyre are called as Baby Dragons....

It definitely does Vhagar is hundreds of years old when she fights Daemon she was knocking on deaths door anyways and still came out in a draw vs a more experienced duo. It’s also why Balerion is the most legendary of all the dragons. He was the biggest and most vicious.

Well, for starters a larger dragon is going to be less mobile and agile. It will need more resources to support is size. And at the certain size it will either no longer be able to obtain enough food to support itself and it will starve. Or it will grow so large it can not longer fly or even stand. So size it not necessarily everything.

@@sliferskydragon9798 Caraxes had Daemon - and all the battle experience that came with him - as his rider. Vhagar had Aemond - who was a 17 year old boy with only one eye - as his rider. Vhagar has explosive power from her size but that same size makes her much less nimble compared to Caraxes. They were practically on equal footing. It came down to how the riders used them. And both riders couldnt defeat the other wiithout getting themself killed in the process.

Vhagar is not only big but also quite old.At this point she is a grandma dragon.caraxes is young and is agile which will definitely give an edge while fighting.

vhagar is so majestic

In the Inheritance book series, there's a dragon named Shruikan who's been forcibly grown to gigantic properstions by King Galabtorix, he's so massive there's a part where a character hears his steps from miles away. But when it came to Shruikan to battle two smaller dragons, he was too slow & couldn't get at them. Same goes for one of the largest fantasy dragons, Ancalagon the Black from LOTR, so huge he crushed an entire mountain. There's a lesson here, bigger dragons do not mean better - now a dragon like Smaug is peak perfection, not too large & not too small. Having said that, a larger dragon would breath greater fire, so they're akin to planes = big plans carry big bombs but are slow, small planes carry little guns but are fast.

Very different. Shruikan fought those dragons in an enclosed area and could barely move properly. Size-wise Shruikan is so far above any other dragon in that and this franchise that it's not even fair. Guy is basically a kaiju.

I think Caraxes’ shape especially gives him an advantage against Vhaegar. Given how large and slow she is with a good rider our boy can slither around her and constrict her like a snake. If done well such a manoeuvre it could even protect him against being bitten in turn. As she said wouldn’t be able to turn her neck like he does. He could go for the throat and then disentangle as they start falling.

Of course it matters. We have 5 fights to show us where it matters and 6 overall. Balerion vs quicksilver, smaller dragon dies. Meleys vs sunfyre, smaller dragon never recovers fully. Sunfyre vs moondancer, smaller dragon dies. Sunfyre vs greyghost, smaller dragon dies. Vermithor vs seasmoke, smaller dragon dies. Vhagar vs arrax, smaller dragon dies.

Caraxes is basically the smaug, he been in the business for quite a time now

Size is one thing but I suspect what really makes both dragons such powerhouses is their extensive war experience.

In the novel caraxes kills vhagar while daemond drives his sword through Aemonds one good eye all while they’re crashing into a lake and they all parish.

By this point, Vhagar should be just barely smaller than Balerion, if not the same size.

There is also the fact that they were playmates, each of them knew their moves pretty well...

I think of this fight a little bit like Oberyn vs The Mountain. The mountain will destroy you in one attack but they have to catch you and get tired faster

You better believe all those flights Damon took with his then wife both him and caraxes were sizing up vhagar

I wish they would show more of the dragons to be honest

Like everything else, it depends. Think what Bronn said about The Mountain. I'd rather not try to fight with just speed against a one-hitter, not without significant experience, and that's the thing, generally speaking, the bigger the dragon, the more experienced the dragon. The smaller, the younger, the less experienced. Edit: I'd say the only dragons with a chance against Vhagar 1v1 are Vermithor, Meleys, The Cannibal and possibly Caraxes (who's shape isn't helpful. If Vhagar gets her teeth on that midsection, it's over immediately). Most of them would probably take quite a bit of damage in the process, but if any dragons still alive have a chance, it's them.

If Daemond’s daughter was more like her mom, Vhaegar would be hers. Laena been asking about her since she was little and went out and found her. I’m mad she’s not on team black but as much as we love to hate Aemond, he looks good on Vhaegar. Lol.

There's no guarantee that Vhagar would've accepted her just because she the daughter of her last rider

Ofc dragon size matter, Vhagar got killed is likely due to her age. she is bigger but she is very old, her physical condition is deteriorating.

Yes, Size obviously matters since it directly related to Strength and Endurance, but Speed, Agility, Stamina, Experience, Technique, Mentality also matter. Caraxes is much smaller, but he is also much more agile, faster and more vicious, plus his rider is better.

Caraxes did crawl out of the gods eye so he’s the winner for me

Now my fav’s are Cyrax, Melays and Vermithor 😍 but Vhagar is also so fascinating 🥰 I want to see a beautiful complete blue dragon with golden wings, golden horns and also golden eyes 😍🦋💙

Size matters most when we think about one dragon vs another.Since they are fireproof,the only way they can hurt eachother is by bite or claws!

They aren’t fireproof. Their eyes can be burned. And even though their skin is highly resistant to fire, it isn’t fire proof.

Well in hindsight, now that S2 E4 has been released, yes, yes dragon size does matter. lol

hornless. but in books She does have horns at this age.

Just remember the fight between Mountain and Oberyn Martell .
