Does Disney's Brawn GP documentary do justice to an F1 fairytale?

The double diffuser helped Brawn score a big points lead before the other teams caught up. I think there were three teams who had the double diffuser from the start of the season with Williams and maybe Toyota being the others. I remember Benson's first season in F1 with Williams. At Spa he told the team one of the track brake markers was in the wrong place. When checked he was proven to be correct. Edited: Big not bit points lead

@@simonkevnorris i think what makes the brawn story even cooler is the fact that williams and toyota did also start the season with the double diffuser. it makes it less that "oh they were the ones who found this loophole and ran away with it before ppl could catch up" and more of a prefect story story, the fact that the "2009 honda" had that aero advantage and they managed to luck into the mercedes engine fitting near perfectly into the chassis, then having 2 brilliant drivers in jenson and rubens

You might want to watch before criticizing. Keanu Reeves has been following and attending races for years, he’s very much a speed freak - is a true (motorcycle) gear head too. Remember, not everyone has been following formula one for decades, so the storytellers are beholden to keep things easier for the new fan to digest. Since Martin Brundle’s first grasp of the microphone, he’s always had a careful way of describing the goings on of the sport with both the avid and novice viewer in mind. Generosity’s not something to be ashamed of, and it’s not a bad thing to share “your” sport with others.

My favorite was actually a bit from Bernie to explain the difference in Jenson and Barrichello's results. It's a single line, "Who told you they were the same car?". He then goes on to explain why Rubens had a worse car, Brawn didn't have the money to upkeep two cars in the same condition. But to me it was heartbreaking. He spent the majority of his career in F1 playing second to Schumacher, Ferrari was public about who they gave their resources to and who they wanted to win. As Ferrari made changes throughout a season Michael always got the more developed car on track first, they ordered Ruben to let Michael pass when he did somehow get ahead. They ordered him to make stops so he could defend Michael's position or slow the lead so Schumacher could catch up. He spent his career never being allowed to truly race. Then he signs with Brawn and the only legitimate shot of his career is destroyed by this. His career to me is just sad. Afterwards he'd sign to Williams and he'd spend his final years in F1 putting a backmarker car in the middle of the pack. And somehow, some way, in his final year of F1 he'd put the worst car on the field at one podium finish. I'm not a fan of his but I have always felt sorry for him. He deserved better than the career he got. His career was sacrificed so Michael Schumacher could have his.

@@SD-mi2vc No, it wasn't, and Brawn said that himself plenty of times in interviews, people just seem to ignore it. The car was more or less finished by the time he took over because Honda abandoned the 2008 season very early on and focused on making the best possible car for 2009 with Alex Wurz as development driver. Honda then left F1 because of the financial crisis and Brawn saved the team.

I’d venture to say that Keanu has more Motorsport experience, not necessarily knowledge, than most F1 fans. And I’d venture to say he has more Motorsport pedigree than these arm chair pundits. The guy has raced before, he is a rider, and manufactures his own Motorcycles (Arch Motorcycles) but sure….

Can’t wait to watch this. This was most certainly the most poignant stories of F1 history. Button who was a good driver but certainly not the best , found himself in this rocket ship , right place right time. I was delighted he won that championship, but even he would say he got lucky that year. Id button around the same standard as Sainz is today and both have similar careers and driving styles.

He deserved the opportunity to have a contending car after having his break out year in 2004 and then years of underperforming cars with Honda (exception being Hungary 2006). I disagree that Button was lucky though.

@@AtlanticwayExplorer could say the same with any driver that landed into a championship winning car. Just need to look at Villeneuve and Hamilton for examples of that. Agree about 2000 but as I said from 2004, he showed what he could do. Massively helped BAR as they were at the time get 2nd in the constructors. Not to mention he was beating his teammates. And of course that fantastic drive in Hungary for his first win when he started 14th. Brawn had 2 cars so Button still had to go out there and perform at the level required to win, especially when the car wasn't as good after Turkey

just finished watching the whole series. It was generally good but I found the presentation style a bit jarring. They didn't dwell on any of the interviewees for very long so you end up with a series of short responses rather than a real conversation. I'm guessing this style is targeting US audiences, and meant to bring more US fans into the sport.
