He is not talking about your college placements ... he is talking in general in the outer world cgpa do not matter ... But if you are in a decent College where good companies are comming for placements then make sure your cgpa is good ... But in general it doesn't matter as you can apply to the same company by your self also where it won't matter

Sir if I am a competitive programmer (5 star on Codechef, BTech 2nd Year (Computer Scince)) and a WEB DEVELOPER (ReactJS) but have currently 6+ CGPA, is there any problem as I can't see my college giving me enough grades that I can make it above 7.5 CGPA... Be "good" but don't shoot yourself in the foot from the start by ruining your CGPA. You could always learn tech, but once you are out of college that CGPA stays with you. You don't know the future, in case you ever want to do MBA or Masters in future then you will be cursing yourself. If you can't manage then don't go overboard with college, if you can't get 9.7 then at least try to maintain a 8.5

Yes you are eligible Google and Amazon they do not see your cgpa as well as class 10,12 marks but Microsoft see your cgpa of btech that is 7.5 but it also does not see your class 10,12 marks. But some companies like tcs, Infosys see your class 10,12 result
