I think the people who feel the need to always assign meanings to art do so in order to 'relate' to it, to make it appeal to them personally. While I see nothing wrong with that, sometimes it's okay to just like something purely for superficial reasons (maybe the colours are pretty, the subject is interesting etc.). As for me I mostly just draw stuff because I wanna, though occasionally I like to throw in some metaphors/symbolism for fun or when I'm in my feelings lol. For your paintings, I'll put on my 'art snob' hat and say that they are representations of dissociation/loss of control. The way the faces are seperate from the body yet impaled by the weapons show a desperate need for order even when things are unravelling.

Right. Sometimes I just like a piece of art (all types of art) because it's pretty or fun. And that's ok

To answer the question. Yes and no. Some art has meaning. It can be deep or shallow. Other art doesn't have any real "meaning" to it, other than the artist was-hopefully- enjoying making it. (This is why museums and all this deep philosophical stuff about random (lame) paintings at art museums can be annoying. Why doesn't it NEED to have meaning? I won't go into the ra*ist connotations of it.) But I think if a piece of art really does genuinely evoke an emotion in you and you find a meaning for it, it's ok from time to time. That's always the great thing about art. Once it's out there, the meaning of it is up to personal interpretation. (OMG! That skecth was amazing. But your art is always beautiful.

For me, art can and cannot have a meaning. What I draw most days has no meaning. I was inspired by a book or movie but no real meaning. But my tattoos do have meaning. They are art I assign meaning to.
