It also shows how bad Ohtani is at keeping his shoulder in there, too. He's stepping towards 1B when he swings. With 2 strikes he should be looking to go the other way and not trying to yank a 500 ft bomb.

A game lost because of the difference in defense. I feel sorry for Gavin Stone. Andy Pages does it sometimes. It was a big mistake in the 5th inning that cost us the game. Miguel Rojas got tagged out at 2nd in the 8th inning tho, did nothing wrong, but the two Phillies were just too good.

Taylor's mid at best, sometimes clutch, but he's been given plenty of chances and a fat check to go along. If he was better he would've won his position already. It's time to give Vargas a real chance. Get him on third where he was brought up. He has a huge upside and instead of giving him an opportunity to prove himself where he might feel comfortable, they got him in the outfield. When is he going to get a better shot than when Muncy is hurt?

@@jerrygomez3825 Vargas is dreadful though. Zero power, poor defensively. Taylor isn't getting enough opportunity to get in rhythm. The way Roberts plays guys, they don't play enough to get into that rhythm.

I grew up watching baseball in the 50s and 60s. Getting back into it again. Great players, but I can't believe how many routine plays they boot.

in 1954 one player whiffed 100+ times, lazyboyMantle, last few yrs there have been 150-160 players per season that whiff 100+ times... no one playing today is as great a hitter as Larry Berra was, that little kook hit more HRs than SO in 5 season, with the best being 12 whiffs and 28 HRs in 1950 in Old Yankers Stadium, a full size ball park not seen today.... Ohtani whiffs over 12 times a week every single week.... aloha

It's childish and bush league. You never saw that "look at me" bullshit prior to about 2010. It's even filtering down to college, HS, and LL. I saw some kid do it in the LLWS last year.

He didnt actually push it though. You can see the slide momentum pulled him off the bag and he could tell it was going to, which is why he was moving his hand to the bag even before coming off. But to answer, it would not be legal if it was a true push off.

This is why MLB chose not to highlight it. Rojas had momentum and was making a conscious effort to not come off the base, but Stott used that momentum to “push” him off.

but 2 way player with a 2.28ERA George used a bat that was 1.5 lbs heavier and never whiffed anywhere as much as that pseudo leadoff whiffer .. and George played in full size real ballparks not seen in todays game... George also outhomered every single team in MLB except the Phillies in 1920. Philly hit 64 that yr... All Kyle can do is whiff 4+ times a game... iow zero comparisons

left fielder was already on his way to pick it up. It was indeed a costly mishap, but all players make errors, some just LOOK worse than others. Reading and catching a fly ball is not as easy as it looks, and you can't catch a ball you can't see.
